TN family and one hell of an escalation of a traffic stop
DaveS replied to Sam1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I can understand breaking windows to gain access to the driver. The best I could tell in the video was the "driver" is in the drivers seat in the front left of the vehicle. The angle of the video seems like the officer is busting out the right rear window of the van. Along way from the driver! He looks like he's doing out of anger! I guess we all don't know the whole story yet. The driver, her son and the cop will have plenty of bonding time in the county jail. DaveS -
Being a retired Taxidermist I feel the need to answer your question. Shop for a Taxidermist now before one is needed. Make an appointment (don't just pop in on him) to visit his shop and look at his work. Get a price list and other info such as "turn-a-round" time, deposits, business hours ect ect. Just field dress your deer (normal field dressing, do not cut up into the brisket area) and take it to your processor. Tell him you want it caped for mounting and he'll know what to do. If he doesn't, go find another processor. When you pick the head up from the processor place it into a box or leave it open, do not put it in a plastic trash bag. Moisture + lack of air + heat = equals a bad or ruined head before it's mounted. Take it straight to the Taxidermist. DO NOT drive around for days with the head in the back of your truck showing it off to your buddies. They'll be much more impressed with the mount than a decaying deer head! I hope this helps, and hopefully I answered more questions than I raised. Good Luck and keep us posted. DaveS

Exactly. A little self control on part of the police would have helped a little too. I don't think this is going to end well for the officers involved. By no means am I anti LEO (actually just the opposite), but I'm still scratching my head on this one. DaveS -
I've had almost every variety of cornbread known and in my opinion, just good old buttermilk cornbread cooked in my cast iron skillet is unbeatable. Every now and then I like to throw in a little jalapeno pepper and shredded cheddar. Whisk together the following and set aside; 1/4 cup cooking oil 1 egg 1 1/3 cups Buttermilk heat oven to 450 Take your cast iron skillet and put a little oil in it and stick it in the oven. Keep an eye on the skillet and when the oil gets hot, mix; 2 cups of Cornmeal in to the above ingredients. Mix well. Just as soon as the oil in the skillet starts to smoke, remove it from the oven using a good set of pot holders, and pour/spoon your cornmeal mix into the skillet. If you got your oil hot enough it will start frying your mix. That's what you want. Place in oven and bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown on top. Serve hot with butter. BE VERY CAREFUL AS YOUR SKILLET WILL BE VERY HOT!!! DaveS

This is a good example of how things can get out of hand in a very short period of time. The officers went a little above and beyond with what was required. TV 5 news this morning reported that the Police later found dope pipes in the van, buts that's no excuse for shooting at the van! This whole situation was 100% preventable! DaveS -
Sounds good. Today may be a good day for RB and Rice. Thanks for sharing your recipe! DaveS

Legal. They are loaded from the front of the cylinder and not from the breech and does not fire manufactured ammo. DaveS

Dear Mr. Buck D. Deer; I hope this letter finds you doing well, and that you are enjoying a few of my favorite hunting spots. The reason I’m writing this letter is to voice a complaint about your behavior on my property. But first, a little history: Three years ago while I was bow hunting my food plot, you, your mom and your twin brother showed up and started eating away at my turnip greens. You two little fawns were running, ripping and honestly being little pains in the asses. I liked to fell out of my tree stand laughing when you tried to nurse and your momma mule kicked you with both back legs and rolled you on the ground. Personally I think you deserved it. I do however wish to say how sorry I am for putting that arrow through her ribs and sent you and your brother scampering for the thickets. She wasn’t nothing but a hoe anyways. That same year, my Daughter shot your Daddy (all 182 pounds and 12 points of his) while he was tom cat’ing around and chasing other women. Oh by the way, doe in heat lure, doe decoys and bleat calls really work. Just ask your Daddy! Now last year was certainly something to think about. You and your twin brother was down in “Rub Valley†just fighting each other to beat the band! Y’all should be a little more considerate of others and kind of keep the noise level down just a tad. And by the way, I’m the guy that shot your brother. Better off anyways considering he was kicking your ass. You owe me! Then in early December while hunting “Shock and Awe Ridgeâ€, while I’m sitting on a bucket leaned back against a tree, while grunting and rattling like no tomorrow, you had no call running up to within 10 yards behind me and snorting . When I turned around and saw you standing a mere 10 yards back foaming at the mouth, you caused me to fall off my bucket and I threw my hip out causing me considerable pain and discomfort for days. Not funny Mr. Deer, not funny at all! All was well until this year and your recent behavior concerns me. Opening day of Muzzleloader I went and hunted “Rub Valleyâ€. At the same time, you posed for my trail camera up on “Shock and Awe Ridgeâ€. What was that deal all about? Oh and Sunday morning? You lucked out big time! While you come just bee bopping along the thicket that runs from “Shock and Awe Ridge†to “Heartbreak Passâ€, I shot at you, that’s right it was me. Lucky for you that little tree ran out in front of that bullet and splattered bark all over you. My bad…s**t happens! Then you turned around just the other day and sashayed right up to the trail camera, stuck your nose to it (yes, I see your antler tines in the picture) and acted like you had no cares in the world. But seriously did you have to stick your tail up in the air and take a dump? By the way, I seen your handy work of a pile layed in front of the cam. That was totally uncalled for! Here’s my deal; one day this week let’s meet for coffee. Let’s say about 0630, My stand, I’ll bring the coffee. I’ll even let you pose for the camera. While you pose look about 15 yards past the camera, look up about 15 foot and smile. I really do want to see the look on your face when “Ol’ Git Some†lets out that billowing cloud of smoke! Peace Mr. Deer DaveS Giblet Gibson Enjoy and have a laugh!

MO Cop to open-carry chicks: "Show me your papers!"

I removed it as I didn't like it thrown in my face. DaveS -
I don't let the owls bother me. But I do get a little concerned when the buzzards land in the trees and start "sizing me up" as rugerla1 says. No thanks! DaveS

Since I'm starting to have more and more problems with my legs, and climbing stands are getting hard to do, I'm going to start hunting from one. DaveS

What did you get Slappy? When you take your first deer with it, you'll be hooked forever! DaveS

I did say that I made a mistake and misread. And I found the correct info. I think I stated that to you right? So your point is? Dave -

I honestly wasn't going to reply to this thread; but I feel a need to defend myself here. First of all, I joined the Army in 1972 as an MP. (gives me the right to use the badge Icon here). Spent 13 years as an MP Game Warden (again gives me the right to use the Icon), Spent from 1987 to 2010 as a Firefighter/EMT (again gives me the right to use the badge Icon) Spent from 2010 until recently as a member of the USFWS (again using the badge Icon) where did I ever say I was LEO in this thread? I didn't give a crap about 39-17-1351r1 yesterday, don't give a crap about it today, and damn sure won't worry about it tomorrow. I just don't give a rats rear! If you have any problem about me using the Badge Icon, file a complaint with the moderators and leave me the hell alone about it. Let me ask you sir; what's your resume say? DaveS -
Yep, that's how we hunted them in Florida back in June. DaveS
