I've played with a few of em, they're awesome, much better quality than an AK IMHO but they're much heavier. They also can't accept drums, mag well is too deep.

Nah, AN's aren't being issued to the common soldier and they WERE looking at replacing all their conventional small arms with AK-12's and variants of it. Apparently their excuse for not doing so was that they had too many fully functional unused AK's as it is. I guess one of those, "if it ain't broke" type thoughts on it.
-
You're thinking of the AN-94(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN-94), what I posted is an AK-12, the new rifle that will be replacing ALL the other AK variants eventually, or rather WAS.

Calling him an old man I can see why... ;)

Really all I'm looking for is a combat weapon, not really to be stupid accurate. If I can land hits on a man sized target within 2-3 inches that's good enough for me, haha. DUDE!!! Is that an AC556?!?!
-
How inaccurate is the old school barrel?

Good thing it's warming up, gives me a reason to hop back on the bike.

I don't think it should be required to get training but it is most certainly advantageous for ANYONE carrying to get it as well as being well versed on the laws surrounding carrying a firearm at all.

Be allowed to carry concealed(or otherwise) onto a base? What's your opinion TGO as I know many are former/active service members. http://www.kvue.com/news/Austin-Veterans-speak-out-on-guns-on-postsbases-debate-253987591.html "AUSTIN -- In light of Wednesday’s shootings on the Fort Hood post in Killeen, there’s been a growing debate around the nation about whether military men and women should be allowed to carry concealed weapons on military posts and bases. The vast majority of the veterans KVUE found Friday at VFW Post 8787 in North Austin say absolutely not. “Nobody should bring a weapon on base. I don't care who it is,†said Bob Burcar, a veteran who served in three of the nation’s four Armed Forces. Burcar’s wife, Dianne, is also a veteran. They met in the Army Reserves 40 years ago. She agreed with her husband. “If they have a weapon assigned to them, it's in the armory. If they need it, they go sign it out. I don't think that anybody should be able to carry a concealed weapon on to a post,†said Dianne Burcar. “You don't know what they've gone through, so it's a real iffy question, I think,†said U.S. veteran Bill Bennett, who fought in Korea and Vietnam. Bennett believes it’s OK to allow U.S. military personnel on international bases and posts to carry concealed weapons, however he is torn over allowing it on American facilities. “Even in Vietnam, they locked our weapons up, and the only time we got them is when we went out to guard the perimeters,†said Bennett. Every veteran KVUE spoke to said they'd like to see less attention focused on the guns on posts debate and more on getting current and former military personnel timely help to cope with PTSD."

Funny you should say that since the Russians have adopted a new rifle using the same 1913 system we adopted about a decade ago... but I concede to your pics hilarity.

I'm not at all familiar with Mini's so enlighten me as to what you mean pre 580? Is that pre 2005? If so, yes, mine was produced in Feb of 1985. Also, mine is not a Ranch Rifle and is a full on Mini, or at least according to the nice lady at Ruger it is and from what info I've found so far leads to that.
-
I would but the barrel is already rethreaded, if accuracy is an issue when I take it out I may just consider that or even possibly a new barrel altogether.
-
Pretty much hence the name. It uses that same rotating bolt and op rod system that the M1 Garand/ M14(M1A) use and I think that the M1 Carbine also uses it BUT the Mini even has the same safety as a M14-M1A. It really is like a miniature M14.

Sorry, had a Bob Barker moment as I was watching Happy Gilmore recently... Moving on, I just acquired a Mini-14 sitting in a Hogue overmold stock and the ol gal has some cosmetic issues, it was missing the front sight and someone had boogered up the front threads till they were almost smoothed over in some spots. Apparently the mook who had it before I guess put something on there such as one of those one piece front sight/flash-hider deals, ugh... Well my buddy, whom is a machinist and just happens to have a 1/2x28 rethread die, was able to get er back normal. I'm currently in the process of tracking down a factory front sight and have found an after market rear sight to replace the garbage factory rear by Tech-Sight(not sure on their quality, any of you dealt with em?). I would LOVE to find a factory GB stock for it but ouch, at that price I can throw it into a Sage Int'l stock. I figure for being in it at $400, meh, I'm okay with tracking down some parts and possibly a refinish.

U.S. Navy's New boomstick: 32-megajoule rail gun
whitewolf001 replied to jhc77's topic in General Chat
Negative, Metal Gear Rex. The rail gun system on it was used to deploy it's nuclear payload into the atmosphere prior to ignition. Most early warning networks pick up on the heat signature of the launch of the warhead but what happens if the ignition is only detected halfway through the warheads travel? Scary stuff indeed, and this was from a video game from when I was a kid. -

Now we need to start working bi-pedal tanks to equip them to.... -
Welcome cousin, I'm from the sticks to the east so I can't answer your questions but these fellers sure can.

The Nitride BCG from AIM is also a good buy. I put one in my SaberD-stein build I did, she needed to be broken in and didn't really wanna go into battery on that first round.

Here you go, I made a thread about this one a while back. It's a Krebs prototype they are considering making available in 2015...

I need recommendations for a defensive shotgun.
whitewolf001 replied to bird333's topic in Long Guns
I'm a fan of any home defense shotgun with the exception of the 500, nothing against owners of such but my observation is of that when you cycle the action after it's new, the weapon becomes a rattle can. Good guns for the money but I just can't get over the 'rattle-rattle' aspect after putting some rounds down range. Good shotguns for the money, 870 or 590/590A1; go with either and you won't be disappointed. If money isn't an issue, get a Saiga, Spas12, FNH SLP, or Benelli M2 or M4. My favorite compromise in between for price/firepower/semi or pump is the Remington 1100 Police, under 1k, can rapidly deploy shot down range and is a pretty simple design. -
Excellent choice for your first handgun, especially for the price. My first 1911 was Thumper, a Springfield Omega 1911A1 in 10mm Auto and it wasn't my last either. ;)
