  1. For the comment the gun store should have cleaned the weapon if it was fired, yes but my experience is most stores don't. At least one LGS in Columbia sells firearms caked in carbon and grime quite often. They don't bother cleaning used firearms before reselling them.
  2. Upper arrived today, have to wait until Sunday to shoot it though. Finish on the upper and hand guards is a bit scuffed in a couple spots but doesn't bother me. Have to get some 55gr SP and 69gr Nosler CC loaded up for testing, looks like all I have loaded is 55gr FMJ.
  3. http://www.jsesurplus.com/JSE18WilsonArms223Wylde1x8StainlessBULLw/MidVentedFloat1RGB.aspx   This is the upper I went with. 18" Wilson Arms stainless bull barrel in .223 wylde, with free floated handguard. Should be very accurate.
  4. I have narrowed it down to a couple of options right now - all from JSE with 18" WIlson Arms barrels. Never had a stainless rifle barrel before, but I know that that a free float barrel is the best way to go. To get a stainless, free floated barrel price jumps up about $100 more than the stainless with standard HG I linked above - above what I was wanting to spend.    I know I could buy the stainless above and add a FF handguard later on, but a quick search shows most mid-length HG are around $100++ anyways. I will think it over today and then order one of them - read a lot of good things about Wilson Arms barrels since yesterday so I am sticking with one of them.
  5. Happy Fathers Day to all of you! I only have one (and that is enough for me!) but being a dad is great. We are heading out to the air show in a while.
  6. Something like this?  http://www.jsesurplus.com/JSE18WilsonArms1x8223WyldeSS1RGBTargetCrownedCompleteUpper.aspx It is a 223 Wylde 1:8 twist.
  7. Anyone else? Any ideas on another upper I should be considering? I suppose I could go with a 16" mid length but I am thinking an 18" will be slightly more accurate... I suppose a BCM 16" mid length would probably about be as accurate as the JSE 18" with Wilson barrel? http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-Standard-16-Mid-Length-Upper-Centurion-COSMO-p/bcm-urg-mid-16-c4-12-cos.htm
  8. I know the 1:8 will easily stabilize 69gr bullets and should even work well for 75-77gr. But really 55 to 69gr will be the majority of what I shoot. I don't think the 2 inches will make a huge difference at the ranges I will shoot (about 300 yards max). This upper will be for punching tiny holes in paper and deer hunting since will be able to use heavier bullets. My current 16" 1:9 will be for general plinking and home defense.
  9. I am buying a new complete upper as a gift to myself. Want something more accurate than my current 1:9 16" barrel.   I have found a couple of options and want to get some TGO opinions please. This upper will go on my current PSA lower with Magpul stock - maybe for 4th of July sale will grab another lower kit.   1. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/barreled-upper-assemblies/psa-chf-20-5-56mm-1-7-rifle-length-a2-profile-w-bcg-charging-handle.html 20" rifle length, CHF barrel made by FN. I do not need the BCG and CH but it is included. Found a guy on another forum selling the exact same upper kit, brand new and I could get it even cheaper.   2. http://www.jsesurplus.com/JSE18WilsonArms1x85.56MolyTargetCrownedwithFrontSightBaseComp.aspx This has a 18" barrel made by Wilson Arms. 1:8 twist instead of the 1:7, also has the BCG and CH.   I researched and verified that I could shoot the rifle length upper with no issues using my carbine buffer (I have standard, heavy and H2 buffers to switch if the installed H2 ends up being too heavy).  know the CHF FN barrels are highly rated, but a few minutes on Google are turning up good reviews of the Wilson Arms barrels. Price between the two is not a concern - I just want to know which barrel should be better suited for accuracy.
  10. Thoughts are going out David.
  11. I do not own a TRP, but tested one at the LGS range. Gritty trigger but very accurate. The checkering could be used as a rasp. All in all, to me was not worth the price. I liked the RO but the adjustable sight is an issue if considering for a carry weapon.
  12. I won 4 tickets to the show so guess I am going up Sunday. Was going to find a place to park and not go onto the airport grounds, but with free tickets I might as well use them.
  13. Sweet! I want one.
  14. Smyrna airport. Guess I left that out...
  15.   ^^^ That is part of the reason I want to find a place to park and not pay to get onto the airport grounds. If my daughter gets too cranky and my wife wants to leave, I don't want to be out the admission fees and not be able to see the entire show.
  16. The Blue Angels will be there this year, planning on going Sunday. Anyone else going? If so, are you buying tickets to get onto the airport grounds or is there a good spot to park and watch for free? Been a couple of years, but I remember the park across the road was blocked off so is there anywhere else close that we could park and have a good view of the planes?
  17. I have one of these. Works well for me. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/421353/midwayusa-two-point-tactical-rifle-sling-nylon-black?cm_vc=ProductFinding
  18. We went to St. Louis for our honeymoon back in November. The zoo was amazing, worth paying for but it is free. The city museum was great, wish I was younger/smaller so could have ran around it more - the 10 story slide is worth the climb (or take the elevator to the roof). If you got to Union Station, stop at the fudge shop (I think that is the name actually) - amazing fudge.
  19.   Of course not. That is too much work.
  20. Skipping this one. I have too much stuff to do this weekend.
  21. Trying to free the plunger with a cleaner, dental pick, small screwdriver, and smacking the bottom have not worked. It is jammed and I cannot pry it free.   I am assuming this stuck firing pin block is the root cause of the slam fires - the firing pin moves freely with the plunger stuck so the pin could have moved and struck the primer on the 2 rounds. May have been a combination of a high primer or something else, but regardless this stuck plunger is a problem that needs fixed.   I am calling Para in the morning to setup the return and get this fully checked out and repaired under warranty. Again, thanks to everyone who assisted in this thread. I will update with details on what Para says when the warranty work is processed and the pistol returned.
  22. Tried that with no luck. I am going to soak it for a bit and then try to knock it free tomorrow night. If that fails I will call Para on Thursday. Thanks to everyone who has participated and helped get to this point in finding/resolving the issue!
  23. The firing pin is out, it falls right out, so the plunger is not affecting it.   Dolomite, I think you may be on the right track with someone took the slide apart and lost the spring (or maybe it is just jammed in there). I bought this new at a local shop with a good reputation but who knows what they checked/did. Yesterday/today is as detailed as I have ever gone with a 1911, certainly a good learning experience.   It is a sweet shooting pistol (for the little time I have had it), but think my best bet may be to use the warranty and get it fully checked out. Hopefully any changes/repairs do not negatively affect it...
  24.   Yep, I am slowly figuring this out. The plunger is stuck in the up (depressed) position, and moving the extractor around is not releasing it. Just read a couple of other posts online, am going to try and soak some break free or similar into the firing pin channel and plunger. If that doesn't work I am thinking I will contact Para and send it in for warranty repair, let them check everything.
  25. Ok, found a post online that says this is a series 80 and that the plunger is stuck. Pulling back on the extractor should release it - however in my case that is not happening and I cannot get the extractor to release and come out of the slide. Looks like we may be close to figuring this out.
