  1. Our original food plots were planted with various things, to see what the wildlife wanted. I spoke with a biologist about some things. That's how we came about the cowpeas. Test your soil and lime/fertilize as needed. You can split your plots into 1/2 turnip, 1/2 peas if you want to as it hurts nothing to do so.
  2. Another big problem we had was turkeys digging and scratching up the seed. Once you find ways to get around that, it's all fine. We've also planted milo and collard greens. All we are planting this year is blackeyed peas (cow peas) and turnip. We tried some of those "no till" throw on the ground type of seeds. Those plantings did not survive the turkeys, doves and other birds. If you have a tractor and can plow and till the ground, you will be much more successful.
  3. We have found that Turnip Greens and Black Eyed Peas do very well. Turnip will last year round for the most part. We plant Turnip in early spring and peas after the last frost. Be ADVISED, that as soon as the deer find those "Peas"...you'll replant them 2 or 3 times like we had to. They love them!
  4. Been going. Got some really nice White Bass and some Kentucky Spotted Bass. Rabbit hunting for a few days, and when my tilt/trim motor comes in, I'll be back on the water! Good times for sure!
  5. Unless you're doing the bird yourself, usualy not.
  6. That's good....that way you don't pay 12 bucks for sucky shells. Buy what shoots you! (pun intended)
  7. Fifty is the farthest I've shot mine. Those 3 inch mags of BB and T shot I shoot hit this old man pretty hard. I try to avoid the situation whenever I can.....
  8. 101, I have a 835 and I love it. I put a "Tru-Glo" Extra Long Range Turkey Choke on it. I don't hunt "Dirt Scratchers" anymore, but it works aweful good with BB's and "T" shot on Coyotes.
  9. The darn Turkeys dig up my food plots, and mess up my bowhunting every year....like I said......
  10. Open Hog season.....they're tearing up my WMA!!! They will be on my land soon too!
  11. We got all our fields bushhogged and getting ready to start busting ground for food plots. Now that the fields are mowed, we are seeing alot of turkeys. I say this every year, so here goes.... I HATE TURKEYS!
  12. I didn't know you could read little Buddy! You and your Young'un ready for some Rabbit hunting?
  13. I have some family in Mississippi that I could hunt with, so I spoke with them and looked up the regs. Sure enough, centerfire, .35 cal or larger, singleshot with exposed hammer. H&R, NEF T/C all of them are legal. It sounds like a trip to Mississippi is in order. Oh yeah, one more thing.....Mississippi wants DEER HUNTERS to KILL HOGS!!!!
  14. I've got plenty of experience with .35 Remington. That's one bad *** cartridge. Two hundred grains of hell! I can only imagine that the .35 Whelen would be as good!
  15. No Sir, but I too am also interested.
  16. Sounds like a book a need to read. I remember some of the "old days". I wish I could bring the "people" and "good times" back.....just days gone by....
  17. I like taking the quail, brush a little olive oil on them, season with lemon juice, black pepper and a dash of Rosemary. Wrap in bacon and grill with indirect heat until golden brown.
  18. VERY WELL SAID!!
  19. Patty said it pretty good. Concentrate on one thing at a time, and your hobby/sport will grow with time. Believe this or not, the cheapest deer rifle available today, is a Mosin Nagant. Under a hundred dollars, accurate and deadly on big game! And the game goes on and on!
  20. Greetings Howard, and welcome to TGO. I reload as well, and will be happy to give you a hand. Dave
  21. I have that Rifle in .44 Mag. I love it. The only thing I don't like about it is the safety. Other than that....I love it!
  22. As long as you drive on a County, City, State or Federal Highway, you have to abide by the rules, even if that means searching your car. Just being on the road gives LEO all the reason they need to "Stop" you....like it or not!
  23. Nice Bucks.....and WELCOME to TGO!
  24. Nice Cat!!!!
