  1. Armstrong votes against ANY HCP expansion bill in any form, as far as I can tell. Won't even return an email, not even with a staffer. EDIT: Hmmm, he voted FOR the loaded long guns and dropping the fingerprint thing at purchase. Mea culpa. Maybe there's hope yet for him. - OS
  2. I've run at least 50 grand through PayPal through the years, starting before eBay even owned it. Never a prob, although you must be careful if selling gun stuff of any kind. You will get a notice if anyone tries to log in on your account name and fails after several attempts, or over several times, or something...I forget just the circumstances...that's normal, and sometimes it's just someone who has a similar name that has misspelled it, whatever. Obviously, if your puter is ever compromised from afar with the right spyware/malware, or even locally by actual person at the keyboard, ANY username/password combo, credit card numbers, whatever, on it is at risk. The most common "hack" is still simple phising scam, where you go to bogus website and enter info yourself. - OS
  3. Especially the stupid knife thing. Technically, a 2.5" folder is same penalty as handgun. - OS
  4. Yeah, I'm a night owl most of the time, and site has been crawling or unreachable often in the wee hours of morning from 1am on... Maybe there's a clue there? - OS
  5. To answer your question, watch the video: the dumb ass has slide back, nothing in chamber, even shows the gun to someone on the side to show unloaded, then hits slide lock forward, WITH A LOADED MAGAZINE STILL IN THE GUN. I mean, like, just wow... - OS
  6. Well, that's normal price for the CCI MiniMags. Most of us are used to buying 500/550 bricks or bulk packs for 19-20 bucks for plinking. Which were 12-14 bucks a year ago. - OS
  7. Wow...32.50/500. I assume this was a cut above the Thunderbolt/Golden Bullet/Xpert bulk packs? - OS
  8. Real crapshoot right now. Cabelas' estimated shipping date can't be counted on at all. Georgia Arms has a good record of actually getting your stuff to you in the time they say, which is now as long as 7 weeks, though. BUT, they are showing "out of components" on their 9mm canned heat, so this is a first, who knows if the 7 weeks can even be counted on, since they aren't even taking orders for that. I did get 9mm Gold Dot HP from them in about three weeks not too long ago, but I didn't get it for target shooting, too pricey for that. AmmunitionToGo gets stuff right out in a couple days through all this mess, but you have to check every day. I just got a bunch of 12 gauge buck and slugs from them in a week (and some .357), but 9mm is about as scarce as elsewhere. All in all, I think "who knows" is the best answer right now. It's worse than ever. - OS
  9. Was gonna mention this in the Bore Snake thread, but thought better to make it a separate topic. Have read here and there that barrels should be cleaned starting from the breech end, and never from the muzzle end. Indeed, some guns, like Ruger 10/22, CAN'T be cleaned from the breech end without major disassembly to point of removing barrel, unless you use something flexible like a Bore Snake. Some of the guys over on RimFireCentral claim you can easily damage the barrel to the point of making a gun much less accurate (crown, I guess?) by cleaning from the muzzle end. So I guess the questions are: 1. Is this a valid concern? 2. For rifles AND handguns? 3. Even if it IS important, with a straight cleaning rod, when you start from the breech of any gun, you still have to pull it BACK from muzzle to breech to remove it, so? - OS
  10. I think we've found the winner of this week's misanthropy competition. - OS
  11. Jeez, Mike...the 911 switchboard there was jammed, people really freaked out, thousands left their office buildings, really disrupted commerce if nothing else. But think of all the folks who lost loved ones on 9/11 and their understandable reactions. I really thought it was stupid, insensitive, disruptive, and even dangerous. It also cost over $320,000. A copy of PhotoShop is about $600. - OS
  12. Again, I've never even held one of their semi-autos, but judging by the build on my simple derringer, I can't imagine that something as necessarily precise as a .380 auto would be a strong suit. Then again, Hi-Points work most of the time, so whadda I know? - OS
  13. Cobra. In Utah. http://www.cobrapistols.net/index.asp - OS
  14. There are 3 different Cobra .380 models. All are extremely heavy for their size. I have a Cobra .38 derringer. It's very heavy for its size, crudely made, dangerous (to user, can fire while loading if not on half cock), has a 50 lb trigger pull, first shot is slow to deploy, second shot almost as slow, and some other minuses. Other than that it's a fine firearm. Admittedly, I don't have a Cobra semi-auto, but would expect quality of build to be similar. Hint: they say no +p in any of their firearms. Plus: my derringer goes boom every time. - OS
  15. Looks like I've switched over to my Kahr in the pocket for the summer....IWB on long sweaty walks is just a bit too uncomfy. - OS
  16. Ummm Top of my head: CNN has Lou Dobbs and Jack Cafferty Fox has Sean Hannity and Glen Beck flunkies, NOT - far from it, they are a constant burr under the saddle of the present admin, I'm sure. - OS
  17. My district reps are totally polarized on gun issues... Joe Armstrong in House: con Tim Burchett in Senate: pro Armstrong has NEVER returned an email or call. Doesn't even have a staffer do it. - OS
  18. Not "lately", but defensivecarry.com had a bout with attacks just before first of the year. Pretty sure I've seen a couple of other admins discuss it but can't remember which ones... - OS
  19. Agree that it was an absolutely egregious act. Surprised it didn't cause a bunch of heart attacks. Maybe they'll do a U.S. Calvary reenactment at Wounded Knee next, or stage a few hundred costumed Klansmen at the next NAACP national convention. Just about as idiotic and tasteless. - OS
  20. Well, you said you took the rumor with a grain of salt. I think the consensus of the discussion was that you should take it with the entire salt lick. Not a flame, just honest opinion. - OS
  21. He's the one with knives built into hands? My hero, if so. And I was wrong...currently have FIVE knives on me .. forgot my multi-tool! - OS
  22. Interesting TGO finally got hit. Several of the major gun forums that I know have had DOS attacks in the last year. Maybe all of them do from time to time. I suppose it explains most of the poor performance issues with the site since first of the year ... if you're sure that the DOS is real, and not just an excuse from webhost. - OS
  23. Amazing the problems you don't have with a well-concealed weapon. - OS
