Well, as the saying goes, "Is that a gun in your pocket...?" No guy is going to ask that. Hell, you might get some extra looks from the finer species though:D

One ? about a HCP requirement caveat
fizik replied to fizik's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Of course not. I'm just sayin' a lot of people who are upstanding citizens get busted for DUI. They have one two many and drive home, or have a tolerance, aren't drunk, and blow over .08. Or are taking Rx medication with side effects not realizing they're intoxicated. Or even benadryl can lead to DUI. Usually stuff like that gets pleaded down to reckless driving, and I'm not sure if that affects getting a HCP or not. Like my buddy, who's a businessman, ex ARMY Ranger, and family man who made a mistake and got caught. -
How 'bout flood it and turn it back into a swamp. Like it used to be and should be and WILL oneday be.

While I'm still waiting on my permit, I have a buddy who tried to apply and was denied. All because of a DUI within three years. I know that's the letter of the law, he's got to wait now for another nine or so months, but why? I'm trying to think of a reason DUI would disqualify one from having a HCP. I understand being a felon or domestic violence charges and such, but any one of us could get a DUI sometime, and that would be a mistake - a big one, i know, but a mistake nonetheless. If it's habitual I understand it being indicative of one drinking when they shouldn't, or doing things they shouldn't while drinking - and that extends to carrying a weapn. But a one time thing, that was a mistake or whatever the reason - getting a new medicine and not being used to side effects and being stopped can be a DUI. Hell, that doesn't mean somebody's a danger with a gun. Am I missing something here, or am I making sense? Or is it more of a problem than I'm aware of? I work in the court system, and see this stuff all the time, where it will disqualify someone based on some stupid reason for an arrest and conviction. Meh, I dunno.

I was at a car lot looking into buying a new car, and a couple from New Orleans was there buying a new SUV. I certainly hope that wasn't with some damn handout money.

So true. I've always had much respect for John McCain. I think he has a history of being rational, logical, and not leaning too far one direction or another for my liking. I actually think some of the things he's been saying in the last few months are pandering to more reactionary hardline republicans - remember, he has been accused of not be ing conservative enough before. Which is fine with me, I would love to have a neutral party as president some day. But yeah, ditto to what mars said.

lenin, stalin, hitler, mao, several south american governments...and those are all left wingers killing and doing such wrong at a much higher level than an occasional murder or bombing. but in truth, anyone with any political leaning can take their beliefs too far. it's not radicals or reactionaries at far ends of the spectrum all the time, it can be anyone who takes their beliefs way too far.

^^Awesome!! I love that pic, totally. And the guns are nice too.

true. I spent two years there, living on campus. I was across the street when the rapist from New York who raped a woman dressed a a fireman (I can't think of his name, surely someone remembers it) was confronted by a UofM cop and stabbed himself in the neck - not 100 yards from the Richardson Towers dorms. Right up the street by one block full of frat houses, going over toward the local Scootie's convenience store, a guy was running around with a sawed off shotgun robbing people. Stabbings, rapes, thugs running around campus from Orange Mound - it's epidemic.Responsible, legal carry would certainly be appropriate. I had to leave my guns stored at the campus police station, doing no good at all.
