  1. I remember the first few days after I got my permit. I felt like almost everyone around new that I was carrying a pistol on my belt. Now I don't worry about the other people knowing I have one or not. I try to be as aware as possible of my surroundings to ensure that if I need it I am ready for it.

Situational awareness is the key when carrying. Make sure you know your what's going on around you and try to leave yourself an out of the situation.

I always use an end pump not a center one. When carrying things to the car I always leave my right hand free. If the kids are with me I put them in the stroller if possible, or leave them in the basket until I get to the car. I try to park away from other people where there is room to go either forwards or backwards should I need it. I am not paranoid just as the boy scouts say prepared.

  2. I use a Don Hume JIT holster (no thumb break.) Fobus Paddle Holsters (no thumb break.) and a Don Hume IWB holster that I cut the thumb break off of. Personally, if you are concealing properly and maintaining situational awareness (keeping your wits about you when everyone else is loosing theirs and blaming it on you) then you shouldn't really have to worry about that thumb break. If you are riding a bike (motorcycle?) then get a good holster that takes effort to pull the weapon out. Fobus are really nice for this.

  3. I couldn't be happier with my G19. I went to the store to get a Walther P99QA but when I picked up the 19 and pointed it, sights lined up perfectly and felt like an extension of my hand. I now have it on my hip most of the time sharing the load with my 1911.

  4. How about Sunday March 25th at 1:00 PM at RangeUSA for a "local boys and girls) greet and shoot? They open at 1 so if we all get there when the doors open, there shouldn't be an issue getting a lane apeice. Tell me what you think and we can go from there. If that day isn't good, we can try for another.

  5. When do you local Memphis guys want to hook up at RangeUSA again? I don't get there enough but I think the wife might be able to spare me for a couple of hours on a Sunday in March. I can't get too far out (an hour drive time both ways and then the time shooting would probably be too much) since my wife works from home on the weekends and I watch the kids. Usually I can get out around nap time (noon to 2) so maybe a Saturday at the range?

  6. Sounds like a plan Glock and Z28. It is a shame they had to shut down the range at Shelby Farms. Talk about convenience, it is basically right around the corner from my house. An afternoon of shooting and camaraderie sounds like a good day.

  7. skwashdem, those are all very good points that should be discussed with your rep. Get them to realize that the more laws on the books they put, the more they handcuff law abiding citizens and help the criminal element to know what places are safe to rob, rape, pillage and plunder.

  8. Hey, I may have a Glock, but I also have the 1911 and the Beretta and an S&W. Not to mention the AK, the Ithica 12 gauge and the Stevens Model 87. I am set for a while on firearms though I would love a P3AT and an AR15 hopefully before some liberal president gets in office and royal screws us.

  9. I have to agree with Mars on this one. To tell the police that they are responsible for keeping tabs on each of the individuals with a protective order against them would be like trying to hold back a river with a fish net. It just isn't going to do a darn thing. We as individuals are responsible for protecting ourselves and our families. I would think that if a person has an order of protection against some one and that person comes on the property, the first thing to do would be to head towards where you keep your firearm. Once you have your firearm, call the police and tell them that the person is on your property and that you are afraid of what they are going to do to you.

That is just my opinion. Of course you could always shoot first and ask questions of them later.

  10. Anyone interested in getting together on weekend in March for a shoot? If anyone has land where we can shoot some of the higher caliber rifles that would be great. I have an AK that I am itching to shoot since I haven't had a place to take it since I bought it in December.

  11. Marswolf turned me on to this site since we are both relatively active members on a different firearms forum.

I am a dad to two wonderful children and a husband to an awesome lady here in Memphis. I work for a Tire Wholesaler as a network administrator. When I have free time I like to go to the range (don't we all.) Typically on the weekends you can find me playing with my children and when the weather is nice enough we go to see the polar bears at the zoo. If you haven't been to the Memphis Zoo in a few years, it is definitely something you want to check out.

I am always interested in meeting up with people from this area who have similar interests and hobbies.

Let me know if you are around and I would love to hook up at the range with you.
