Well, I have to admit that In A Gadda Da Vida was de rigueur for all us heads at the time. ;) - OS

I was living in Frisco when Sly first took off, think he was still a radio deejay -- they'd play at the Winterland for concert/dance venues, admission one buck. :) And btw, nobody from Frisco calls it that, just not done. :) - OS

I'm old, like Jefferson Airplane, Country Joe and Fish, Sly and the Family Stone, Creedence Clearwater, Stones, Beatles type old. For the most part, I don't know Iron Maiden from Metallica from Judas Priest from Black Sabbath from Deep Purple from ... Somehow just never immersed myself in the 30 years or so of what is now classic heavy metal. - OS

To be fair, it's more about "replica" guns, not just overtly "toy" guns, and only in "public spaces". And there seems to be no criminal penalty for it, and folks can apparently even get them back. So it's not quite as onerous a reg as it might first appear. And I must say that the closing paragraphs of that story are quite disingenuous, all the raving about personal freedom in relation to self protection, ending with the "As we all know, when seconds count, police are minutes away". I mean, c'mon, like you want to open carry a replica firearm for self protection? Gimme a break. The real problem with MA is that it is a "may issue" state for real handguns. I don't know how difficult it is to get one, though. And also, MA doesn't honor any other state's permit. - OS

Or the maker could have put a front sight on it as a proper "survival" rifle should have. :) - OS

Well, we don't have Minority Report enforcement. Yet. But whatever his intent, simply displaying a firearm, even in the hand, without pointing it at him, would have been at least in the ballpark of reasonable. But especially pointing it at him after he retreated and not only that with his standing right next to a bystander/child went beyond the pale. Doing so to the guy is what got the assault charge, and the lady and her child being involved is what got the endangerment one. Both seem fairly reasonable charges to me under the circumstances if I had done it, and since I wouldn't expect any particular leniency just because I'm 67, would seem a bit sexist under the law to give her any either. Though she'll probably get some, and I might too, who knows. - OS

You'd think they could afford to get a decent English translation. :) - OS

You'd have to do quite a kludge to put a front sight on the barrel. - OS

A UPS clerk told you all that? If so, wow, there is so much wrong with her whole statement. - except for hazmat/ormd and similar, no package is to be "marked" as anything on outside, and firearms are never to be marked as such as per both federal law and UPS ToS. - if a package is lost or damaged in the system, UPS will not pay a claim for a package not sent according to ToS, which includes correct shipping class, and handguns are to be shipped by individuals as some form of overnight, period Also, can't speak for UPS but can tell you that handguns sent Ground through FedEx have a high rate of being "lost". The sorters, loaders, and drivers all know the local gunstores on receiving end and notice, know what I mean? And like UPS, since FedEx won't pay a claim for a handgun sent wrong class, well, a certain amount of graft is just overlooked when it doesn't cost the company anything. - sounds like she's saying the paperwork at retail counters designates the item as firearm, which must be included in the scan, otherwise nobody up the line wouldn't know to inspect it, if that's true at all. Course, that whole part sounds dodgy to begin with, as at least in larger cities, must be accepted at a hub to begin with if using retail counter. All of which is avoided by using online payment and label printing. - OS

If she had just showed the firearm rather than pointing it him it perhaps/likely wouldn't have garnered the charge. Pointing it at him once he actually moved away, and while standing next to a bystander was especially egregious, and this was the part that undoubtedly got the reckless endangerment count tacked on. - OS

There ya go. No stamp needed. Just don't let Max Kingery see ya shoot it from the shoulder, and all is good. :) - OS

Must admit that's news to me. Knew some breeds seem better at it than others, but always thought it was an innate ability of the species in general. - OS

is it a good or bad idea to let a 14 year old visit her mom in jail?

Yeah, I figured check kiting as the maximum level of sophistication, if even that. Certainly didn't envision some low level Bernie Madoff. :) - OS -
Wow, didn't realize that "bolster opener" mechanism even existed, that's quite something. - OS

Can't you just load them way down so that they just lob in there and conk them on they widdle noggins? ;) - OS

Yep, my take on SW knives, along with most all the other firearm company branded ones, is that any under $30 are junk and any over $30 are overpriced. :) - OS

Seeing that Glenn is perhaps still alive due to his intervention, but gets snuffed by him too, so this is sort of the one possible I mentioned way back, that if they wanted to get really cute, they'd let Glenn miraculously survive the cliffhanger but then kill him off for sure right after. :) - OS

"Survival" rifle without iron sights ain't worthy of the name. - OS

Pay online and print your own label, drop off at UPS store, no questions, no prob. It seems those rules are only for counter paid shipments, and as long as it's not going between non-licensees and is sent via correct class, you haven't broken UPS TOS, or federal law by not notifying either. Just plop it on the counter and leave. They're more than happy to take it. Or you can pay some extra and have it picked up. - OS

Legal is one thing, actually being able to do it is another. However, if you obey both federal law and terms of UPS/FedEx, there is no way anymore to ship any firearm between unlicensed individuals using either service, period, or even to yourself care of another individual. There is now no way to do same with a handgun, even including USPS. I've done it. Wouldn't recommend it, but, done it. No, I never recommend committing a federal crime either, nor would I admit to having done so on a public forum, but that's just me. :) - OS
