I have a DD M4V3 with about 3000 rounds through it. Mine has a well worn area inside the upper receiver, but not as bad as yours. My BCM Gunfighter charging handle has the anodizing worn off on the sides and on the top. I do remember it being a bit gritty at first, but the rifle hand cycles as smooth as butter now. Honestly, I would not even worry about it unless the rifle is having reliability issues. My rifle has been 100% reliable. Are you having reliability problems while firing? You did not mention any in your postings.

I know what the ATF FAQ page says, and they don't include all of the information. Next time, try reading the actual law instead of the FAQ section. The FAQ is a good for general info, but it is not the law. Yes, you will save yourself some grief. UPS or FedEx will get more worked up on this matter than the ATF ever will. Plus, I would love to see what they would charge me with, since no law was broken.

Partially true. You only have to declare the firearm if you are shipping it to someone other than a licensed dealer or manufacturer. Since yours is going back to the manufacturer, you do not have to tell UPS or FedEx. That will save you any grief of them freaking out over shipping a firearm.

Sounds like you have a crappy HOA board, and an even crappier property management company. I live in a development with an HOA, and I like it. Both the board and the management company are very responsive to any problems, and the property is well maintained. Sorry you are having problems, hopefully you can get it straightened out with the property manager.

Yep. Looks like those are extra, so add about $150 to the cost, plus that is a polymer lower (which I don't like). I would definitely take the S&W Sport over that build.
-
I give another vote for the S&W M&P15 Sport. It is a bare bones AR (no forward assist or dust cover), but you still have the ability to customize it in the future. They can be bought brand new in the $600 to $700 range. It is hard to beat at that price. Around Nashville, I would check places like Guns & Leather or Outpost Armory. The Sport is very popular, and it can be hard to find. If you want to build one, that is fine, but you will probably spend around the same as the M&P Sport, once you buy all the components and tools that you will need.

Another vote for SWAT. It is the only one I get.

Yep. A quick call to Member Services will get you off the mailing list. I do agree the the tactic with the DVD is pretty bad. They sent me the same DVD last year, along with the notice that I had to return in or pay for it. I never watched it, and didn't return it, or pay for it. I never heard anything from them about it again.

I have no idea what they are talking about. Maybe they are referring to a .223 Remington chamber as the "non-standard" 5.56mm chamber.

Never shot one, but I have handled a couple of his 1911s from people trying to sell them. I was not very impressed. One had a horrible thumb safety on it. I don't see how that one made it out of the shop.

You gave your friend some bad advice. The design of the 5.7x28mm cartridge (at least the ones available for civilian use) makes overpenetration highly unlikely. 5.7 ammo bullets tend to tumble end over end when once they enter material (human tissue, drywall, ballistic gelatin, etc....). In doing so, they dump all of their energy into the target, making overpenetration unlikely. And if it did go through the intended target, it is doubtful it would have enough energy to cause significant damage. FNH recommends the SS195LF for defensive purposes, and it is a very effective round. Too bad, your friend gave up a damn good defensive pistol.

While rare, it is not hype. In addition to the cases Chip has cited above, there was also a case from Arizona (I think) where the prosecutor really played up the angle that the shooter used 10mm ammo.........calling it too powerful, and meant for LEO use. Ridiculous argument, but I think the guy was convicted. I saw that case profiled on Dateline, or one of those other news shows a few years ago.

I love GS cookies! I get them every year. Thin Mints and Trefoils are my favs. Also, the Thank U Berry Much cookies are damn good, as well.

How to ship a handgun out of state for customizing
Reservoir Dog replied to runningfree's topic in General Chat
UPS seems to be more on top of things when shipping firearms. Go to a UPS hub for shipping, do not use the UPS Stores. -
I guess a cook-off is a possibility, although, in all my years of shooting, I have never seen one. Recently, I went through a carbine training class, and in some of the drills, we would go through 5 or 6 30rd mags in the span of a few minutes. The instructors advised us that (if we felt it necessary) to lock back the BCGs on our ARs, to let the barrel ventilate after these drills. I never did it, and never had a problem. My guess is the 12 to 15 limit is just "lawyer speak" they put in the manual.

Risks? There are no risks.
-
Maybe, but not by much. At least Sons of Guns doesn't claim to have "explosive rounds" that don't exist. And I sure hope FPS has a tax stamp for that Five Seven in the video.
-
Holy crap! FPS Russia is like Sons of Guns.............stupid and fake. I have a FN Five Seven, and have shot it quite a bit. I love the pistol. It is lightweight, very little recoil, and highly accurate. I have not had any trouble finding ammo in the Nashville area, as several gun stores carry the rounds. Disassembly is extremely easy (very similar to a Glock).

I like to have the ability to change out rails. Maybe I want to go a different route with my rifle, or I find a rail system I like better than what I have. There are various reasons. With the 6920 you have that ability. With the 6940, you are stuck with what you got. However, if you don't plan on using the rail system, then why spend the extra $300 or so on the 6940? Buy extra mags and ammo!
-
If accuracy is you primary concern, then the 6940 would have a slight advantage out of the box because of the free-float barrel (due to the design of the monolithic upper). That being said, I am not sure that the slight accuracy increase justifies the higher price and lack of versatility of the 6940. The 6920 could be made to do everything the 6940 can, with the added ability to change out rail platforms (if you ever wanted).

Ah! That got it working. Thanks! Still weird that it was only not working on TGO. Must be a Win7/IPB thing.
-
No. I don't frequent any other forums that use IPB.
-
Yeah, I thought that might be the problem, but after clearing cookies/history/cache, spell check is still not working on TGO. Every other website is fine. Also, the copy/paste feature (using right-click in the reply box) is not showing up for me either, Having to use CTRL+V to paste. Both of these are quite odd.
-
Okay. Do we need to go into Firefox and individually turn it on for the website? Spell check is working fine on every other website I frequent, but it does not work on TGO since the change. Running Win7 & Firefox 10.0.1
