  1. I recommend the LDS approach, a year's worth of food/water/medicine/etc. If I were younger and had a family, I'd certainly do that. As it is, I'm settling for 3-4 months worth and a bug out location. And yes, I hope this is tin foil hattery. Trust in God, but row away from the rocks. - OS
  2. County/city parks is Sept. 1. Sounds like Nashville parks will probably all be posted by then, though. And Memphis, and 'Nooga, and Knoxville, and ... and... and.... - OS
  3. I see it can be set for 20", 24", and 27" lengths, presumably without additional add ons. So, what's the deal with Class III and the 20 and 24 inch configs? Gotta get a couple of stamps or something? And when you buy the rifle, you already own those configs, so wouldn't that a violation to own it before getting the stamps? - OS
  4. Yep, I have quaffed from it in the past, too. - OS
  5. You are my double naught Jethro super secret agent hero; I always feel safe with you. - OS
  6. Well, if you decide to do it, the deal is, you have to stop at Norris Police Dept in the center of "town" and get the one day pass, and extra money for key deposit, and then go BACK by there to turn in key. But you won't need to mess with key if you can meet us at entrance to range or something. But we don't want ya to "cheat", as they are pretty hard on you if caught without pass and also on the one who let you in! The main glitch is that they are having 4th festivities right there on Sat. Norris is a "village", there is school and activity fields right there by PD and they act like it will be a bear to park and get to the tiny PD itself. Surely seems one could park SOMEwhere and walk a block or two, though, but I dunno. Anyway, I think we're going to try and hit the range about 11. PM me and we can try to fine tune it for you if you decide to go, swap cell numbers or whatever. Like Mike, I'm gonna go up today or tomorrow and get yearly pass - I did it last year and wound up using it 6 or 7 times over the year, so the $30/year was well worth it. - OS
  7. Actually, many springs on private property were mapped many many years ago, and even have names. Is that on US Geological Survey maps or something? I disremember. Somehow I had it in back of mind the county nuked that one somehow? I'll have to stop and see next time I go by it...I know I haven't seen anyone there filling up in some time. - OS
  8. I couldn't afford $5 doves in the 70s. They'd cost me $10 each now. - OS
  9. Even though I'm all leather for IWB/OWB, I agree that Kydex is great way to go for pocket carry - the thinner the better. - OS
  10. Then again, I might not post any less. - OS
  11. OMG. I'm #13, and I've only been on here a year! No wonder I've not gotten jack done since I retired. I'm not going to post any more. - OS
  12. Many pro drunks can actually function a lot better than a drunken you. - OS
  13. Well, the carry part defines "restaurant" as opposed to "not restaurant", but "bar" is not defined. However, all "bars" have a "restaurant" liquor permit. But beer-only places don't. Oh "concealed well is well concealed" Shoot
  14. Half a pound is a significant consideration for any kind of carry. For pocket carry, half a pound is huge! - OS
  15. Well, they've obviously not mastered them yet! After some pretty big hoopla on their site, they aren't even mentioned now! - OS
  16. Although the new booze/carry law DOES define "restaurant". - OS
  17. Yah, they and he are good. I must admit that I have a TT Gunleather on order, though. I'm really enamored of leather belt loops, and wanted to try the TT design. I bought David Bullard's leather loop additions for the Dual Carry, but yeah, the way the holster is designed, the arm that holds them just makes them too thick and bulky for me. I'm still using the metal ones myself (need to change avatar photo showing the kydex clips I experimented with). - OS
  18. Yeah, I wanted one more wheelie myself, always thought I'd maybe get a GP, but have decided on Blackhawk .357/9mm, if I ever find one. Ruger revolvers of any kind are really aces. Btw, I've actually been finding WWB .38 again at some Wallys ... I picked up some .357 cowboy loads at last gun show from Georgia Arms, as .357 still hard to find, and none of it is cheap. - OS
  19. Can tell you that Knoxville city water keeps fine for at least a couple of years stored topped off in pretty much anything that doesn't disintegrate. Chlorine, you know. I imagine that most "city water" is about the same. 2 liter soft drink bottles do nicely and I also keep a month's worth of water in the Aquatainers (4x7gal.) Most "canteens" any more have plastic container as the core, so would be the same. Actual metal canteens are generally aluminum, I guess, so should be fine, too. 16 drops of bleach per gallon kills most bacteria and protozoans, but doesn't get a couple of really nasty ones (that you won't get from city water no matter how long it's stored, anyway). Have read several studies that claim that if you do boil water, as soon as it boils at all is plenty good enough for every known pathogen, no need to do a "3 minute rolling boil" or whatever. I'm going to pick up a Katadyn Pocket filter in my next series of purchases...good for around 13,000 gallons! Also gets all biological baddies from bacteria size and larger. Note that it does NOT get virii, though. Note also, that none of the above makes water safe from many chemical contaminants, either. - OS
  20. Or, we have a depression like the '30s. Except unlike then, we'll likely lose a third of our population, and it would likely be similar in many other countries. Things would probably swing to the right in a hurry. Actually, that might be the only thing that keeps the US viable for another 233 years or so. - OS
  21. That's the reason. Printing AND comfort. And not just this particular holster, but ANY holster like it. I tried several different ones early on. Some folks like single attachment in the center, but even if it's comfy, it of course MUST add thickness, whereas dual attachments on side "wings" do not. I think most of those who wear them have just never invested in a better design, which usually costs a little more. Then again, opinions are like ... well, you know. - OS
  22. I dunno. The SP101 is a mighty fine .38 too. Just too heavy for pocket for most folks (including me). - OS
  23. VERY private on this one, since there is no poll. Additional thought: What level of judge would it take to GET an injunction? I assume we're talking TN state judiciary here? Would that be an appointed or elected judgeship? Just wondering what judge would like to take on the wrath of the majority of the TN Legislature. - OS
  24. How do those carry handles on AR's work as to the open sights? Meaning, don't they block the rear one, or is the rear sight built into the top of the handle or something? Oh "obviously don't know ARs" Shoot
  25. I have several of David Bullard's holsters (see avatar of EDC). Excellent functionality and craftsmanship, fair price, and you can get them in a month or less. However, I don't recommend ANY IWB holster that has single attachment at already thickest part of gun, including David's. - OS
