  1. I'm pretty sure I'm right. You dont need a permit to shoot at a range. Which is what I mean by saying people at ranges aren't required to have them.

It is a defense to unlawful carrying if the possession

    or carrying was:

    • Incident to lawful hunting, trapping, fishing,
      camping, sport shooting or other lawful activity;

But if you have a permit and a Law Enforcement Officer demands it you MUST show it is all I was saying. Just because you are not performing an unlawful activity doesn't negate the section of the law that states that you SHALL present it upon demand from a law enforcement officer who is doing his job.

  2. I am a firm believer in "THE RIGHT TO BARE ARMS", however with that said, from day one we all have been taught dont mix alcohol and firearms. In my opinion the law that passed for people with conseal carry permits allowing them into establishment that serve alcohol was a very bad idea. I am a permit holder and i do think you should be able to carry in any place you want but not where there is alcohol. I know this will piss 90% of the people off, but remember opinions are like a**holes everyone has one and everyones stinks but yours.

I am just curious - Is it impossible to go in to a place that serves alcohol and not purchase a beverage?

I have plenty of alcohol in my house that doesn't get consumed if I am carrying. I have been in plenty of places before it was legal to carry but alcohol was served and I did not order an alcoholic beverage.

So to say we shouldn't be allowed to carry there just because they serve alcohol is ignorant at best. That is the same argument that anti-gunners have used for years and in truth it doesn't hold water.

If you don't want to carry there, it's fine. Don't.

But I digress, I don't like buffalo wings so I won't go to any of them.

  3. sure. He could ask. Doesnt mean people there are required to have them.

I believe you are incorrect here.

    Per the TN code:

    (n) (1) Except as provided in subdivision (n)(2), a permit issued pursuant to this section shall be good for four (4) years and shall entitle the permit holder to carry any handgun or handguns that the permit holder legally owns or possesses. The permit holder shall have the permit in the holder's immediate possession at all times when carrying a handgun and shall display the permit on demand of a law enforcement officer.

This law does not state whether you are on private or public property. Only that on demand of a law enforcement officer you shall display the permit.

  4. Actually, as an HCP holder you ARE required to show it regardless of where you are or if you are carrying it or not if a Law Enforcement Officer asks for it.

That's in the law. so is this

    (t) Any law enforcement officer of this state or of any county or municipality may, within the realm of the officer's lawful jurisdiction and when the officer is acting in the lawful discharge of the officer's official duties, disarm a permit holder at any time when the officer reasonably believes it is necessary for the protection of the permit holder, officer or other individual or individuals. The officer shall return the handgun to the permit holder before discharging the permit holder from the scene when the officer has determined that the permit holder is not a threat to the officer, to the permit holder, or other individual or individuals provided that the permit holder has not violated any provision of this section and provided the permit holder has not committed any other violation that results in the arrest of the permit holder.

So even if you are inside your home, the officer can disarm you.

  5. Why would a reasonable person leave cover and give chase when they fear death?

I would say the marines and police officers do this almost all the time but you did say reasonable and I don't count Marines in this light.

Seriously - there has to be something severely wrong with you if you are willing to leave the safe confines of your home and go after someone with a gun that is shooting at you.

As an aside - I have nothing but respect for all of our armed forces and police officers that deserve it.

  6. I must be obsessive compulsive but I check several times before I pull away from the house that I have my wallet on me regardless of whether I happen to be carrying or not. I use a "Money Clip" that has a place for credit cards and identification and keep it in my front pocket.

It would have to depend on the police officer and the reason you were stopped. Likely you wouldn't have your drivers license on you either so they could make you leave your car and walk home or give you a ride down town if they were so inclined.

  7. I am all for property owners rights to post no guns. I have said from the get go that this is how it should be. Remove the "restrictions" on where you cannot carry legally and leave it up to the owners of the restaurant. Owners are mad because the state is making them post their preferences. They used to be able to get by with the fact that the state said no. Now they can't.

  8. Yes, the person ran away breaking off any threat you have. By running after and confronting them you are initiating a new threat. I am not a lawyer but I would imagine that a jury would probably find you guilty of battery at the least and manslaughter at the worse depending on what happens. I don't know about you but I am not Dante Stallworth. I cannot afford to pay off a persons family to prevent myself from being incarcerated for more than 28 days.

A threat to a person that might be inflicted with serious bodily harm who could if they had a weapon of their own be justified in taking a life you are justified if you do it for them. My child - and we are going to fight - my dog or my stereo - I am making a good witness for the police and contacting my home owners.

Sorry - possessions are not worth going to jail over.

P.S. You raise an aluminum bat to me and I am in fear of serious bodily harm or death.

    Enough said.

  9. What if said thief has a child instead of said property? would you still not fire on him. What if the property were firearms... a dog? What is the dividing line?

You are kidding right? A kidnapping vs. taking my TV? I am not going to shoot you over a TV. If you take my child there is nothing that will stop me from chasing you down and getting my kid back. Take that however you intend it.

As for if you are taking my guns? If you are running away you are not a threat to me. If you are taking my dog-well she is 13 years old incontinent and eats really expensive food. I hope you can afford it.

  10. Also to add, if you chase down a person that is fleeing whether he has your stereo or not you are not you are the one instituting the aggression. Hitting him over the head or on the back with a baseball bat could be met with you getting legally shot and killed by him whether he is legally carrying a gun or not. Remember - you escalated the aggression. A baseball bat is a lethal weapon. Several people have been killed by them.

Once a person steps OUTSIDE of my house, the threat is over. I have no more right to fire upon them.

You use a firearm to stop a threat. Once the threat is over you stop using the firearm.

    My 2 cents worth.

And I don't care what Merriam Webster Dictionary says-

    irregardless is not a word.

    Usage Note
    :
    Irregardless
is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of
    irrespective
    and
    regardless
and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative
    ir-
    prefix and
    -less
suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like
    debone
    and
    unravel,
it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so.

  11. Our founding fathers had suffered the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune and cast them aside.

Our founding fathers knew enough to know that they didn't know everything but that above all else it is the free people of a country that will keep the country free.

We have given up our freedoms too many times that our government now thinks they have a right just to take them.
