  1. Dang! What type 12 pounder does he have, do you know?   DaveS
  2. I just about fell out of my chair when I seen this. That'll learn those animal rights folks!   http://gizmodo.com/5886013/hunters-shoot-animal-rights-drone-out-of-the-sky   DaveS
  3. Very true. She may have only wanted her 5 minutes of fame. I hope she enjoyed it!   DaveS
  4. Because a certain persons mom went to the senate because her son was killed if Florida bay another certain person, and she wants the "stand your ground" laws looked at and clarified. That's what I take from the TV news that reported on it.   DaveS
  5. I take it as she is giving candy unless the child is obese in her opinion.   DaveS
  6. It touches us as well, as we have to go and make every move every soldier made, so that people can see what happened. It adds a whole new prospective to a battle. Go out and do what Mike does, but now add the noise and smoke and it will surely raise your hair!   Take the 125th anniversary battle of Shiloh I was involved with 25 years ago. You can read about Ruggles Battery of Confederate Artillery (62 cannon) firing on the union lines at Shiloh and get somewhat of a feel for that portion of the battle. Now, experience that in person with the noise, smoke and the ground rumbling from those 62 cannons (there were 62 there) firing salvo's into the advancing Union Army. It'll raise your hair and make you weak in the knees. Add on to that, that during the real battle, those 62 guns were firing as fast as they could solid shot, explosive shell and canister (shotgun type shells). Un-imaginable human destruction!   DaveS
  7. I'm a Civil War Artillery Re-enactor, and I guarantee it is easier to adjust your shot down on an enemy than to shoot "up" at them. Them Union gunners had to be very experienced to put their shells on target on a hill top.   Thanks for sharing your pictures.   DaveS
  8. That is awesome! What a view our boys in gray and butternut had! DaveS
  9. I don't try to be fast at skinning them as I tan and sell the buckskin or fur and don't need to tear or cut the hide. Now deer hides I don't plan on using...that's a different story!   DaveS
  10. In judging that yes. In judging why a kid standing on my porch is fat, and for me to judge whether this child gets candy or a note, is not for me, you or anyone else to judge. Treat everyone as an equal, the rest works itself out.   We as adults are suppose to be role models for all the little people who look up at us. When our children (even other kids) see us acting as such as this lady is, then all of a sudden it's ok to single out obese children and treat them differently than other kids. Why your child is skinny or fat is none of my concern. But I damn sure ain't going treat them differently than other kids in the neighborhood.   May we say that chunky little kid that you denied candy to, but give his friend some maybe getting bullied enough at school for being obese, that us adults shouldn't be doing it as well?   The problem in this country right now, is that we care very little about other people's feelings, just so long as OUR's feelings don't get hurt. This country would be a much better place to live, if we all just cared a little bit more about the next person.   That's why we shouldn't judge.   DaveS
  11. When the Confederate troops hauled their Mountain Howitzers up to those vantage points...look at the range they could achieve.....devastating! DaveS
  12. When you sit on the battlefield looking at books and maps, it changes the whole view of the battlefield in my opinion.   DaveS
  13. Since no one was hurt/killed except him, does he still get his 72 virgins? What a dumb*****!   DaveS
  14. Mike; I thought I was the only one who did that. It adds a who new dimension to reading about a battle. One that the book alone can't express.   DaveS
  15. Oh I know. It's funny that you mention what you did because I repeatedly say just the opposite to my grand kids!   DaveS
  16. Some how, I was waiting for that deer to "pop like a balloon" while he was filling her with air. What a mess that would have been!   DaveS
  17. Could you just imagine how that child would feel when 4 or 5 other children standing on the porch got candy and you got a letter to take home to your parents because someone "thinks" you're a little chunky?   Yeah, I agree with suing, for no other reason than to get her head out of her "blind spot".   DaveS
  18. That's what I want to know. If she's that concerned about the child's weight, give them something healthy instead of hurting that child's feelings. I don't think this is going to go well for that lady.   DaveS
  19. I can agree to that. But who are we or she to judge?   DaveS
  20. Get away from the video games and go out and get some sun!! That's what I tell my grand kids all the time.   DaveS
  21. Head over to Stones Rivers and catch their Cannon firing demonstrations. I love civil war history and reenact it as much as possible. Touring battlefields is a blast!   DaveS
  22. I've felt like it at times though! LOL Just joking with ya!   DaveS
  23. Let alone the fact that some children are obese because of health issues or hereditary. Why does everyone think obesity is caused from eating? In most cases it is, in many others it is not.   DaveS
  24. Ron; I've never shot them and don't know anyone who has. At one time or another I have tried all those fake powders. I have never, nor will I ever, shoot pre measured "pellets" in any of my guns.  Reason being is it doesn't take that much powder to move a bullet down range.  I hear people shooting 3 Pyrodex pellets (150 grains of powder totaI) out of their guns. That much powder is not needed to be accurate and effective. You're wasting powder and beating yourself to death in the process. I deer hunt with .50 cals and all three of them shoot 80 grains of true black powder. I've never had a problem with black powder (well almost), and I'm hitting coke bottles at a hundred yards, and I'm very happy.   I'm a pure black powder man Ron, sorry I couldn't give you a report on "White Hot's".   DaveS
  25. Mostly blank rounds (for the reenactments) live cannon ammo is highly frowned upon during reenactments, but we have had live fires with them. Problem is, those 3" ordnance rifles have a range of about 1800 yards. Most live shoots are conducted at about 200-300 yards, and they are quite impressive when fired live. Steel rounds are very expensive to shoot, but some folks shoot veggy cans filled with concrete depending on bore size. Not us!   But generally blank rounds for noise and smoke.   DaveS
