  1. No you didn't misunderstand...I never really knew that the Parkway was a "national" parkway. But I think my original statement stands doubly valid. You could carry on it BEFORE the new federal law, assuming you were going from one legal place of possession to another. And now (or actually soon), you could carry on it because of the new law, and not only that, you could carry outside your vehicle in it, assuming you have valid permit for TN, which is also fine for 'Bama. My apologies for not researching the Parkway itself, I really didn't know its status, and should have before jumping in. - OS
  2. If you mean the federal law about transporting firearm from one place to another, I agree. If you mean the new federal park carry law, it would have no bearing. - OS
  3. Hee hee... Well, to me, comparing a Glock to a Timex means you're calling the Glock a cheap POS Incidentally, I don't see that slogan anymore, it's not their website -- so they probably know what crap the product has become! - OS
  4. Well, I don't see how the federal park law change has any bearing one way or the other in a state park, or the roads through one. - OS
  5. I had Timex IndiGlo, perfect watch, but it died after a year..got another one, it didn't last a year. I don't they "take a licking and keep on ticking" since the days when John Cameron Swayze used to hawk them. - OS
  6. Well, I'm actually somewhat of a geek, but must admit, I'm lost as to what to download. Bewildering array of files on there. I see that version 24 is last release, so followed links to: "www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/v24/Broadcom/Linksys/WRT54GS_v5" as I have wrt54GS, version 5. There are still 8 or so .bin files there, with no explanation as to what they are, so have no idea which is the actual firmware to get? Maybe the "broadcom" dir is not even what I should be in? Win XP, but that doesn't really seem to matter? - OS
  7. You mean, carrying in the Smokies? That is NOT dependent on "carry in parks" state approval. Just that you have valid permit from the state in which the national park lies. Also, it hasn't quite taken effect yet? I think it's about the 10th? Also, the Natchez Trace...AFAIK, you could always transport a firearm on it, just like any other road. Federal law allows you to transport firearm from one legal place to another legal place, regardless of what kind of road, in any state. If you are in a state where your permit is honored, you can carry it on your person and loaded. If no permit, unloaded and separated from ammo in locked box. As far as carrying concealed on the Natchez Trace, why not? Interstate highways are also "federal roads" and you can carry on them in TN. I don't think the new national park law has any bearing on the matter, as far as passing through in your vehicle. The Natchez Trace park itself is a state park, though, yes? In which case, again nothing has changed...you can't carry IN it. I take that to mean on your person outside your car. - OS
  8. No personal hands on, but have seen quite a few folks on other forums post their kudos for the various KD models. The Thunderbird does indeed look like a good way to go for both types of carry. I'll usually throw in a plug for D.M.Bullard. Well, guess I just did, he has one holster touted for both IWB/OWB, but both ways use the belt clips, and I do believe I like the idea of the belt slits on the Thunderbird better for OWB. I've never read anything about any lack of durability regarding the KD line. I don't much care for that overlay on the Thunderbird, though. I understand it's to make throat stay open, but also would add thickness for IWB. If I were going to buy it, I'd consider asking the guy if he'd make it without it. - OS
  9. Can't help with the no bang, but I have a Cobra, pretty much same as the Davis. Are you putting that baby on half cock BEFORE you try to close it after loading? If not, you'd BETTER! The reason it won't easily close is because one of the firing pins is still out in firing position, and can go BANG! if you force it closed. (maybe your's can't, if it's broken, but...) Mine is centerfire .38 but I imagine you are seeing same problem with the rimfire, which may or may not have the same degree of danger involved. Since you didn't know this basic and IMPORTANT factoid, I'll risk insulting you and ask, is the bar safety off when you pull trigger? And btw, on my Cobra, it will occasionally fire the top round even with the safety ON. Just another reason these puppies are among the most dangerous guns made - at least to the owner. - OS
  10. To be fair, that is a valid viewpoint for any ice (composed of fresh or salt water) that is already a floating mass. However, much of the heretofore frozen water in the Arctic and Antarctica is land based. Think land based glaciers and ice sheets. Indeed, the frozen Antarctica ice sheet holds 70% of the world's fresh water, and at least half of this is on a land mass, not already "floating". So your drink is getting extra liquid not already existing within it. - OS
  11. Well, you probably need to get the slide back and do lever again, and go through drill again. But if you just can't do that, call Springfield in the morning, see if they can talk you through it. Maybe you've found a way nobody else has to really lock it up, but I doubt it. - OS
  12. Slide doesn't look like it's quite far enough forward to be in battery yet. See this pic...shows recess between slide and frame, yours doesn't. If it won't dry fire, slide is still not forward enough to be in battery. - OS
  13. And does it dry fire? Idea is, once you have it in battery, leave take down UP, dry fire, and remove slide and reposition spring. The spring is still off center, so you haven't fixed it yet. And yes, mag should be out, just as you normally do to disassemble. - OS
  14. I understand. Just still seems to me that given the initial hassle of all the hoops and expense of getting a permit, 1 out 3 wouldn't renew it or have moved out of state. I have no statistical basis for the view, I admit. Of course, don't know anything about how you got your stats either? - OS
  15. See my post. Common happening. No smith needed. - OS
  16. It's pretty common, though hasn't happened to me. Comes from putting spring in off center. Here's the fix: http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/general-hs2k-sa-xd-talk/74463-barrel-ramp-jammed-locking-block.html http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/latest-hs2000-sa-xd-faq-stickies/45123-fix-slide-stuck.html (maybe use this one first, it has pics) Find the one about pulling the spring guide rod in the front, that sounds easier than forcing the slide, but either should work. Apparently if you call Springfield they talk you through the guide rod method. - OS
  17. Sorry for an aside to the thread, but who/where is "Tennessee Reloads"? Googling didn't help. - OS
  18. A trillion here, a trillion there...before you know it, you're talking about some real money. - OS
  19. A realistic consideration these days, I'm afraid. I love revos, but just can't quite feel as secure carrying one, just for that reason. - OS
  20. Wow, your revolver turned into semi-auto. Magic! And your username changed to your real name. You are just amazing! - OS
  21. Clips are okay, but on a 1.5" belt there is some play, as the clips will also accommodate 1.75". The Dual Carry is handy if you want to carry OWB once in a while, but if you do a lot of it, a dedicated OWB holster is better. Speaking of Bullard, I have his BodyGuard also. It's nice, just turns out I'm not going to carry that way too much. It's a fine OWB conceal holster, but note that due to design and cant it really is only optimum for 4:30-5:00, just like pic shows. He also makes the Combat, pretty much straight drop that could be used anywhere.
  22. 19.97 has been the price for a good while on those. Blazer Brass went up from 8.57 to 8.97 per 50 box about a month ago, so still cheaper than the WWB last time I bought any. - OS
  23. More than one-third? I really find that hard to believe. - OS
  24. Good point. I forgot about the conversion. Seems many folks have to tweak lips of the .40 mags for 9mm to feed reliably, though. You are right about the 9mm mags not accepting .40. - OS
  25. Yup, IWB reholstering is stress free. There may be Glock Butt, but no XD Xass. - OS
