  1. See my avatar? http://dmbullardleather.com highly recommended That's XD SC 9 in the pic, but he has it for the 4" Service also. Actually, same holster, just a little longer to cover the barrel. My Service fits in this well enough if I wanted to carry it, but that's why I got the SC. Holster is his Dual Carry model. If you want kydex/leather most folks will steer you to either Crossbreed or MTAC. - OS
  2. Just put first 150 rounds or so though my Service 9 last Fri. Just like my sub compact 9, rock solid, sweet shooter, as expected. Good choice, I'd say - OS
  3. Well, you can order them separately... There's a darker brown, too... I bought a set for my D.M. Bullard, matter of fact. http://www.comp-tac.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=81
  4. Hell, they're just ole camo looking stuff. Like you don't see camo everywhere you look... - OS
  5. I'm not having any particular probs, just some delays now and then, and that might be ComCast itself, dunno; already updated to newest LinkSys firmware, but thought I'd try this DD-WRT, but since I can't figure what to download, guess I won't. - OS
  6. I agree with you and would probably inform in any state, but to be technical within the overall debate, Ohio has "must inform" statute and TN does not. - OS
  7. They aren't classed as National Parks. I refuse to read the new rule on this. I don't even go to the Smokies since college. But I can't believe nobody else here hasn't actually read it and commented. - OS
  8. Well, it's under jurisdiction of the NPS, but they call it "Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail". Probably doesn't matter, or does it? I still haven't read the whole rule either. It's called "National Parkway" on Wikipedia's breakdown of all National "stuff", which is kind of interesting to browse: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_areas_in_the_United_States_National_Park_System But it's definitely not a "National Park". Law may specify all Dept of Interior Lands or somesuch, but dunno. - OS
  9. Who knows, 'nother possible reason, Maori down to 14% of population, more whites and mixed. Less pigment in more folks=whiter skin=more skin cancer. - OS
  10. So, what's the upshot? Can you load both barrels now? Will it SHOOT? - OS
  11. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT: Lyle Laverty, 202–208–4416. EDIT: Oh, I see you DID call Washington...never mind my previous comments , which I deleted. But I'm wondering if NPS is high enough on the bureaucracy to get an informed answer. I was thinking Dept of the Interior. I'm assuming the above number is DOI. - OS
  12. Sigh... Maybe you should READ the RULE, since you won't take anyone else's say so. - OS
  13. That's good, Gutter... Very good, laughed aloud, rare. - OS
  14. It's air cooled, just like orig. VW, so you just need to check the oil now and then. - OS
  15. Well, if you read up on .357 mag, look at ballistic gel results and so on, you'll find that it's a helluva load, actually sort of a "magic round", generally performing better than the physics of powder/bulletweight/fps/etc indicate that it should. It's the reason that .357 sig was created, an attempt to get that kind of firepower into a semi-auto. The .357 sig seems to be a helluva round too. - OS
  16. Preface from the actual Dept. of Interior rule: DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR National Park Service 36 CFR Part 2 Fish and Wildlife Service 50 CFR Part 27 RIN 1024–AD70 General Regulations for Areas Administered by the National Park Service and the Fish and Wildlife Service AGENCIES: Fish and Wildlife Service and National Park Service, Interior. ACTION: Final rule. SUMMARY: This final rulemaking amends regulations codified in 36 CFR part 2 and 50 CFR part 27, which pertain to the possession and transportation of firearms in national park areas and national wildlife refuges. The final rule updates these regulations to reflect state laws authorizing the possession of concealed firearms, while leaving unchanged the existing regulatory provisions that ensure visitor safety and resource protection such as the prohibitions on poaching and limitations on hunting and target practice. DATES: This rule becomes effective on January 9, 2009. FOR FURTHER INFORMATION CONTACT: Lyle Laverty, 202–208–4416. Note that there is still some question re carrying in "Federal Buildings" within the parks. Entire rule at: http://www.snowflakesinhell.com/wp-c...2/e8-29249.pdf in case you'd like to pore through it and see about that. - OS
  17. Hey, I resemble that remark! Whippersnapper. I prefer to point them in the direction I'd like to shoot ! When I do my double back flip double naught 7 quick surprise stance, they point high. And make my shaky hands hurt. Actually, seriously, they always point high for me. It's a pretty common report, not just me. - OS
  18. By who? A federal marshal? A National Park ranger? What was the charge, exactly? - OS
  19. One last mention, again: New National Park rule becomes active on Jan 9th, so don't tempt fate quite yet. - OS
  20. Well, it alternates between barrels....each barrel has its own firing pin, there's a doober (tech term) on lower part of the hammer body using a spring that shifts up/down to strike each. This on the centerfire models, and I'd guess something much the same on the rimfire. I've never handled a Davis, but everything I've read says the Cobra is exactly the same design, they just took it over. My Cobra .38 on half cock, with safety engaged. - OS
  21. On my .38, whichever was the last chamber shot will still have the firing pin sticking out. You could load the other chamber and close the gun without being on half cock. But if you load the chamber that was last shot and attempt to close without going to half cock, you get the resistance, and possibility of discharge. I'd bet this is the reason he "can't load both barrels". Why it doesn't fire when he wants it to seems to be another matter, maybe the ammo, maybe not. - OS
  22. Of course I do, just raving about Timex more than anything And the Glock IS a fine utilitarian weapon, and except for it's rare failures with its unsupported chamber with overly hot or poorly cased .40 ammo, rock solid. I'd own one or two if they aimed where I pointed them without using the sights. - OS
  23. From the horse's mouth at Dept. of Interior: http://www.doi.gov/news/08_News_Releases/120508.html (excerpt): "Changes in the final regulations from those originally proposed in April were developed as the result of public comments. In particular, comments expressed concern about the feasibility of implementing regulations which directly linked the carrying of concealed firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges to the ability of an individual to carry a concealed firearm on analogous state lands. The final regulations remove that potential logistical hurdle." Although I cannot find the exact enacted verbiage of the amended rule on DOI site. But this has already be rehashed in other threads here. Note that the DOI did not make this a peremptory rule, however, as a state can still ban carry in a National Park, but that must specific in the state's statutes. And at least till now, no one has found a state that has that statute. - OS EDIT: if you want to wade through it, here is the actual final rule. I couldn't find it on the huge DOI site, but it is carried verbatim as a PDF from this site: http://www.snowflakesinhell.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/e8-29249.pdf It is identified as: "DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR National Park Service 36 CFR Part 2 Fish and Wildlife Service 50 CFR Part 27 RIN 1024–AD70 General Regulations for Areas Administered by the National Park Service and the Fish and Wildlife Service AGENCIES: Fish and Wildlife Service National Park Service, Interior. ACTION: Final rule. "
