  1. There is no magic wand for tanning a deer hide (or any hide for that matter). Fleshed well, shaved thin and worked during it's drying stage. You can tan a deer hide with a pack of pork brains from the grocery store, a bar of Fels Naptha Soap, and the list goes on and on. But it all boils down to elbow grease and a thin hide.
  2. If you're just going to do one or two hides, that is a fine kit for it. You had success with the first one, don't change now! I personaly use Lutan F tan. I do alot of hides so I buy in bulk. Also remember, that the thinner you can flesh a hide down to, the softer it can become.
  3. OK folks....I got first dibs on the .50 cal!!! Nice indeed!
  4. Thank You Sir!
  5. I know a few people that is so afraid of snakes they will almost wet themselves when they see them. The part that gets me is, is the snake is crawling AWAY and they get after it with a stick, rock, log, hoe ect., ect. instead of just letting the thing crawl away.
  6. My 14 year old Daughter took this fine 12 point buck on October 31st, 2010. I mounted it for her for Christmas, and as soon as we finish her room, it will be hanging there.
  7. I harvested this 10 point buck on the 2nd day of our gun season. I just got the mount finished. It's still hanging in the shop and hasn't been brought in yet.
  8. It's a shoulder pedistal mount. If I were to do it all over again, I would have "opened" his mouth slightly and angled his head slightly upward as if he was howling. The pedistal mounts are nice.
  9. This boar dressed at 150 and I took it with bow. I did a full body mount with this one as it was my first bow hog.
  10. 275 lb wild boar taken by my son with bow in 2009. Mounted by me.
  11. Here is my "yote" mount.
  12. Nice beautiful yote! Good job.
  13. Very nice Rob!
  14. I think that's what he's looking for. I'm too far away to be of any help to him. There should be a WMA or two near memphis somewhere.
  15. It already is law. Very hard to enforce unless you actually catch the person. It's called "wanton waste law". You can't enforce it. I agree though. I've been to public land (wma's) and found bucks with their antlers and backstraps gone. I'm real sure they weren't never checked in!
  16. Nice collection Krull.....Robtatoo, is that a Kudu? Nice mount though!
  17. Even if you only had "one" deer, you could compete with that. It's not about how many mounts you have, but what that one mount means to you. That's what a trophy is all about. Be proud of your couple deer...numbers should me nothing to you!
  18. T-Shot and BB is fine for yotes. But alot of times, you can only use 4- shot or smaller. Crazy!
  19. "The harvesting of any animal in which there is no specified season, may only be done so by special proclamation of the wildlife resources commission". Snakes are a protected species in TN, and may not be harvested ect., ect.,. I'm sure it all comes down to "intent". There is a differnce between rattlesnake hunting and killing a Copperhead in your yard. Read up on it.
  20. You have a good attitude sir!
  21. I had to "hop the fence" sorta, based on some things I seen this year. I'm going to start the point restriction on my private property. I will publicaly say....you are right!
  22. I believe doe season is open throughout the bow/ML/gun season. I know it is here in unit L.
  23. As far as I know, Kentucky doesn't allow rifle hunting for turkeys. I could be wrong though. Sir, with all due respect, it is bad enough turkey hunting with some fools armed with a shotgun. I darn sure don't want to be "set up" on a bird on the edge of a field, then have some yo-yo shoot me because they wanted to take a 200 yard shot at a turkey, and hit me! That would never happen in TN.
  24. 1. Change Muzzle loader to "primitive" only. Move modern M/L into the gun season. Traditional cap and flint only. 2. Change the minimum antler lenght from 3" to a minimum of 4 points on buck only hunts. 3. I'll reconsider my stand on night hunting. Shotgun only on private property.
