http://www.golsn.com/listings/outdoor_adventure/firearms/492649.html $475 for a '40 calibur[sic] s&w' open the ad, it's a five hundred dollar HI POINT do people seriously think they can get that? or is he confused enough to think the .40S&W caliber makes it a smith and wesson???

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.38_Special there's a .38caliber comparison chart here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.38_Super higher velocity and energy in the super. more knockdown than a 9mm supposedly.

Nice choice again. I just ran into a friend at the range last week and shot his P22. The only complaint I have (which isn't really a complaint) is that I've gotten used to recoil from bigger guns, mostly .45s, so the .22 seems like a bb gun. But after shooting his, I've been kinda wishing I had one. Let me know when you're wanting to let it go, I may be willing to part with one of my shotguns, but it'll take some thought. And it's good to plink/practice with something so similar to your home defense/carry gun. It keeps you familiar with your p99.

Sounds good Dave. I'd be happy to shoot a good one and really 'get it'. And I'm also more than willing to let anyone shoot my guns, although they're nothing too fancy. Until I get this AR project completed...that's gonna be my next baby.

Yeah, I know. I'm not at all stressed about the Tennifer, or even the bluing over it on the Glock, since I don't plan on selling it anyway. And I've seen some killer torture tests on the Glocks and nothing corroded the slide or barrel. I'm more concerned about my other guns like I said. Glock 21 Torture Test - Theprepared.com I did pick up a temporary fake suede/something synthetic Unkle Mike's IWB for like twelve bucks while I was looking at 1911s today. It's cheap and not longterm, but I know it'll work until I figure out what I should go for. What about the leather holsters with kydex for the gun? Like CompTac makes with leather against the body and kydex for the gun to stay in? -
OK, I went to Friedmans while I was around Vanderbilt. And you're right sling, they don't have much in the way of 1911s. I got to fondle a Taurus PT1911 and something made by Metro-something-or-other with 'Firestorm' on the slide. The guy said it was "just like a Springfield GI but $150 cheaper," although I highly doubt that. The Taurus felt nice in my hands, it had some weight to it, some balance, and a nice feel, for lack of better description. Is it the best of the best? NO, but for what it is I understand it is a decent gun. I love the feel of the beavertail, and the safety had a nice solid feeling to it, I don't think it would be bumped off too easily. I'm not sure how I feel about the grip safety in general, as it would prohibit shooting from abnormal positions. I also think new grips would be nice, something with finger grooves. But I'm still kind of unsure why the design is so popular. It's good, but so are tons of other guns. And now I'm looking at something else to feed the gun habit lol.

The round was fired, it 'blew up' according to my friend. He said something flew out of the gun, but he wasn't so sure, and I saw nothing on the outside of the gun when checking it over. So it's just a casing left in the gun, but I Don't know if something is wrong internally. Now that I have an idea to get the slide back, I'll try and sort it out. Thanks.

Good to know for future reference. I'm keeping this one for sure, but I may do some trading around with others. Now I can tell a dealer who wants to knock off a few bucks for the finish over the Tennifer to shove it. -
I'll stand up for the G21sf. I'm 5'10" and 170, and can conceal that monster on my hip in a regular t-shirt. It'll print if I wear a shirt much tighter though. The smaller frame, shorter trigger reach and backstrap make a world of difference for a guy with average hands like mine. I tried out a few different guns in .45 and definitely think trying before buying is smart. Now I've gotta shoot an M&P though, they're comfortable as anything in my hand.

I think that about both of my dad's mid 60s Stingrays. Problem is he doesn't drive 'em enough, and one's gaskets and seals have now gone bad, lol.
-
I've got a buddy with a 9mm that did this. The problem is, it won't budge at all. The slide is still stuck with a casing in the chamber. How'd you get the slide back??? And after examining the leftover ammo, we found a round with a bent, kinda bulging case, so I'd guess it was the ammo that caused it, but who's to say it didn't damage something internally without being able to take it apart and have a gunsmith check it out. Due to that I wouldn't trust my buddy's gun, period. For yours I'd find ammo that ran for several hundred more shots problem free before I'd be comfortable carrying it.

Well that puts it in perspective. And I'm not so worried about the Glock. I'm keeping that one; I like it a LOT. And I just carry around the house for now, likely for the next few months from what I hear about the state and carry permit delays. I guess I'm more iffy about carrying guns that I'm not sure I want to keep, damaging them and losing a lot on resale if I don't keep them. I'm not likely to see that significant damage with such little exposure to a holster, if I'm understanding this. -
Lol, that's sig worthy right there. Okay, so it's partly history, partly form, partly function, and maybe trend. So, looking at longer term interest, is a nice 1911 worth buying? Or should I look at less expensive but quality ones first, like the Taurus or maybe RIA? It's not right at the top of my list, but it's moving up toward number two, after the AR. I think I'll stop by Friedman's on my way into town in a bit, and check out what they have.

Why are so many here and everywhere infatuated or in love with 1911s? Is it the awesome performance and popularity of the gun in the US? Is it the customization available? Is it just preference? I'll happily admit there are beautiful and functional ones to be had, and that they are damn fine mechanically and battle proven. I wonder though if this is all warranted. And I'll also say I've never even shot a true 1911, just some copies with varying functionality, so maybe this is unwarranted. They seem so pervasive that I should have one in my collection. So here's my question: Do you love 1911s, and why or why not?

Ya know, jps, there's plenty of tactical training classes around here in middle TN. The guys at CIS seem good from what i've heard, and are on here. I've been wanting to take something more advanced than the CHL "class" too. I just don't have the money right now. I've been learning from the net, people at the range, and an old ARMY Ranger buddy of mine. If you go to any range when others are there (I go to Cheatham County WMA) people are more than helpful with pointers, but don't expect a full lesson. If anyone here can or would offer discounted classes or sessions, I'd be up for it, even if there wasn't a certificate afterward.

Another holster thread...finish wear

hmm, two good answers from respectable posters going opposite ways...crap. I know all carry guns will show wear, I just want to avoid it as long as possible since I change, buy, sell, and trade guns fairly often. Is there a difference when considering the finish of the gun? -
Do you carry with a round in the chamber?
fizik replied to bubbiesdad's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
And who voted no? Just out of curiosity as to why, unless you've trained to rack the slide when drawing. I used to do that only when I got my Glock and was unsure about the lack of external safety. -

fizik replied to bubbiesdad's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
This is only around the house 'til my permit gets here, so take it for what it's worth. I carry my Glock in condition one, according to that (although I've always just called that 'loaded' or 'loaded with one in the hole'), and my DA/SA guns in condition two. Nothing dangerous about that for me, just the guy that comes in my house without permission . -
So i'm looking for a new holster. Right now I'm got a kydex OWB for my Glock, but I need an IWB for when my permit gets here. I'll probably want new holsters for several guns. I'm wondering whether leather or kydex will cause more wear on the finish on my guns, assuming the same amount of drawing and holstering. If it has different effects on different finishes, does anyone know? I know the tennifer on my glock is fine, but what about the black finish over it? What about blued guns, stainless?

Good read, something to think about...

^^^so true. and i'd be with them wholeheartedly. -
Oh God, don't give 'em any more bright ideas. And strickj, I see where you're coming from, and agree that some may have a legitimate need for this. I also know that those will be a tiny minority. I spent nine months working for a buddy running three of his halfway houses. I've seen this all firsthand, how many will be government subsidized and be content with that? How many will be subsidized and then get back on their feet and give it up? - not many, although when someone I got close to did get themselves back on track it was fulfilling as anything else in this world. The ones just juicing the system make me sick. And maybe you're just playing devil's advocate here, I dunno.

Sounds good. I'm open for all three, er...two. -
How sweet is that? I can dig it; I've never had a chance to play with a sig like that.

Those brushes are nice, but I really don't see how they can be better than some solvent and a rag. Or a pipe cleaner, like sean says.
