East Ridge TN intruder stopped by armed homeowner.

I probably would have only told him one time to keep his hand outside of the house. The next time he reached his hand in and tried to unlock the door, he would have had his hand bashed or had a 230 gr .45 XTP put through his hand/wrist. He would have moved it then! "We the people", need to stop playing with these idiots! In short, it seemed to work out for the couple! Dave S -

According to your glimpse, where do you think I stand? I have advocated bans and would also support "certain" bans, for "certain" people for "certain" reasons, and will do so here in a public forum. You ain't wrong. You are not mistaken. I was merely addressing MOPED on his use of the phrase "damned hunters". Had nothing to do with an AR or AK ASW ban. Dave S

S&W Shotgun, 1100 model, I think...?
DaveS replied to Steelharp's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Outside of ammunition, it could be as simple as replacing the Barrel Seal (O ring). I shoot with two on the tube with no problem. Some shooters find they have more success using the old style Piston & Piston Seal assembly. Maybe a friend has one you can try off an older gun. Try cleaning the two little holes on the barrel using a small drill bit. Clears out any buildup. Before you start replacing parts, the first question is are you shooting the 1100 wet or dry? Some peoples idea of wet is swimming pool wet and obviously in excess. Cut back on the liquids, especially in cold weather. I shoot my 1100's dry, but with a coating of Breakfree. I follow the directions listed on the container of Breakfree and give a final wipe down just prior to assembly. I've learned that a little (very little) goes a long way. I just place some on a finger tip and apply in that manner. Use a rag if you prefer. I would not spray. Two or three times a year you need to drop the trigger and give it a cleaning. Usually you can get away with just a good wipe down of the trigger group without having to soak it. If you see any buildup it needs to be removed, but don't over do it in regard to lubricant. I had a 1100 a few years ago that was driving me crazy as it would not cycle properly, even after changing out parts. My friend Bob Howard told me to clean the trigger. The gun worked flawlessly the next time out. You have a spring in the stock and one in the magazine. If you've owned an 1100 for a number of years and all of a sudden problems, the springs may be the cause. I would first replace the one in the stock. Reached only after removing the pad. Give the area the spring sits a cleaning while your at it. After replacing the spring in the stock you may have to shoot 4-6 boxes to break it in. Serious clay target shooters may want to consider a yearly replacement. The experts can have you try a few other things, but hopefully you won't have too. The 1100 was made by Remington Dave S -
I see that. I guess it's the phrase "damned hunters" that kinda got to me. My bad, I didn't interprit it that way. Dave S

Sad part is, Native Americans were disarmed every where! I don't guess they had any "rights"? Dave

Man, that's kinda harsh ain't it? I'm a hunter and far from being a moron, and I've never posted that "garbage" online. WOW! I realy wish you would retract that statement! Dave S

Here's some food for thought.... A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY TO THINK ABOUT.......December 29, 2012 marked the 122nd Anniversary of the murder of 297 Sioux Indians at Wounded Knee Creek on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. These 297 people, in their winter camp, were murdered by federal agents and members of the 7th Cavalry who had come to confiscate their firearms “for their own safety and protectionâ€. The slaughter began after the majority of the Sioux had peacefully turned in their firearms. The Calvary began shooting, and managed to wipe out the entire camp. 200 of the 297 victims were women and children. About 40 members of the 7th Cavalry were killed, but over half of them were victims of fratricide from the Hotchkiss guns of their overzealous comrades-in-arms. Twenty members of the 7th Cavalry's death squad, were deemed “National Heroes†and were awarded the Medal of Honor for their acts of [cowardice] heroism. We hear very little of Wounded Knee today. It is usually not mentioned in our history classes or books. What little that does exist about Wounded Knee is normally a sanitized “Official Government Explanationâ€. And there are several historically inaccurate depictions of the events leading up to the massacre, which appear in movie scripts and are not the least bit representative of the actual events that took place that day. Wounded Knee was among the first federally backed gun confiscation attempts in United States history. It ended in the senseless murder of 297 people. Before you jump on the emotionally charged bandwagon for gun-control, take a moment to reflect on the real purpose of the Second Amendment, the right of the people to take up arms in defense of themselves, their families, and property in the face of invading armies or an oppressive government. The argument that the Second Amendment only applies to hunting and target shooting is asinine. When the United States Constitution was drafted, “hunting†was an everyday chore carried out by men and women to put meat on the table each night, and “target shooting†was an unheard of concept. Musket balls were a precious commodity and were certainly not wasted on “target shootingâ€. The Second Amendment was written by people who fled oppressive and tyrannical regimes in Europe, and it refers to the right of American citizens to be armed for defensive purposes, should such tyranny arise in the United States. As time goes forward, the average citizen in the United States continually loses little chunks of personal freedom or “libertyâ€. Far too many times, unjust gun control bills were passed and signed into law under the guise of “for your safety†or “for protectionâ€. The Patriot Act signed into law by G.W. Bush, was expanded and continues under Barack Obama. It is just one of many examples of American citizens being stripped of their rights and privacy for “safetyâ€. Now, the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is on the table, and will, most likely be attacked to facilitate the path for the removal of our firearms, all in the name of “our safetyâ€. Before any American citizen blindly accepts whatever new firearms legislation that is about to be doled out, they should stop and think about something for just one minute- Evil does exist in our world. It always has and always will. Throughout history evil people have committed evil acts. In the Bible one of the first stories is that of Cain killing Abel. We can not legislate “evil†into extinction. Good people will abide by the law, and the criminal element will always find a way around it. Evil exists all around us, but looking back at the historical record of the past 200 years, across the globe, where is “evil†and “malevolence†most often found? In the hands of those with the power, the governments. That greatest human tragedies on record and the largest loss of innocent human life can be attributed to governments. Who do the governments always target? “Scapegoats†and “enemies†within their own borders…but only after they have been disarmed to the point where they are no longer a threat. Ask any Native American, and they will tell you it was inferior technology and lack of arms that contributed to their demise. Ask any Armenian why it was so easy for the Turks to exterminate millions of them, and they will answer “We were disarmed before it happenedâ€. Ask any Jew what Hitler’s first step prior to the mass murders of the Holocaust was- confiscation of firearms from the people. Wounded Knee is the prime example of why the Second Amendment exists, and why we should vehemently resist any attempts to infringe on our Rights to Bear Arms. Without the Second Amendment we will be totally stripped of any ability to defend ourselves and our families.

OK so it took longer to fire the AR than it did the shotgun. Maybe the chick with the AR could have pulled the trigger a little faster! I'm not impressed at all....didn't prove a thing. Dave S -

Since when is making a verbal threat to KILL PEOPLE protected under the first admendment? Walk into any store USA and threaten to start killing people and your First Amendment rights go right out the window, as they give you full opportunity to exercise your Fifth Amendment rights! Threatening to start killing people is a very serious matter in these days and times! Dave S -
I beleive I'll let my NRA membership money do my talking. All of us gathering at the capital is going to do nothing but make us look stupid. Heck, I do that pretty good by myself, I don't need your help in doing so! What I'm saying is...any gathering of that amount of people, some DUMMY is going to do something DUMB! It never fails, it's garaunteed! Dave
