E clip launched into the stratosphere
Wiljo05 replied to gregintenn's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I use one of those giant "space" bags to do my assembly in...you know the ones Billy Maze told me that would let me to vacuum pack an elephant into the size of a large shoe box. Seriously though, for the cost, having 1 or 2 spare springs and detents for all aspects of a lower is never a bad idea. Might even give a reason to start another build. -
I hunted Missouri a few weeks ago, sat in 30-40 mph winds and saw deer early and very late. They didn't seem to mind the wind, but could be they are used to it. Seemed opposite of here for sure

Problem #2 with putting the guns up each night is loss of value. Accidents happen and all it takes is a slip here or there and you have a fancy scuff or scratch on that once bnib weapon. Even the most cautious person can have it happen, or even it just being misplaced in the safe and falling over scuffing itself and others. I think it was best said, good alarm and good equipment to make it damn time consuming to get in. A lot of us take that and apply it to our homes. After all, the value of family that is in our homes is far greater and un replaceable than the value or content of any store.

I saw "THE" buck I've been watching for a while this morning...on my way to work that is! He was bedded down behind the house in the field with 7 does just hanging out. Hadn't seen him in a week and gives me hope since I figured someone would have shot him off the road by now. Sadly we have a lot of that in my area it seems. Had I not had to go in today, I would have taken a shot but that would have made for a tough morning with work and such. Maybe karma will come back to me and lead him to my stand this evening!

No kidding! Bob and Tom have some pretty funny stuff. Ever since the lost their syndication here I've had to listen to them on Tune-In radio.

To me there is no better time to hunt that any time you have available. I've taken deer in the morning as well as the evening. There are pros and cons to each that we can come up with. But to me, I'll sit at noon if that's the only time I have available! I enjoy the peacefulness of the woods as well as the thrill of the hunt. My son is 3, but when he is old enough I want him to adopt a lot of the things that were instilled in me. One thing I was taught was to take advantage of every opportunity given, and even if mid day to get out there and sit in nature and soak it in.

2014 Off Season Support Group Deer Season Thread

The truck said 14 degrees when I pulled into the lease this morning...I made it till 9 somehow. Shot a coyote at 40 yards at 7:15 and watched a tiny racked 4 pt about 20 min later. He sniffed the coyote and then walked right over it. -

I believe they do. It's even more critical if they will ever hunt in other states, for example Missouri and Illinois require proof of Hunter Safety course completion in order to buy a license. Not just that but it seemed like a right of passage for me when I went thru it! By the way great move on their Lifetime License! I got my boy his for his second birthday. One day he will know the value of it I hope!

I work in the industry, when I say rare it's roughly 1 in 17.5 million connections! Granted as much as people use their phones it can and will happen, but generally you will only hear from a friend of a friend that knows someone it happened to... Nothing like the first analog cordless phones though that worked well as low power CB's and picked up everything within an 8th mile!

More likely to be a switching error at the Switch. Rare, but it happens. Most likely to happen if the call is being made as either the caller or receiver is in a handoff between cell sites...not getting too deep into it but although it happens it's very rare now.

I'll be carry the freshly built .458. I just got back from Missouri trying to chase some white tails, and they haven't started rutting there yet. The winds were 30+ mph and 60 degrees while I was there so that didn't make it easier. Hoping for some movement on the he deer this weekend! -
My favorite call when nothing else seems to work is a turkey reed call. Make it sound like a wounded dog. Had a guy one time jokingly tell me he has a call that sounds like a baby hippo in distress lol. Sometimes it just takes something different to peak their interest. come February though it's on! Throw a female whimper or howl combined with distress and get ready

Recommend .22lr Scope for ~$200

+1 for this. I have the P-22 and the P-223 and like the crap outta both of them. -
If by dumping you mean driving an old tobacco stake thru it so they have to work to get it then that's what I do too!
-
I use a primos mouth call. It's called the little sky-ote. Small blue open reed call that is very flexible and can make tons of different distress sounds depending how you work it. Bottom line any call that you can make a horrible, murder like sound with seems to work if the dogs are in earshot...also, take a triple reed turkey mouth call and practice making it sound like a hurt puppy

I can see some clown now wearing it out on opening day of gun season on a WMA. Shortly followed by the headline "hunter shot multiple times while wearing deer costume" on wsmv
-
Can't beat the corded one. I've never had much luck with the battery powered ones. They never seemed to hold a charge long enough to be practical for me

with the way the countries economy is going, he could use paper money. It'll be worthless soon anyway :wall:

if you can find an adjustable beam it will help. My Protac has a more of a flood pattern. its solid at sub 100 yards but washes out after that. Dont get me wrong, its stupidly bright, but even thru a scope i have trouble seeing beyond 100yrds
