  1. There is quite a significant difference between the oomph (tech term) of these two calibers. - OS
  2. There has been no consensus. At all. SNAFUBAR rules. Maybe we should just have a picnic. We could BYOB, and not open them. - OS
  3. BORF, you may be SOL unless you want to make an effort to join us in Norris or shoot lesser rifles and/or handguns indoors at Coal Creek. Knoxville (and Chattanooga) both really DO suck as far as having many places to shoot. - OS
  4. Yes, the PDF file is formatted for letter size paper. - OS
  5. Only thing I know of going on is a couple or more of us going to the Norris, Tn. range. Not sure we'll be there before about 11, though. Also, it's $15 for a one day pass, and it's about 25 miles north of Knoxville....would like to meet you, but this may not be worth the effort for ya. Also sounds like a mess trying to GET the pass Sat, as they're having 4th festivities in the little burg. If you wind up by yourself, you can shoot at the John Sevier TWRA range in north Knoxville for $5 per 2 hours. TWRA - John Sevier Hunter Education Center It's the only open to public place I know to shoot rifles except for .22 and other pistol caliber ones at the indoor range at Coal Creek Armory. - OS
  6. Yet TN allows carry with a 'Bama permit. The main "real world" thing that reciprocity affects is when someone moves to TN and needs to get TN permit. In many cases, new residents with a carry permit coming from reciprocal states either do not have to take the handgun course, or get permit for the renewal rate rather than the new permit rate, stuff like that. - OS
  7. He was thinking seriously about turning the 3 firearms we posted into 2 or 3 contemporary serviceable weapons plus some cash. I suggested he join and post, but he's probably reading; if not, I'll point him back to these threads in a few days if he hasn't mentioned it in email. I really DO appreciate y'all's inputs! - OS
  8. Alabama recognizes TN permit. Alabama and TN do not have reciprocity agreement. There is absolutely NO difference as far as your rights to carry in Alabama or for an Alabama permit holder to carry in TN. - OS
  9. You do understand you have to call to get it quicker, right? - OS
  10. Just two hole positon in front and back. I use top hole in front, bottom hole in back, gives max cant of maybe 20 degrees. You can't go any deeper than the top holes or front lip of holster would be below your belt line. Takes 2 or 3 min to move clips to back for OWB. Works okay, but I wouldn't buy it if I was gonna carry OWB even 50 % of the time, I'd get a dedicated holster for each way. - OS
  11. I'm not down there anymore, but he has other detailed pix... As far as "put together", I remember he said that there are three serial numbers on the gun, two of them match, and the one on the side plate thing you remove to disassemble, is different from the other two. - OS
  12. Lordie. To think my taxes pay that idiot's salary. - OS
  13. I WAS being nice. I have to be for 90 days. It's the law. - OS
  14. Thanks for the advice. Between that and the poison PM you sent me, I'm sure I can now turn my life around for the betterment of all mankind. - OS
  15. Good job .. interesting old gun. So, you still haven't shot it? - OS
  16. If every Tennessean who cares about the Univ. of TN at all understood just how badly Lamar raped it for his own purposes in the past, he would never have been elected to the Senate in the first place. - OS
  17. Also, you know how the "advice" from the manufacturer runs: Guns rated for +p, but they suggest you don't shoot them often. Gun jamming from using hollow points? Use ball. Jamming with ball? Use a different brand. "Oh, you weren't using that aluminum cased stuff, were you?" Your gun is almost certainly over or under lubed. "You probably haven't shot it enough to break it in" (the round count is variable). Some customer service agents sound like the worst of 'puter tech support. Manuals can be a hoot: some warn against discharge from dropping with weapons that wouldn't fire if dropped from airplanes, etc. Heck, most manuals strongly state to never even store or transport a loaded weapon period. If you adhere to that, you'd couldn't even use their product as a SD weapon at all. I'm surprised there is aren't disclaimers included like, "optimal operation from this weapon can be achieved by never loading or firing it". - OS
  18. My answer comes from the that fact that if 870/Mossberg dry firing or leaving cocked had adverse effects it would be widely known. 60 years of military, police, and civilian use would reveal a fact such as this and it would be widely disseminated. I would also expect it to be in the user manual, which it is not. - Oh "still not a professional opinion" Shoot
  19. There is no penalty listed in the statute for not issuing in 90 days. Any number of folks have NOT received their permits within that period. Maybe you should run over there and start making some citizen arrests? - OS
  20. Maybe it was the heat, wow, whew... Seriously, though, I found several threads where all of a sudden I got, "not authorized" screen, then go back, refresh, I was logged in again; couple of times trying to post, I'd go to preview the post, zap, not logged in, lose the whole post, etc. Friend had satellite connection, if that relates. - OS
  21. I don't get it. Start with empty chamber. If it's "cocked", dry fire it. Load the tube, leave the safety off, you're ready to rack and roll. If this is all to keep from dry firing one time before loading up, it won't hurt the gun, really. - OS
  22. Hey back, dizzie...I don't know for sure but I've seen estimates of around $250 or so absolute tops. You can get a brand new Charter Undercover for prolly around $350 that's rated for +p; I wouldn't shoot +p through these older models. - OS
  23. Thanks for info...the model is definitely Commercial Artillery and it's for sure 8" barrel. He had only measured the "exposed" part of barrel, not all the way back to breech. - OS
  24. Yeah, really. I'm such a Jonah they even cross state lines and rub off on others! Heck, I "broke" my 10/22 today, and that's pretty hard to do, eh? - OS
