You will be required to get the "Hunter Safety Course". Until then, you can get an "Apprentice" lisence good for one year. Spring squirrel is coming up and it might be a good time to make a move on all this. This time of year, I reccomend a shotgun over a rimfire due to foilage. Just get out and get a feel for mother nature. You might just not like it! First and foremost...READ THE HUNTING REGULATIONS!! There are thousands of dollars of money saving tips in there! Happy Hunting Dave

Deer hunting is a good way to start. A 30-06 with the proper ammo (130-150 grain bullet is my preferance) , a good knife, a good pair of boots, orange vest and hat, and any other "comfort" items you may need or want. Hunter safety course, Lisences ect., ect.. I hope your girl friend wants more from deer than just "jerky", because you are in for an expensive surprise! Deer hunting is a fine sport indeed, but it can't be all covered here. Find someone in your area to "mentor" you. It would help us, to help you, if we knew how old you were, did you live in the city or county, any hunting experience at all? We could probably help you a little better with this info.

These folks posted really good information. Research should be your first step!

I ran into a big one about three weeks ago. It was coiled up on a tree laying in the water. I've seen several at the refuge since then.

I'm going to cook a pot tomorrow...no wild turkey though. Thanks for posting this recipe!

Was fishing in the Neville's Bay and Gatlin Point area and heard birds gobble, didn't see them, just heard them.

The WMA's here are wore out from what I've seen and heard. I don't hunt turkeys any more, but my property has tons of them. I really wish they would leave and run-a-way to a WMA! The Refuge I know real well has a dwindling population of birds. Very few left....plenty of trophy class hogs....very few turkeys and NO quail (that we can find)! The problem we have is that feral hogs destroy the nest of ground nesting birds (ducks, quail, turkey and geese) and eat their eggs. Since we can't hunt hogs anymore, this problem is going to keep getting worse. Law makers are going to have to step up, change the hog regs, for no other reason than to protect our other wildlife species.

That's funny stuff! Well, I too have done so many "dumb and/or funny" things it's insane! I'll tell a couple for now... 1.Was squirrel hunting a few years and shot a gray squirrel out of a tree top. He fell, hit the ground, did the "dieing cockroach" thing and things were good....so I thought. While standing and talking to my friend, this squirrel started climbing out of my game vest, crawled up and perched on my shoulder. My friend started laughing, I started grabbing at this p***** off squirrel, when it all of a sudden it jumped on my head. My friend being the clown he is, started raising his shotgun as he was stepping back, saying "hang on Dave, I'll get him"! The squirrel jumped to the ground never to be seen again! 2. Last year, myself, my son and our dogs went rabbit hunting. We took five really nice rabbits. We got home, unloaded my truck in the driveway and got everything ready to pose for some pictures. We layed out the rabbits and my son held the dogs while I ran into the house to get the wife to come out and take pictures. Well, I knelt down next to my son, took ahold of two of the dogs, got the pose just right and as my wife was about to "snap" the pictures one of the rabbits decided he'd had enough of this game. He jumped up and hopped toward my wife....she screamed, the dogs lunged forward pulling me over on my face. The ol' lady heads for the front door screaming like she'd seen the devil himself. The rabbit hops across the yard and dogs attack it raising 10 kinds of hell! There was hair flying from every direction! We finaly got everything under control, and my wife to this day refuses to take anymore hunting pictures, because I have a habit of not making things "real dead" as she puts it. I'll post some more stories later on...

Where to find Mosin stripper clips?
DaveS replied to blahX3's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I bought a bunch off of Ebay, and I'm less that happy with thier performance. I need a good source also. -
I and my friends whom bass fish together, normally release any bass over 5 pounds. Those are your spawners and bass under that are your "eaters". Let the weather stabilize and "slow roll" a chartreuse and white 3/8 oz spinnerbait. I've seen fish in ponds become wary of "shadows" and "hook Shy" of the same od baits over and over. Try something different and watch your shadow cast across the water.

Your neighbor might be right. Most bass are on the "beds" right now, and many have been pushed of because of these back to back cold fronts. Could also be there are no bass left. If you caught as many as you say, that's a lot for such a small fishery.

I don't grow "medicinal" herb persay....just some celantro, sage (for seasoning and religous purposes), rosemary, oregano and basil. I also have peppermint, spearmint and lemon balm. These are used for various ailments.

I raise rabbits as well, and before I learned to keep them seperated, My male rabbits killed the babies. Something to think about.

Gosh, I'm so glad I'm not the only one over burdened here. Sounds like we all need to meet somewhere for a cup of coffee, cold one, and a breath of fresh air!

Friends, I work two part time jobs to try to combat this crazy economy (sp) and I divide every single spare minute to my family, hunting, fishing and a few sips of 90 proof clear liquid, life is good! I wish I had more time for the outdoors, but life is as it is. The retirement life isn't what it should be. What is your priority day to day? Hunt? Fish? Family?

I like Channel and Blue cat, but Blues over 10-12 pound are kinda strong and oily. I've been told that a "flathead" of any size is good. We'll see.... I bought the stuff today for limb lines and have my bait tanks set up for keeping live bait. I'm looking for "Catzilla"!!!!!
