I have always heard that once you add the stock, you have a rifle, and there was no going back to a pistol from that. Hell, I don't know. ATF keeps everything so convoluted, it is a wonder anybody can figure anything out.

You can freely buy stuff like the MechTech kits because there are no legal concerns about converting a pistol to a rifle. The problem with kits like the MechTech is that once you install it on your Glock, you have now made your Glock a rifle (shoulder stock and 16' barrel). After you have made it a rifle, converting it back to anything with barrel less than 16" (or an OAL less than 26") would make it a SBR. I have heard from people who have asked MechTech about the legality of returning their 1911s or Glocks back to their original pistol configuration, after installing the MechTech kits. MechTech never really answers the question. They know the answer, but don't want to tell anybody, because then nobody would buy their product.

It would not be a pistol. You cannot make a pistol out of a rifle. Once something is a rifle, it will always be a rifle. AK pistols (like the Draco) were manufactured in pistol form, and have never had a shoulder stock attached, therefore it is considered a pistol. Per your question, it would more than likely be considered a SBR. It would depend on the overall length (OAL) after the shoulder stock was removed. If the OAL is less than 26", then it would be considered a SBR. If OAL is still 26" or greater, then it would still be a rifle.

You can. ATF does require that a primary caliber be listed on the forms, but nothing precludes you from temporarily shooting different calibers, as long as the firearm can readily be returned to it's Form 1/Form 4 configuration. Permanent changes should be sent in writing to the ATF, so that they can update the NFRTR. If you want to play it safe: I have seen others list additional calibers in block H on the Form 1/Form 4. However, that is not necessary.

My vote is for the Gemtech Outback II. AAC's cans (Aviator/Pilot/Element) are also an excellent choice.

Walther P22 pistols already come with a threaded barrel, so, no need for a replacement barrel. You will need to purchase a thread adapter to match the 1/2 x 28 thread pitch of a .22 suppressor.

Yes to both questions. If you are going to make a permanent change (caliber, barrel length, etc...) to what is on the Form 1 or Form 4, you should notify the NFA Branch in writing. Otherwise, swap away at your leisure.

Okay, take the federal violation out of the picture. TCA 39-17-1302 still requires that a suppressor be registered on the NFRTR to be legal in TN. Which means that you would still have to have an approved Form 1 for your "Made in TN" suppressor to be legal under state law. Which makes the whole TFFA moot. I fail to see why people are all excited about the TFFA. It does nothing. It's a joke. However, if you think it is so great, you can be the first test case. Let us know how it turns out for you.

Keeping the BCG well lubricated is the key to reliability with an AR style rifle. I wouldn't put so much on it that it runs down into your mag and ammo, but I am very generous with the oil on my ARs.

The TFFA changed none of that, so don't get your hopes up for any sane person to test it.
