  1. Thoughts go out to all in involved this... When I was younger and went to church regularly, someone walked in with an AK47. No one was injured, the weapon failed to fire multiple times....even stranger was I ran into the guy years later and we discussed that night.
  2. Rainer Arms has a good deal on a Nickel Boron bolt, almost half off. https://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=3345 I grabbed one, had been looking to get a spare BCG but decided for now a quality spare bolt will be fine. Will try to find a carrier only in the next couple of weeks but if anyone has a lead on carrier with staked key let me know.
  3. Look good from here. I have only PC 9mm so far and the dry tumble is great. You mentioned hardware cloth, I got a roll of aluminum screen for a screen door and used it.
  4. Columbia is never worth the 5 minute drive for me. I have went a few days and regretted it each time.
  5. Going to be a great game....I say Broncos. As good of a defense that Seattle has, no match for Peyton.
  6. I have been debating 6.5, 6.8 and 300bo upper as my next build and pretty much decided the 6.8 is the best choice for me (shooting and deer hunting, falls between my .223 and 30-06). Happened to see PSA's upper sale today and they have a 20" 6.8SPCII rifle length upper on sale. It is a 1:11 twist. I haven't researched the barrel lengths and twist for this caliber so wanted to ask if this seems like a decent barrel for this caliber? I am thinking about snatching it and then can get a BCG later on...   http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/psa-20-6-8-spcii-1-11-rifle-length-heavy-profile-upper.html
  7. Are you looking to buy a complete rifle? A better option IMO would be to buy a complete lower and then a complete upper. You can possibly get a bit better quality without spending as much money this way. An example would be buy a complete lower with stock from PSA - can be found under $200 often. And then shop PSA or other places for a complete upper you like in the $400-$600 range. When the two arrive, you just push two pins through to connect the halves. If you want to have a complete rifle with full manufacturer warranty, then by all means get a complete rifle such as a S&W M&P Sport, DPMS, etc.

    MLK day

I think my employer is racist because I had to work today. I had no idea what day it was either until I got home and mail/trash hadn't ran.
  9. Yeah that is the one, I have the 2013 but wanted to grab the 2014 too. I looked at one Kroger the other day and they didn't have it. Will try the one in town. Thanks!
  10. Anyone have or seen the 2014 Hodgdon reloading manual? I've looked for it at a couple of places locally with no luck. Thinking about ordering it from Graf and Sons unless someone knows of a store carrying it between Columbia and Brentwood area.

    Guns Stolen

That sucks, good luck recovering everything!
  12. I got to say hi to Mike. Was nice meeting you. And Ruger, thank you for that post on the ammo cans. If you hadn't posted that I probably would have missed then since I was planning to hit David's booth and leave.
  13. Got a few supplies from David, wish I had the extra cash and could have gotten several pounds of Varget but I will make do for now. Picked up a few of those ammo cans too. Pretty good deal on them.
  14. I'm on the way now. Was in Nash and stopped at AH buy he was closed. Figured might as well drive the extra 30 miles to get some decently priced primers from David at the show.
  15. I read an article a few months back and I think the average break even point (vs store bought target rounds) was around 2k 9mm reloads. Average point, varies with how expensive you went up front and which caliber or additional calibers you load. When I bought my equipment, I estimated break even would be 1 year, but I ended up breaking even in about 8 months. This in large part was due to reloading my 30-06 as well as pistols.
  16. I would love to go...one of these days.....
  17. I actually placed my first order with them in a year over the weekend. I almost cancelled it though because of the BS shipping charges. I had several small items in my cart (bore brushes, AR springs, etc), shipping was under $5. I added one additional small item and shipping jumped to $12. I almost cancelled the entire order but decided to buy original items and removed the last item. I am ordering it somewhere else or will grab at a local store as it was not at all worth an extra $7 to ship. As for the OP experience, I find it hard to believe the realtime order fulfilment first is their policy. I think you just talked to the wrong customer service rep.
  18. Just because. It was recommended to me, figured would use it and not worry about the rings lining up.
  19. Went and shot the rifle today. Had an issue at first, bolt stripped a round from the mag, squeezed the trigger and boom. Squeezed the trigger again, click. Cleared the weapon and tried again, same result - first round fired and 2nd went click. Light primer strikes were showing. Tried some different ammo with the same result, so my buddy said he would stand there and watch the action cycle to see if he could spot anything. This time noticed that the bolt was not fully closing and when I hit the trigger it moved just a hair. Tried again and used the forward assist but it did not fully seat the bolt. Stripped the weapon, and started inspecting the bolt. The bolt head was stiff and required some force to move - after discussing we realized it was due to the one piece gas ring I installed. Obviously the gas ring was slightly large or the bolt chamber was a hair tight. I ended up firing 50 rounds with the mag only loaded with one round (bolt locked on empty mag, eject, load one round, repeat). The gas ring finally wore in after those 50 rounds (may have been sooner but I didn't test it until 50) and I was able to shoot full mags. Talked with a couple of friends and they had never had an issue with the one pice gas ring being tight and causing an issue so I would guess it was the bolt being tight. I was on paper from the begining, so shooting for groups. The below pics are two groups fired using Sierra 55 grain softpoints over Varget powder, but I had a similar size group with the Lake City. I still need to adjust my scope as it is shooting high and a bit left but will do that next range trip when I begin load development. I am very pleased with the initial grouping. For a $400 upper I don't know anymore could be expected, but I am going to try and tailor some loads to get a bit tighter groups. Also, in case anyone was interested in the PTAC bolt quality, here is a pic of the BCG. It appears to be properly staked (based on my little research and comparing pictures) which I know is a big concern with some of the lower end brands.
  20. I have a PTAC upper, see my thread in the show and tell page. Going to shoot it tomorrow and see how it does. The finish could be better but for a cheap range rifle I am happy as long as it shoots.
  21. Thank you...now just trying to make it to 1 pm Saturday when the range opens to see how it will shoot. I have 60 rounds of Lake City ammo to break it in and then another 100 factory and my reloads. Should break it in and then I can begin load development.
  22. Not counting the scope, I have exactly $600 into this build. Figured that isn't too bad for a range rifle that may also be used for some hunting. Lower - Palmetto State Armory blem lower (no blem found). PSA lower parts kit. Magpul grip and MOE stock. This has a surprisingly good feeling trigger on it for a factory trigger (based on my experience with a few factory ARs) I have not shot it yet, just tested trigger by holding the hammer and squeezing trigger to release. Upper is a PTAC 16 inch carbine length with 1:9 twist. I wanted a 1:7 but was not available when I ordered this. I really struggled with making a decision to order this, I wanted a bit better quality but was trying to stay on a strict budget so figured for the price and my intended use it should be fine. As long as it shoots decent I will be completely happy. The finish is not the best on this upper in places but it is going to get marked up anyways so no big deal to me. The fit was very good, did not need to use a wedge. Upper has a Midwest Industries 12 inch free floathandguard http://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=450 I really like the slim feel and customization options of this handguard. It came with three 3" rail sections with one having a QD swivel mount. I mounted this on the bottom of the handguard as far front as possible so it could also function as a handstop. I have an Impact Weapon Components sling adapter for the MOE stock on the way. Still need to decide on which sling I want, am thinking a MagPul MS3. Installed a one piece gas ring and KNS firing pin retainer. I have a Badger Ordnance tactical latch to install if I can find my really small roll pin punch. That is a Vortex Crossfire II 4-12x44 with BDC mounted on a Primary Arms one piece mount. Will find out Saturday how it shoots and post back results.
  23. M'Boro show is one of the best in Middle TN. And Hendersonville. I don't bother with Franklin or Nashville typically, although I did go to the last Nashville show just for something to do.
  24. Good game, both sides made some mistakes and missed out on some big opportunities. Auburn had the game won at halftime but FSU pulled together and made the 2nd half a game. I really didn't expect them to pull it off, but congrats to FSU! Auburn had some miracles this year but couldn't get it this time. Now I'm looking forward to next year and the new playoff system.
  25. Going to be a great game tonight. I think Auburn has the edge for playing in the SEC.
