You seem determined to swap a classic quality gun for something lesser. Why don't you just see about SELLING the rifle (maybe here on TGO) and then buying what you want? You at least might come out in better shape all around money wise... Just a thought... - OS

They just don't want to keep rehashing the same ole regarding that. That's why there's a big sticky regarding the badges at top of category page. - OS

I guess the major thing that might affect us and other states is that won't be able to carry in Wyoming National Parks, of which Yellowstone is probably the most visited. You'll be able to open carry elsewhere in the state, but as I understand it, the fairly new National Park rule is concealed only, with permit issued or honored from the state in question. - OS

TNDOS site not updated, still shows reciprocity with Wyoming, so apparently did have agreement. - OS "States with Reciprocity Agreements Alaska Arizona Arkansas Florida Georgia Kentucky Louisiana Michigan Mississippi New Hampshire North Carolina Ohio Pennsylvania South Carolina South Dakota Texas Virginia West Virginia Wyoming" http://www.tennessee.gov/safety/handgun/reciprocity.htm

Yeah, that's what you run into with FedEx, too, see my post above. Their own rules are tighter than the federal regs. I don't find anything like that at usps.com, doing search. The federal law seems to indicate that only "common or contract carriers" need to be notified that shipment contains a firearm, and also seems to be specifically addressing shipping handgun when it says this. As I understand it, USPS is not a common or contract carrier. So, this isn't advice, but me, I'd probably just send it USPS Priority, insured, and not mention what it is. One can print all this online and just drop it off at counter, without even standing in line, using "print a shipping label" from main menu USPS.com menu. - OS edit: I can't believe you actually got somebody on the phone anywhere in USPS system!

Wow, they don't put up with any truck over there. I see mod closed the topic immediately! - OS

OMG. You were serious. OMG. Btw, you post pictures EXACTLY the same way here as you do on DefensiveCarry. It's the same vBulletin forum software. Only diff is that here, you actually see them as you format your post, you don't have to "preview" to see if you got the URL right. - OS

Priority Mailing Boxes are free, including the triangular tubes. Trouble is, most POs don't ever have them. They can be ordered online for free, however. They must be used for Priority Mail, though, not another class. It's also true that you can mail long guns (intrastate only) legally with USPS. Neither FedEx Ground or FedEx Express will deliver handguns OR long guns between individuals, interstate OR intrastate. FedEx Ground will not accept handguns under any circumstances. I don't know what the UPS policies are. - OS

Same here... Apparently they've updated it. - OS

Yep. The 1000 lb gorilla can do as he pleases. After ruining eBay, Meg Whitman wants to be Gov. of California. I think the state deserves her. - OS

You might as well have asked him some medical and financial advice while you were at it - his answer would probably have been about as valid on that as on Walmart corporate planning. - OS

What website? They are part of H&R, now called "HR1871", which is owned by Marlin. NEF Shotguns are here...all the "Pardner" in the left menu are "NEFs" as far as I know. http://www.hr1871.com/Firearms/Shotguns/pardnerPump.asp - OS

Must have been a good long while ago. Due to lawsuits, they can't do that anymore, not for a number of years. Matter of fact, they paid some pretty big bucks in settlements and penalties, and almost got put into the normal bank regulation ranks as a result. - OS

Congrats.. I've got XD service and subbie 9s, might have to get one of those someday too. They're all just remarkable and reliable shooters. - OS

Battle of Athens (another reason I'm proud to be from TN)
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I grew up in Athens...the old jail was still there then, dunno about now... Most native Athenians of my dad's age were pretty proud of the whole episode: <table id="mainImageInfoControl1_tblCaption" style="margin-top: 4px; width: 400px;" border="0"><tbody><tr><td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <table id="mainImageInfoControl1_tblCaption" style="margin-top: 4px; width: 400px;" border="0"><tbody><tr><td>Deputies who Fought the Battle for Ballots Protesters </td> </tr> <tr> <td> </td> </tr> <tr> <td>Original caption: Athens, Tenn.: Losers In Battle Of Bullets And Ballots. From Dept. of State site: http://www.america.gov/st/foraid-english/2009/January/20090130104608dmslahrellek0.2651483.html Obama Provides Emergency Funds for Gaza Relief Funds go to U.N. relief agencies and Red Cross Mideast envoy George Mitchell, right, talks with UNRWA Gaza Director John Ging about relief efforts for Gaza. By Merle D. Kellerhals, Jr. Staff Writer Washington — President Obama authorized the use of $20.3 million in emergency funding for immediate humanitarian assistance to Palestinian refugees and conflict victims in the Gaza Strip, the U.S. State Department said. The announcement follows remarks by U.S. Middle East special envoy George Mitchell, who said, “President Obama has expressed the deep concern of the United States about the loss of Palestinian life and the humanitarian needs in Gaza†at a briefing in Ramallah in the West Bank on January 29. Mitchell is on a mission to the region to show American support for the Arab-Israeli peace process, and to consolidate a sustainable and durable cease-fire in Gaza. He met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and other senior Palestinian officials in Ramallah and Jerusalem January 29. Mitchell met with U.N. relief director John Ging at a U.N. warehouse in Jerusalem January 30. “U.S. government support for humanitarian assistance to Palestinian refugees and conflict victims now totals nearly $120 million in [fiscal year] 2009, including nearly $60 million in Gaza,†the State Department announcement said. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon made an urgent appeal for $613 million January 29 to cover the immediate recovery needs of the people in Gaza for the next six to nine months. He said a formal appeal will be announced February 2 in Geneva at the U.N. Mission. Ban said, “Help is urgently needed, including food, clean water, shelter, medicine and the restoration of basic services. “When I saw the people in Gaza, the destruction and severity of the challenges were beyond description.†U.S. ASSISTANCE TO THREE AGENCIES Of the $20.3 million in new emergency funds, $13.5 million will go to the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), $6 million to the International Committee of the Red Cross and $800,000 to the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. These agencies will distribute emergency food assistance, provide medical assistance and temporary shelter, create temporary employment, and restore access to electricity and drinkable water for people living in the Gaza Strip, the department said. About 1.4 million Palestinians live in Gaza. “Today's contribution to UNRWA augments the $85 million the United States contributed in December 2008 toward UNRWA's 2009 appeals,†the department said. UNRWA is the largest provider of humanitarian aid in Gaza, providing 70 percent of the population with emergency food assistance, essential health care and primary education. “We are working to develop a longer-term reconstruction [and] development effort with international partners,†the State Department said. The relief efforts have begun in earnest following a 22-day conflict between Israeli and Hamas forces. Hamas, a terrorist organization, seized control of the Gaza Strip from the Palestinian Authority in June 2007. The conflict began when Hamas launched dozens of rockets and mortars into southern Israel. Israel responded with an air and ground offensive to halt the attacks. In addition to the aid announced January 30 by the State Department, the U.S. Agency for International Development has provided more than $3.7 million for emergency assistance to Gaza. “Food, milk powder, blankets, plastic sheeting and other nonfood items have been distributed to beneficiaries, and the distributions are continuing,†the department said.
