    Snake!

Okay, I'll (grudgingly) give you that chance in eleventy gazillion. Gosh, if you think of all the other non-descript snakes that could be mambas or kraits or whatever, I guess one's odds get really chancy! - OS
  3. I have XD service and sub compact 9mm, my EDC. I'll have my subbie at the Knoxville show Sat if that's the one you're going to. Several of us meeting at nine, as there were NONE at the last show I went to. PM me for cell phone if you like, so we could hook up if there's not any at the show, you could at least get an XD in your hand. As for the trigger, this "definition" is beaten to death now and then, and the XD and Glock triggers have slightly different mechanical functions when the slide is racked, and when the trigger is pulled, but for all practical purposes, I think it's only logical to consider the XD a single action trigger. - OS
  4. Well, they are the most "accessible"...you need an OED handy to read Blood Meridian. Even though The Road is the "simplest" book he's written, there was an index card of words I was hazy about or didn't know at all (and I have an English degree). Happen to have the card here, some examples: gryke, discalced, sconce, meconium, rachitic, catamites, patterans, palladian, isocline, crozzled (which is still a mystery), and more... - OS
  5. I think you misunderstood my meaning. "39-17-1310. Affirmative defense to carrying weapons on school property. — It is an affirmative defense to prosecution under § 39-17-1309(a)-(d) that the person's behavior was in strict compliance with the requirements of one (1) of the following classifications: (1) A person hunting during the lawful hunting season on lands owned by any public or private educational institution and designated as open to hunting by the administrator of the educational institution; (2) A person possessing unloaded hunting weapons while transversing the grounds of any public or private educational institution for the purpose of gaining access to public or private lands open to hunting with the intent to hunt on the public or private lands unless the lands of the educational institution are posted prohibiting entry; (3) A person possessing guns or knives when conducting or attending “gun and knife shows†and the program has been approved by the administrator of the educational institution; or (4) A person entering the property for the sole purpose of delivering or picking up passengers and who does not remove, utilize or allow to be removed or utilized any weapon from the vehicle. [Acts 1989, ch. 591, § 1; 1991, ch. 510, § 4.] "
  6. All guns carried into the show are supposed to be unloaded and further disabled with cable tie before entry. Obviously, as far as CCW, this is up to the individual to declare. Of course you can carry a cable tied gun around, or wear it in a holster. Possession of weapons during gun show is of course a special dispensation in the law...you could even have a gun at a, gasp, school sponsored event. - OS
  7. Is the zoo considered part of the park? Or do you have relatively compliant posting there? - OS
  8. Really nice of you to take a blind girl out, Cody... - OS
  9. Plate measures just shy of 3/8, but probably that's what it's considered. There was some question as to what this round really was, perhaps was armor piercing to boot? Anyway, my guess is that the same distance (25 yards?) that same round would make it through either of them. Garufa had a real camera, following are more pix of the dastardly deed. - OS

I've always remembered the old saw, "If I'm in Tennessee, it ain't a coral snake." - OS
  11. I shot this fine pistola today. It sure didn't feel like .40 punch...that steel frame REALLY gentles it down. Sweet. - OS
  12. Ah, that's right, y'all were popping away down at the pistol range some before I got down there...
  13. Check out SHOW AND TELL forum...I posted stuff there, hee heee.... - OS
  14. (sorry 'bout quality, all these are from phone cams) So, y'all remember the Road Warrior scene where Mel's sawed off shottie just sputters? He's me with some (at least) 50 year old paper shells that surfaced in Mom's attic. First shot kinda firey but check out the second REAL FLAMER and the next to last SMOKER. The smoker, I could SEE the pellets gently arcing out all the way to the ground, maybe 25 feet away - I could have THROWN them harder and farther, LOL! Here are the old casings...actually the brownish shells in video were even older than the ones in the antique Super X box. THEN, my poor steel spinner target - it's rated for .45/.357 and below, we've shot the crap out of it, just mild dents from .45, 9mm +9, .357mag, etc. So Mike decides to try Garufa's Mosin on it. One shot, one hit - bullet never noticed it as it absolutely lasered its way through. Didn't just PUSH through, perfect hole, raised edges on each side, looked like precise supersonic cutting torch! Closer up: Mike decided he'd finish the poor thing off with the commie bayonet: Mike and Garufa downrange. I soul searched, and held my fire. We were the only 3 Amigos who showed...y'all missed a great day for it, we were there for well over 4 hours, just 2 or 3 other folks there off and on, light sprinkle for a few min, then sun came out .. Guns fired to best of memory: Remington 870 Express Synthetic 7 Round (2) Ruger 10/22's Hi-Point 9mm Carbine Model 922 H&R 914 .22 revolver (2) M1 Garands Mosin Nagent XD 9mm Sub Compact S&W Model 39 9mm IMI Baby Eagle .40 Mike's scoped .22 rifle (forgot what it is) Probably something else I forgot, Mike might have shot is XD .45. Great time! - OS
  15. Over and out, y'all...gotta take Mike .357 to Norris shoot this morning. - OS
  16. I edited previous post, as realized it's not as late over dere..go back and check out the TriMag thingie. Re the welded stocks...they make them both ways. Something about the previous ban on x number of evil parts or something. They started welding them open, then just continued to offer them both ways. I know this is true because I've read it on the InterWebBlogNet Thing. Anyway, you DO have to read the descriptions carefully. A few folks have gotten the wrong thing and posted about it on rimfirecentral. This is the folding one, blued. They also make same in stainless, few bucks more. 17. Got the Butler Creek blued one.... Fit perfectly and locks very well, both open and closed. Can even shoot it folded up with factory mag or the banana clip one. I need to do a couple of Show and Tells. Haven't written up my NBR (naughty black rifle) yet either. The TriMag thing for the factory mags is really nifty, too: http://www.trailtracksand.com/html/more_trail_products.html (bottom of page) - OS
  18. Under the tree on my 12th Christmas. Used, but was shiny new to my young eyes. Still shoots fine: My bud Garufa has one that still looks just about new, mine was stored poorly for an extended time during my checkered past. This H&R .22 was Dad's...I fire it now and then too. Actually, took my HCP shoot with it a year ago, instructor asked if that was what I was gonna carry, lol. I've recently gotten more into rimfire, too. Picked up a Mossberg Plinkster and a Ruger 10/22 and some TriMag connectors for the factor mags and some Butler Creek 25 rounders. Just put a folding stock on it, too, but dunno exactly why. - OS

    Snake!

Good post... If you ever see a cottonmouth with his mouth open, you'll never forget that shade of white, hence the name. It's not just "light" or "white", it's so white it's the complete absence of color, I mean dazzling white. Caught a lot of snakes myself growing up, and kept them. Had a BIG pine snake for about 2 years, they look sort of like rattlesnakes in pattern, even vibrate their tails, very thick and can get quite long. Quite belligerent, too, hiss and strike readily, even though no fangs, certainly can bite. Anyway, when we first caught (her, as it turned out), she wouldn't eat anything, even live mice...me and my best bud took a couple or three wieners and basically crammed them down her with a wooden rod...you could just about hold her straight out, stiff as a board, LOL! Anyway, she laid around for a couple of weeks or more digesting those, and afterwards, she would eat! Anyway, after her "digestion" period, discovered she had laid 5 or 6 eggs. I was coming home from school one afternoon, and as I walked up the drive, heard my mom scream! Kept her in a "rabbit wire" pen on a shelf above the washer dryer, and sure enough, them babies had hatched and a couple were down in the open washer when mom went to put some clothes in. So, let her and her younguns all go in the same woods had found her in. A much wiser pine snake for the experience, I'm sure. - OS edit: to be chronologically correct, I let the younguns go but kept mama pine snake for another year and a half or more, then let her go, too. She got to where I could handle her without her hissing and biting me, too. I'll have to tell about the sleep deprivation study on white mice I did for science fair sometime.
  20. Well, depending of situation, I might try slicing and dicing a bit first. It's still "deadly force", but I've always thought you'd have a better chance of leniency with a blade, if that suffices. "After all, I could have shot him, you know." - OS
  21. Good call! Their control systems could not withstand such powerful virii. - OS
  22. Easier for me than some... Though a pretty big guy, I'm 60 and while far from being in the worst physical shape for my age group, I'm not in the best percentile either, documented bad back and left arm, etc. If I'd known I'd live this long, I would've taken better care of myself ! Point is, I'll not take a physical beating from a superior opponent of any age. I'm afraid it would kill me. - OS
  23. I WISH I could melt some, by merely standing in the rain! - OS
  24. Scattered tstorms, what else is new? We can scatter and regroup, whatever - the rifle stations even have roofs. I just walked back from Kroger in the rain, and I didn't melt a bit! - OS
  25. Well, a little late to be changing IMO...may be some who are going who wouldn't see an update. - OS
