Going to see what the weather is like in the morning. Hopefully this rain passes over (70% chance in the morning) and I can get a few hours in the woods before Christmas with the in-laws. I have the doe from Saturday waiting to be ground to burger still, would love to add another instead of messing with the grinder for just one.

Merry Christmas to all. Be safe and enjoy time with family, friends, and away from work.

Do you use a quick detach optic mount?
TNMTBik3r replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
None of my scopes are currently using a QD mount. But I would have no problems using one, from a quality brand. I know from others they are reliable and hold zero if removed. My red dot mount is QD. -
Bushnell AR Optics 4.5-18x40mm BDC Reticle
TNMTBik3r replied to btq96r's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Dangit, just ordered one. I said I wasn't but $132 after rebate for a $100 mount and $150ish scope is too good of a deal. And reviews for this scope seem to be good. Not sure if it will go on my 6.8 build or if I will swap scopes around but a good deal regardless. -
I only went with the hex tube for the look. Brace was never on anything else. Im not concerned about it, just realized it moved and had to be adjusted.

Bushnell AR Optics 4.5-18x40mm BDC Reticle

I am tempted to grab this and keep up for my next build. But I am such a Vortex fan that I am going to pass and grab a Vortex in a couple of months. -
It actually slid over part of the hex shape. The brace fit was super tight when I installed it originally so a bit shocked it loosened that much but should be good to go now.

I have been trying to avoid that because my wife keeps asking too.... Guess it is time for me to add it all up and see how far I was off my quick estimate.... Sig brace - $125 Phase 5 buffer kit - $75 Barrel - $125 Rail - $140 BCG - $90 BAD selector - $65 KAW comp - $40 Receivers - $90 LPK with ALG trigger - $75 Other parts (charging handle, dust cover, bolt release, handstop, etc) - think $50ish So that is $900ish without counting the sling (free from neighbor), light and sights (moved from carbine). I told the wife earlier I thought about $700 :stunned: I took several months, buying parts spread out. And picked up several Black Friday deals to finish the build. I could have completed this a lot cheaper but I had a specific idea in my head - built around this rail which is the most expensive item.
-
Yeah I understand, thought I had a couple full pics but obviously did not. I just took a couple extras. And had to re-adjust the Sig brace, it slid up yesterday so pulled it off and sprayed the tube down with the wife's hairspray and letting it dry. Also moved the hand stop back, it helps line my hand up with the flashlight. My AFG should be here tomorrow and I will test it out, not sure what I sill stick with. I figured out I do NOT like a single point sling, it just gets in the way. Need to figure out how I want to mount a second attachment point, if I keep the handstop can add a sling mount on the bottom rail. If go with the AFG may get a 2" rail and add to the side.
-
I didn't realize seeing the Sig brace was that important. :) The brace was shown in some of the other pics so I wasn't worried about capturing it. Was really just showing off the rail, cerakote job.

That BCG actually went into my rifle, not this pistol. I haven't shot it yet, may get out today. It cycles very smoothly and feels as slick as my other NiB carrier so am sure it will wipe off easily.

Here is a few better pics. Was all in the camera settings, Motorola camera app and defaults are terrible. Photos were taken in the exact same location and same lighting.

Do you tumble/clean rifle brass again after sizing?
TNMTBik3r replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I tumble all my brass in corncob again after sizing. Removes lube and gives a nice polish. -
Took some better pics today, adjusted camera settings. Will link when can get to a laptop, probably tomorrow. Put 100 rounds through it at the range. Very happy with accuracy and performance!

I look at them but place no faith in them.

Depends on how fast you were going and exactly where it hit. I have picked up a few I have seen get hit before and it just depends. I went out this morning. Had 5 does come out across the field 260 yards away. Two of them turned and started trotting back into the woods and I didn't want to miss a chance for meat. Was hoping they would have came closer and maybe a chance to drop two of them but did not look like was going to happen. Luckily the bigger doe of the group was standing still so put a 180gr TTSX into her lungs. 5 down and 2 more would be wonderful.

Secret Santa.. show us what you got....
TNMTBik3r replied to Dolomite`s Breezy's topic in General Chat
Here is what I got....my Santa worked out a credit with Amendment 2 Custom Coatings and it paid for my rail to be coated. Timing was excellent, I had two items being coated this week and am very thankful for the gift! -
Finally finished!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Sorry for the dark pictures, new phone and need to tweak some of the settings I think. Or get my wife to find her digital camera that she wanted and never uses anymore.... Either way I will try to get some better/clearer pics tomorrow. Picked the rail up from being cerakoted today - if you don't already know Amendment 2 Coatings does FANTASTIC work. Everything is put together, hoping that tomorrow afternoon I will be able to run to the range and put a couple hundred rounds down range. If not tomorrow will be shooting on Sunday. Complete build list: PSA lower White Oak Armament LPK with ALG QMS trigger Phase 5 Hex-2 buffer tube with Sig brace Magpul MIAD grip Magpul FDE trigger guard Phase 5 bolt release Battle Arms Development ambi safety in FDE Seekins FDE mag release Fortis QD end plate Magpul MS3 sling set as single point Anderson upper Stroke Industries FDE dust cover MAS Defense 10.5" barrel - 5.56 1:7 twist .750 low profile gas block Diamondhead VRS-T 10.25" rail MAS Defense charging handle with G3 latch Radical Firearms nitride BCG KAW Valley Precision linear comp in FDE I had a KAK slim can on there but like the KAW Valley comp look better. Magpul XTM handstop installed but also have a FDE AFG2 on the way, not sure which one I will end up using. Moved the Primary Arms red dot and Diamondhead flip up sights over from my carbine to this pistol. Installed a PA 1-4x optic on my carbine.
-
Glad you fixed it. My Radical Firearms sights would not zero, the front post was not tall enough (they are Magpul clones). I had to get a different sight set.
-
I have that 1911 and it is extremely accurate. That is a hell of a price for what you get IMO. Oh, not related to Amrscor. DaveTN is correct, part of the Freedom Group.

TNMTBik3r replied to Dolomite`s Breezy's topic in General Chat
My secret santa sent me a mesaage telling me about my gift. It is a great gift and the timing was excellent (they may have caught a couple of my posts and knew). No picture yet, maybe in a few days.... -
I used Mobil 28 aviation grease (Geissele triggers) for my barrel/but. I have a bunch of this grease available if anyone needs some.

Just got home from seeing this. Good movie, glad the series is all wrapped up now. The movie felt slow but was good. I wasn't disappointed but did not walk away reallu impressed either. Felt like they continued to do a good job following the story as best as a movie allows.
