Who got you started in hunting and fishing?

Teaching your children to hunt, and watching them harvest their first game is something you'll never forget! -
Where is Ooltewah? Eastward from here I bet....
-
I think you asked "too much" of the wife thingie....my hats off to you on that one Brother!
-
I thought about the "mickey boots" while sitting in a stand. Don't know that I could walk much in them.
-
I got the sportsman also. All I wanted to do was hunt pigs. Dang......I should ask TWRA for a refund!
-
With Squirrel and Deer seasons right around the corner, it's time to revisit the tanning instructions, and ordering supplies. Get set now!
-
I bought a chump pair of neoprene rubber boots from Academy Sports. I wear them year round here in middle Tennessee. 'Nuff said!

In my humble opinion, any year that God gives you more time on earth, is a good year for hunting!

Well TGO friends, the food plots are being destroyed by deer and turkey. Portions of them need re-planted, which will be done this week. Turkey's are a real problem right now, and I am going to call TWRA tomorrow and see if I can get a "predation animal permit" to kill them, or get them to trap them, and get those "dirt peckers" off the property, as they are destroying my deer plots. With bow season coming up, I have cleared shooting lanes, placed trail cams on trails and food plots, and located alternate stand sites. What else do ya'll do, as part of your annual scouting routine? Oh yeah, got my hide tanning set up, as I need some "buckskin" for blackpowder projects this year!
-
Well, I picked up TWO copies of the regs today. They both say the SAME THING and I can't make sense out of either one!
-
No, Dick Cheney is out! Safety violations!
-
All good comments. I feel alot the same way. I thought I may be way to strict by asking you to remove your game when you shoot them, and don't lie to me about what you shot. That will get you booted faster than anything!
-
Not this year ya don't Buddy!
-
I have seen more rabbits, fawns and piglets this year than ever before. I hope it is a good hunting season!

OK, I got everything loaded for tomorrow's work day. Every now and then, I search out for a hunting partner, who I can rely on when I need a hand, or I need help getting a deer out of the woods. In the past three years, I have taken on, and fired 3 hunting partners. I can narrow it down; Moral charactor, willingness to lend a helping hand, following game laws, and, following my simple rules. What do each of you look for in a hunting partner? Am I too strict? What's up"

Every now and then, we all are in search of a "hunting partner", whether it be friend or family. What do you look for in choosing a partner? As soon as I finish loading my Tiller and 4 wheeler (working on food plots tomorrow), I will voice my opinion. What do my TGO friends think?

I agree Troll. I wish they would have announced this back last February when I bought my Sportsman License. Would have bought Alabama instead. I still may ask TWRA for a refund, since all I care about is pig hunting anyways. I have some beautiful deer and Turkey on my land. I just would rather pig hunt....oh well.

My Grandpa and Uncle. My Mom and Dad stayed gone in the Army all the time. -
Just settle down folks. By next year it will all be back to normal. TWRA will be begging us to kill hogs!
-
Get some wiggle worms, wild onions (to juice the worms with), a cold coca cola, some shade on the creek bank, and a man willing to teach his son how to fish and take things as they are. Time together is worth more that any fish will ever be!

Newbie tanning question: can I use pH balanced shampoo on a pelt?
DaveS replied to a topic in Hunting and Fishing
I guess I better tell this story. I'll make it as short as possible, so please bare with me. It was sometime during the summer of 1969. Man just stepped on the moon, and Grandpa was sick in bed (he died a couple weeks later), may he forever rest in peace! I remember we had a garden, and grandpa had a fence up to keep the old Jersey milk cow, goats, mule and chickens out of the garden. Right below one of the fence post, was this here Groundhog hole. Granny (who was robbed and murdered in 1978) used to fuss constently about this "whistling pig" (groundhog) that kept eating everything out of the garden. Grandpa had this very old .22 rifle, single shot, the kind you used to have to pull this thingie back to get it to fire. He used to send me out with that antiqidated thing for me to try and shoot that dad gum groundhog with. The best I could do, was throw a cloud of dust up around him before he escaped back into the hole. So one day, a friend of mine came over, as we was going to walk down to the flint river and do some catfishing that night. Terry and my self was outside fueling our Coleman latern (not dark yet) to go catfishing. Well Granny came out a said, "That darn whistleing pig is tearing up my cowpeas!" "You ain't a going fishing until you get rid of that thing!" So, I got the .22 and of course missed that dang thing! So, I decided, me and Terry could take some coleman fuel, pour it down those groundhog holes, light it and be on our way fishing. So I poured about a quart down one hole, walked a few feet away, and poured more down the next hole. Well, what happened next is really unclear at this date and time, but I lit one of those "strike anywhere" matches (don't you remember shooting them out yo BB gun?) and throwed it down in the opening of that groundhog hole. Ladies and Gentleman....let me tell you right here, right now, those fumes from that white gas must have got all under granny's cowpeas, because when that coleman fuel lit off...smoke was coming off the red clay dirt, what little hair I had on my face and hands was gone. Granny heard the "ka...whoomp" when that fuel lit off and came a running outside. I'm not sure what was hotter....the explosion or Granny! I have not been the same since. Well anyways, a blue fire ball rolled out of both holes, there was a part of a tunnel where the mini nuclear blast opened up a trench that went right through granny's cowpeas! Not good! My grandpa, who used to work for Nasa in Huntsville, said Me and Terry were damn sure not scientist, and should leave such medlings to smarter people. I know to this day, that Granny didn't mean to leave a hand print on my backside, but it's all a part of life. Never got to go fishing that night. Twere'nt in the mood I guess. So, I get to visit the old home evertime I go to Alabama. Ladies and Gentlemen.....it must have worked, that ol' groundhog ain't been seen in 40+ years! Moral of the story...STAY AWAY FROM WHITE GAS!!!! This is a true story! -
I have 200 acres of prime hunting land. Based on TWRA's theory on hogs, Coyote hunting is NO LONGER ALLOWED on my property, because I feel I can control the Coyote population better by NOT allowing the hunting of a NON GAME species.....sorry folks.
