  1. Picked up my set from HD today. A lot nicer than the HL set I have.
  2. When I bought the 24 gun safe, my wife actually told me to go with a larger safe. I wanted a larger safe, but had the same dilemma as you with where to place it. I did not want it in my garage, too visible from the road and already too much stuff out there. The only other option was in my office, which seemed too visible to guests. The 24 gun was just the right size to fit in my closet where I wanted it.   Next house, ideally I have this safe in an accessible to me location like my bedroom closet. And a larger safe in my designated area - basement or spare room depending on what we find. Whatever place we get I plan to move all of my reloading stuff inside as well.   My neighbor has two large (48 + gun) safes in his garage. They are both bolted all the way through the concrete floor and weigh about one ton each according to him, fully loaded. He has a couple dehumidifiers running constantly in the garage plus rods and desiccant packs in the safes and no rust issues.
  3. Glad you got one you like. I am ready to move to a bigger house and get a bigger safe (actually get a second, larger safe). The one I bought last year that was "going to be large enough for several years" ran out of space in about 6 months   :)   I can squeeze a couple more rifles in there but a bit tight and have to be mindful to avoid scratches.
  4.   I am ordering a pair of these Peltor's. Reviews on Home Depot and Amazon are really good, seem to be rated higher than the HLs. I will try them out when I get a chance and let you know, I only need one pair of electronic muffs as have a few pairs of normal hearing protection and my wife prefers them anyways.
  5. How do these compare to the Howard Leight impact sport set? Looks like they are both rated for 22 decibel reduction. I honestly am not too happy with the HL set I own, they amplify well but do not seem to reduce any shooting noise. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001T7QJ9O/ref=redir_mdp_mobile?pc_redir=T1
  6. Good luck!! I'm stuck at home having to work this morning. Have a cutover scheduled today and the other person only wanted to help in the morning so he could watch college football..... So I took the hit and said morning would be fine, this project has been delayed for months and I want it over.
  7. I did some reading on this last year when I got my new safe. (Edited, see update below). So your safe, even though heavy, is spread across a larger area and falls under the floor load. What do you mean by floating floor? Just hardwood that is not secured or is there a gap with the floor floating over joists? If over joists you may be able to go under and brace it up. Edit - scratch that first paragraph. Looks like residental is 40psf (pounds per square foot). http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/index.php/t-139375.html
  8. Cheapest place? Find someone who.lives near Sedalia MO and have them pick you up several pounds of factory seconds. I found a guy on a Facebook reloading group a few months ago and bought 20 pounds of .224 bullets.
  9. I wish. But I have to take credit for missing the shot. I didn't pay attention when I loaded up this morning. I had 2 magazines in my pouch, and instead of grabbing the 65gr Sierra Gamekings I grabbed the mag with 64gr Nosler Bonded Solid Base. These bullets shoot high left at 100 yards with my rifle- intended to use them in my carbine when I hunt the ridge line as they shoot dead on with my carbine. I checked after missing the coyote. So I knew to adjust when shot the doe. I have taken 2 deer now with an AR in 5.56. I am not sure that I will take another, plan to switch back to my 30-06 for rest of this season. The AR is fun to shoot and easier to handle in the stand. But both deer I have shot left no blood. Both fell within sight so trailing these two was not a concern. But what if the next one runs? Both bullets expanded well (based on the damage, not recovered) and passed through the animal. But no blood trail. I don't want to take any chances on losing one so plan to finish out the season with the 30-06 and next year will have my 6.8 finished and hunt with it.
  10. The grip on this is a Miad. I have a K2 on my carbine. Thanks for the compliments on the rail. I always liked the look of it so planned to use this rail for a few months. It feels great too, IMO.
  11. I ended up with a yearling doe. Was two of them, I wanted both but couldn't get the shot at the second one.
  12. ID is 1.35". I knew the DI projector muzzle device would not fit under the rail but doing the math in my head I thought the threads would clear the rail. I got it for half price as part of their sale so no big deal. Ordered a KAK slim flash can and a Kaw Valley linear comp in FDE - both of them are small enough to fit (per listed specs anyways).
  13. Had a fierce wind but it has died down. No deer yet but just missed a coyote. 120 yards, still in the field, not sure how I pulled that shot. Hunted here 3 years and thats the first coyote I have seen.
  14. Nothing moved around me. Had a 15-20 mph wind the entire time.
  15. I wasnt feeling well last night, woke up at 4am and could barely open my eyes to shut off the alarm. I hit snooze and never woke back up.... Fixing to eat and head out there now though. Would love to drop a couple this afternoon.
  16. Finally was able to order the rest of the parts :) This is a 10.5" barrel. I decided the cost difference was not worth the inch shorter to go with the 9" or 9.5" barrel that I wanted. Will get full pics and details up once fully completed. Have to get the rail (Diamondhead VRS T 10.25") cerakoted and find a different muzzle device - I picked up a Damage Industries 3 slot brake with dissipator sleeve and the sleeve is way too large to fit under my rail - I knew it was too large, but thought the threads would stick out past the rail enough to work. The slot in the brake doesn't fully clear the rail, I could shoot but would be worried about gas cutting the rail. This device is 2.25" overall and the slots are about a half inch too close to the rail. I am looking at devices that are 3" in length now, thinking may have to grab a flaming pig or similar. Here is a few pics. Will get the gas block/tube installed tomorrow and hopefully have the rail cerakoted Magpul FDE next week.
  17. Mailed my box out today. Hope the recipient enjoys it.
  18.   Tell me about the API - I have seen the name but not heard a whole lot. I will look that model up.     I decided there is no real reason to buy a stand right now, waiting until at least January when things go on sale, so taking my time to research the various models and features.
  19. They responded again - sale tomorrow is at a different time and only for prior customers.
  20. Walmart doesn't randomly shut their doors and keep people from accessing the stores during a sale though. Shows poor planning and a weak web server but maybe tomorrow's sale will go better.
  21. Going to see it opening night. Shady Brook Cinema here in Columbia has (had) a Black Friday coupon thing, two tickets/drinks/popcorn/candy for $20. We bought a couple to see this and the new Jurassic Park.
  22. I hoped for a fair chance and I did not get it.   The website was down for over an hour and I never had a chance to find the item (until I came back 2 hours later) much less add it to my cart and attempt to check out. If the website had been functional but the item sold out before I was able to checkout that would be a different situation. Really I am glad I did not get a chance to check out, with the website constantly crashing failed checkout attempts would have been even more infuriating.
  23. I grabbed a Poulan Pro 18" yesterday for $85 at a liquidation outlet. Open box and the saw case is bent but it is new and saved $100 vs buying sealed box.
  24. Put one down this morning, eating and fixing to head back out. I need 3 more for the freezer.
  25. That's a good price for plinking bullets. I grabbed 1k for now.
