  1. *****Just my opinion, I have not taken my class yet nor am I a legal expert.*****

Just a couple weeks ago, I was driving in Clinton, with my wife. Neither of us was carrying. I was stopped for speeding. The officers question was, 'Sir, are there any firearms in the vehicle?" I was able to answer no.

So, I would believe it would be best so answer the question honestly up front with a yes if indeed there is one, and let it proceed down the path that you are the one carrying and you have your permit.

If the officer asked my wife if there were firearms in the car she probably would have looked at me and asked if I was carrying. I cannot say for sure. However at that exact point in time you were asked. If there had been you would have had to answer honestly if you had your permit and produced it upon demand. You are not "obligated" to inform the police officer unless they ask for the permit however it is a good idea.

Had the officer ASKED then that would be different. IF I am just sitting in the passenger seat and he is talking to my wife - why bring it up?

  2. What if wife w/o permit is driving and not carrying and I am and she gets a ticket? Do I inform?

Personally since I am not in trouble I won't say anything until such time as the office needs to talk with me and maybe get me out of the vehicle.

  3. I have been playing at the guitar for over 20 years - that can't be right. I am not that old.

I have played on stage a couple of times. Never got paid more than a couple pitchers or beer though.

I still enjoy it and recently picked up Mexican Strat since my electric was stripped 20 years ago and never put back together. That one makes me cry as it was a Gibson U2 from the time when the head of Jackson took over making guitars. Only a limited run and I can't find one now for a decent price. Would love to have it back.

I play for the kids these days and am self taught. Guitar for the Practicing Musician helped out tremendously in the 80's.

  4. I am in the market for a new rim fire .22. I know this is almost as bad as AK vs. AR but which would you choose and Why?

    Ruger 10/22

    Marlin 795

Trying to stay in a decent budget as I am actually planning on purchasing 3 (one for me and one for each kid).

  5. The Fresh Market has a seasoning called AWAKE A STEAK which is really good on steak. Has a bit of Coffee in it. Add some kosher salt and you are good to go if you want seasoned other wise skip the awake a steak and just use salt and pepper.

Chicken - too many things to do with it since it tastes like whatever you put on it.

Fish - grill it with salt, pepper, oil, garlic and lemon.

    Pork - grilled salt/pepper.

  6. If you have booze and a few other items, you've pretty much always got marinade. :)

    Try this some time:

1/4 to 1/3 cup of Bourbon

    1/4 cup of brown sugar

8 oz. can of tomato sauce

    1 tsp. salt

    1 tsp. pepper

    1/2 tsp. Dill weed

    1 tbsp. red wine vinegar

either 1 tsp. of garlic powder or a couple of cloves of fresh garlic, skinned and minced.

1 tsp. of onion powder, or a quarter cup of fresh minced onion.

1/2 cup of.... strong coffee. :D

( I make up a half pot of double-strength coffee for this one. )( You can use plain water if you prefer, just to thin the mixture down some, if you're not a coffee person. )

Put all of the ingredients in a microwave safe bowl and heat until hot, but NOT boiling. Once it's hot, stir it until all the brown sugar is dissolved, then let it cool.

Once it's cooled down a bit you can throw it and a 2 or 3 steaks in a gallon zip-lock bag overnight.

The next day, take it to the grill. :D

Oh, and don't be shy about tweeking things to suit you. Use more or less of any ingredient, or even leave one out if you don't like it. ( I sometimes forgo the vinegar, for instance. )

    J.

Good steak doesn't need a marinade. Salt - Pepper and maybe some Garlic and a hot grill and you are good to go!!!! Use Kosher salt please and let it sit on the steak for a few minutes before you throw it on the grill.

  7. my opinion of someone who gets to carry is a person who knows at least a decent amount about shooting pistols and has some experience, not someone who barely knows how how to hold a pistol.

That's the great thing about this country. We can all have opinions.

It is my understanding that the framers of the Constitution provided the 2nd amendment to ALL people not just those with a decent amount about shooting pistols.

Maybe some of the people had never held a pistol but could shoot the wings off a gnat at 100 yards with a .22?

The class is to provide a basic understanding of the LAWS involved in carrying a firearm. It also assures the instructor that the person applying can hit the broad side of the barn when necessary.

Notice there is no "expert" on the range portion only 48 to 50 shots sent down range.

Should you continue to train after the class? Certainly but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be allowed to obtain a permit if you didn't train before.

Should you have a basic understanding of pistols/revolvers? Of course but that shouldn't mean you are not allowed to obtain a permit if you can pass the class.

Enjoy your carry permit if/when you get it.

  8. My otterbox defender is bad ass. Expensive. The sales guy threw his onto the counter, it bounced, hit the floor, aboot 4ft below. I bought it. The reviews are great.

You went to the AT&T store on poplar at Kirby didn't you. The guy there rooked me in to an otterbox as well

  9. Here are the ones I have a HUGE problem with:

Planning future government services. - Really we want to know how many of you there are so we can make government EVEN BIGGER!!!

Forecasting future housing needs for all segments of the population. - Really - I thought it was the builders that would see how trends were going in population and start building houses where they are needed. And what about all of the houses etc. where people have left. What is the government going to do about that?

Establishing fair market rents and enforcing fair lending practices - Market value is not the governments job. That's why the housing market is where it is now anyway. People will pay what they will to live where they want to.

    • Directing services to children and adults with limited English language proficiency. - Not touching this one but we don't have a national language so why should it matter?

Locating factory sites and distribution centers. - Again - industry will dictate where they should build factories and this will dictate distribution centers.

Determining areas eligible for housing assistance and rehabilitation loans. - Not part of the national governments job.

Let's see what the governments job is - Provide for a common defense and settle disputes for interstate commerce. That's about it. Or is about all it should be.

  10. I can hardly even comment any more I'm so exasperated, flabbergasted, discombobulated, and just downright sick over the whole thing.

The oil is bad enough but now the lies, spin, subterfuge, stonewalling ...

Hell, wait and see if down the road the damn variety of dispersants alone will prove to have horrible effects, like two headed grouper ... and children.
