  1. I have been using varget with the 405's works great. Best thumper load I have is a max load of RL7 and a 350grn HRN, that is just brutal, but very accurate. A moderate loaded 405 grn lead or jacketed bullet can probably shoot through a cow from end to end.
  2. They are not known as Guns and *******s for nothing.
  3. I agree that Mr Pickler is fully to blame for the situation. He forced a non issue, MCS called his bluff, and is now he is trying to backtrack. I am sure it will cost me money but if the powers to be can do this right it may help Memphis and the County. Time will tell.
  4. Just found this. Ruger’s New Gunsite Scout 308 Bolt-Action Rifle
  5. Very interesting. I wonder what kind velocities you would get from a 16.5" barrel.
  6. Welcome.
  7. My wife said almost the same thing. I told her that True Grit was a different animal. So she wants to watch the original first. JW won a oscar for this movie. It really is a good flick. I was against the remake until I read that the Coen's didn't want to remake True Grit the movie, they wanted to make a movie that followed the book. Now I have to read the book.
  8. Cocked and Locked.
  9. Breaking ice and moving buoys on the Great Lakes.
  10. It was 10 years ago. But I wouldn't be surprised that we let those skills erode. I think with the sinking of the S. Korean ship it may start to be more important.
  11. I used to hunt Vandenberg quite a bit. They had lots of missles. And there is a sub base in San Diego...................who knows.
  12. I am pretty sure I was joking. I have been retired for a while but I suspect our ASW skills are just as good if not better than when I was in.
  13. Had to be North Korean.
  14. I forgot one thing about a scope on a 45-70. Make sure you have lots of eye relief.
  15. My 1895 will shoot one inch groups at 100 with no problem. With a properly sighted and practiced round I wouldn't have a problem out to 175 maybe 200. They did accuracy tests with the 45-70 in the 1800/1900 on Long Island and I think the range was something like 1800 yards. Of course it was more like an artillery round at that distance.
  16. 45-70 is a great deer rifle. Within its range it will kill anything on this or any other continent. It can be loaded from mild to wild. I have a 1895ss it is extremely accurate. I used irons but had a Leupold 2x7 on it. It can also be used for Coyote.
  17. Welcome aboard Shipmate.
  18. Give it up. Folks don't want to listen to reason. They just want to stir the sh$%.

  20. I saw the biggest buck I have ever seen in TN this morning at 0924. He ran in front of me as I was leaving the Shelby Forest Visitor Center. Huge body and a gynormous non-typical rack.
  21. I feel for you. There is nothing worse (imo) than being wrapped up in a dysfunctional family situation. No matter how sane you are, it will make you and yours crazy.
  22. And you moved back so your son could be close to that? I don't mean to sound crass, but from your description I would have to move far far away. I mean I have some crazy family, and even though they are family they are crazy. So I tend to puts lots of distance between my relatively sane life and their insane life.
  23. I have known a few folks we called "Hunter Killers". They took pleasure in attracting sexual attention from homosexuals they were stationed with, and then outing them. Now those people made my skin crawl.
  24. I agree. My wife and I were discussing this last night. I am retired Coast Guard she is active Navy. We both agreed that this was similar to integrating the military and to women in the military. It is not as if gays have not been in the military since the dawn of time. I served with many gays from many different branches, and if they were indicative of the caliber of personnel that can be recruited from the gay community then we are missing out.
  25. I love the Swedes. But I have the K98 and Enfield. All are good shooters.
