  1. The big scenic ski lift is in the middle of Gatlinburg, nothing to do with the park. There are signs on all the roads informing you that you are entering GSMNP. Once you are parked and on foot in Gatlinburg, which is the way to see the main drag, you won't walk anywhere near the park itself. - OS
  2. Whatcha mean? The Gov. signed it. Only question (to me, anyway) to be totally clarified is when it takes effect. Just remember, can't have one in the chamber. - OS
  3. You seem to have gotten off track. I'm talking about long guns in cars. All of that is about the new handgun stuff. But you are saying the loaded long gun statute is in effect now, right? - OS
  4. Correct. But we had no statute prohibiting it to begin with. - OS
  5. You sure? Version I just read shows July 1. - OS
  6. It comes with one of each mag. - OS
  7. No real help, I know, different gun and all, but same vintage: but I asked $675 on mine as a start, and got $550. But I only tried on TGO. Best advice I got from showing it around to 3 gun stores was that it might have been worth $800 or so on GunBroker, and I was going to try that if it hadn't sold around here. Although I would have put it on consignment for a while somewhere around here first before I went to that hassle. The gun was solid, no rust, but blueing was sort of uniformly dull, and had slight pitting in the barrel. (it was steel, not damascus, had extractor but not ejector). If you want to take the trouble to (free) register, you could ask on the Remington forum, and/or GunAndGame. I got some various advice on those, too. Just posted a pic of it on another thread recently: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/297073-post13.html - OS
  8. Can you slide a bunch of tables together at Hooters? Been a long time since I was in one and can't remember. Seems we need to find a place loose or accommodating enough that we could seat a bunch of folks relatively together. Booth and small table seating ain't very sociable. - OS
  9. Firestorm must be Argentina. See note about the mags at the American distributor's site where "Industria Argentina" is mentioned: SGS FireStorm Firearms - Performance and PerfectionDoesn't it say on the gun, 70below? - OS
  10. JFYI, it didn't burn "down", all still original structure. It was mostly in the kitchen, best I remember. - OS
  11. Just as a tangent...I sold all orig Remmie 1900 (double barrel, made in 1902) about 9 months ago right here through TGO. And the fellow who bought it, got it for his uncle - to shoot! The only thing ever done to it was refinishing the wood. - OS
  12. His point isn't moot at all. You used the proposed bill to claim that it prohibited local banning of carry in municipal parks. Which is not the case, as the part you cited only relates to STATE parks. - OS
  13. I told y'all that burgs of any size in TN would all ban local park carry. I sooo hate to be right on this. May not much matter, though. Whole bill may die. - OS
  14. Bronk....I surely don't know jack about biochemistry compared to you. I don't even claim to know that much about general or specific medical research or conditions. The only reason I know things directly and indirectly related to the science surrounding low carbing is because I'd never paid much attention to diet/weight in my life, until '02 when I quit smoking and gained so much weight so quickly I went into panic mode. It was obvious I had to do something pretty drastic or soon join a carnival as their Fat Man! Hence, I jumped into study of the various "diet theories". Knew I wouldn't keep up with simply counting calories, knew I couldn't succeed at low fat diet, wasn't in a position to really exercise my way out, so almost by default, low carb seemed the best odds. So I really delved into it, as some of the initial scare stories, well, scared me. Oddly, since I didn't know jack about nutrition or chemistry of food groups, I gained most of the weight from (I thought) eating healthy. Since I knew going into smoking cessation that I'd want to eat more, I thought snacking on fruit would be a good idea. Right. Fifty pounds later, I looked and felt like crap. I may still look like crap, but there's 50+ less pounds of it, and feel pretty good for an old fart. (I think. I've never been this old before). All in all, the old saying is true: if I'd known I'd live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself! - Chief Oh Shoot
  15. Exactly. Smart thieves (the ones that don't get caught as often) know that handguns are in cars at Hooters, Red Lobster, O'Charleys, etc etc. Not Walmart. - OS
  16. They have every reason to. There's a chance that "going postal" will be replaced with "going FedEx". - OS
  17. What de hale is with dem bullits, 70below? - SO
  18. Good one. Maybe I should do $5 raffle tickets to see who to will it to! - Oh "Chief Paw" Shoot
  19. Oh, please do, I'd like to hold one, just for the "historical" experience. The gun that (maybe) killed JFK. Yeah, believe me I know. I just thought I'd indulge, since you're so much younger than me. - OS
  20. Dude! Many here wish we had your "problems"! - OS
  21. Certainly, expending more calories than you take in will cause weight loss, with the added benefit of better fitness. That's why our more agrarian ancestors could eat most anything in large amounts and still be "skinny as rails". Actually, getting "fit" often means slower weight loss than merely changing diet, since you are adding muscle while losing fat (muscle weighs about 18% more than fat per equal volume). - OS
  22. Actually "hypOproteinemia" is very LOW blood protein, because the kidneys retain it and pass it through too quickly and seems more common than hypERproteinemia, which as you say, is too much protein in the blood, but generally is more of a liver related conditon. In the former, high protein levels are found in the urine rather than the blood. And actually, treatment still allows moderate protein intake. Blood sugar level is again most important factor in treatment, and sodium restriction, and etc. Certainly, protein expulsion/retention problems are serious, but no research indicates that large intakes of protein causes that, although it is anecdotal medical urban legend, just like "high fat diet causes heart attacks". A healthy body uses the protein it needs and discards the rest; it can't be stored. But sure, blood/urine tests are important and should be part of at least a yearly exam regardless of what you are/are not consuming. - OS
  23. Yahweh is really the Hebrew God, that Christians glommed onto, reason mentioned separately. If you mean actual persons claiming to be God, that's outta my line. Matter of fact this whole tack is outta line for this forum, sorry; I really was thinking we were in off-topic. - OS
  24. Dude! If you can find a few shells for that and bring it to E. TN shoot Saturday, I'd give ya $10 just to fire one round, just to have shot "Oswald's gun." The two guns that have meant the most to me (and that everyone should have) are a shotgun and .22 rifle. - My granddad's Remington 1900 double barrel 12 ga. - My very first gun, Remington Fieldmaster .22 pump Granddad taught me to shoot using both of these when I was 12. Though both have great sentimental value, I sold the shottie to a TGOer some time back. Still have the Fieldmaster, which still shoots great. I also still have Daisy pump BB gun from my youth, too. Even found a replacement magazine. I prolly oughtta sell that, too. Don't diss me, it does eventually make a difference when you have no heirs. - OS
