  1. It don't get no better than that!
  2. And he has nerve calling us "bubba".....
  3. I was going to ask the same thing. I know some people "down the road" who wears bed sheets in the back yard around a big bonfire a couple times a month. They were firing a couple rounds late the other night. They were having a "nightfire".....I guess....
  4. Sorry to hear about your friend. Sad story.... All of us just need reminded how fast things can go sour! We pray he recovers well.
  5. LBL is closed to "Open" hunting with firearms. It is by quota hunt only which has a July deadline. There still may be some bow hunting going on, don't know. Fort Campbell is open to bow, shotgun and muzzleoader and is one big PITA to hunt! On the plus side, the Fort allows you to harvest feral hogs while deer hunting. Good luck in your search...
  6. + 1 Timestepper!!!!
  7. I don't trap anymore. TWRA used to announce fur sales and auctions. I believe they were held after the season was over.
  8. I'd like to pitch in and add "ammo availablity". Is ammo for your rifle readily available? I only ask you for this reason. Several years ago, I had the opportunity to deer hunt the Mountains in North Georgia. I had no clue how I managed to "forget my shells". Was using 7mm/08. No stores open no where. However, there was a bait shop there and they had 3 calibers of ammo. 30-30, 30-06 and 12 Guage slugs. The clerk says that's "all folks around here use". The trout fishing was great by the way! In years since, everytime I go into a back country store, I make it a point to look for ammo. It seems the calibers mentioned above reign king! Just something to think about.
  9. Actually, I was just wondering about the deer's legs. I've let deer hang a day or in the past, and can in no way, get the legs to fold under the deer in such a nice neat little package. Kinda wondering how he did it is all....did he break them?
  10. I'm hitting the woods myself. We have let so many deer walk this year, I'm going to try and collect up on one tomorrow.
  11. Well this morning was very different weather wise. Got to the woods and the wind was blowing some. We (my son and I) got settled in to different stands. It started raining "sideways" and was really windy. Well, I had a doe come in on me and couldn't get turned in my stand for a shot. I have indured all I wanted this morning and about 6:45 am my son buzzed me on the cell phone. He had a buck come in on him, and was feeding around his stand. My son, asked him how old he was, the buck deer grunted twice (for 2 years old), then my son put his rage broadhead through both shoulders. The giblet buck went about 60 yards and went down. He has a scrub rack and dressed out at 130 pounds. We should have let him go so the neighbors could kill him, but the freezers are getting bare. My son's nickname is "Bubba" (seriously, that's what I call him).....This buck came off the food plot this morning during blowing rain and gale force winds. What a morning indeed. His neck was swollen and his scent glands smelt really bad! Fine steaks indeed!
  12. They make cool mounts.
  13. Nice buck!
  14. I guess looking at it that way, yes it could be. Either way, they are some fine deer.
  15. Well, while sitting in my deer stand this morning, I had a family of 5 "Possum's on the half shell" milling around the leaves under my stand. This is the first time ever of seeing armadillos in the wild. What a cool experience. I watched them feeding for about 15 minutes, then they went on down in a hole in the ground. Kewl deal!!
  16. In this order.... 1. Remington 870 express 12 guage slug gun with Tasco 4x32 scope. 2. Custom built .50 flintlock kentucky Rifle. 3. Ruger Hawkeye M77 .308. All a man needs!
  17. I'm sure those pictures are bogus.......just saying.
  18. I had the same ideas as you do about 20 years ago. I found the perfect place. 15 years later a very large farm across the street from me is now a very large sub division. My once quite country road is very busy with speeders on a daily basis. Good luck in your search!
  19. Well, Karma being what it is, this fat 7 point scrub fell to the "rage broadhead" at 5:56 pm. 25 yard double lung shot. I guess he "zigged" when he should have "zagged". He followed a doe....bad deal this time of the year! This scrub dressed out at 127 and came off the food plots sniff'in does! Dang women will kill ya everytime! This is my son Rob, with his first ever "bow buck". Awesome...he owes me a steak!!
  20. If tanning a hide "hair on" you can use it however you choose. I nice "rug", a throw on the couch or even a pair of nice "winter" underwear. Your choice. If tanning leather, mocs, shooting bags, leggings, g-strings, thongs....it is only limited to you imagination!
  21. You are correct sir. Bellies and sides also work well for "supple" projects, and backs and shoulders work well for heavy weight projects. If you have a fleshing machine, or are really good with a knife, you can thin down the whole hide and then it wouldn't matter. Alot of times, it also depends on how much you work the hide to get it soft. A thin hide can come out very "stiff" if not worked very well. I hope this helps. If not, ask and I'll explain better if possible.
  22. YW. If you have any questions, shoot them my way!
  23. With some sort of deer hunting now in full swing, lets talk again about tanning your hide. I have posted many articles about this, but one thing comes to mind. Several folks have mentioned that the "entrance or exit" wound was too big to tan for a nice hide. Well, that's not entirely true. Take your hide, tan as per my instructions and deal with your holes in the hide. 1. Take each hole, and on the "flesh side" of the hide, draw in a shape of a "football", with the hole in the center. Using a very sharp knife, cut through the hide, being careful not to cut the hair, and cut out your "football" shaped hole. 2. Stitch the hole closed, and you will never know. 3. The "football" shaped cut will allow the hide to lie flat and no one will ever know!
