  1. You wear a belt with overalls? You must make quite the fashion statement at the Co-Op. - OS
  2. I never really thought about it, but can "lowbase" (I guess same as "low brass") shells not hold as much powder or something? What makes them inherently less powerful? - OS
  3. We'll have to see whether they post them or not. The Greenways are a peculiar mixmash. The part down Sutherland past Forest Blvd. was just expanded a little on top of the previously existing sidewalk, and there is NO other way to walk down that street. Not only that, but it goes through the front yard of Bearden Elementary near its terminus. The third creek section is not even all owned by the city of Knoxville, and I think some others are too. Some sections are still private land that have been free leased to the city. Some sections are jointly owned. Some are city owned. I think the section from Fulton Bottoms Field to Neyland is all UT loaned/leased/whatever, but not considered UT property, although the field itself is. It's a mess for sure. Oddly, I've heard nada about Knoxville's intents as to all the various parks. While most cities of any size have already acted or have announced plans to, not a peep that I know of yet from our City Council, or County Council, or whoever the hell would make the decision. - OS
  4. left to right: pic 1 is Mike357 and Garufa 2 is Garufa, moi, and Motasyco's best side Those are Mike's arms either steadying me or trying to steal my cell phone from under my shirt. - OS
  5. Yeah, I left mine stock ugly instead of fake Beretta Storm ugly. Hope you get out with us again soon. - OS
  6. I assure you, NOT a lesson...I was only trying to pick up a pointer or two from somebody who can shoot! Thanks for the pix! - OS
  7. Another extremely enjoyable time at funky ole Norris today. Motasysco and BlackBeltChick brought lots of armament, thanks so much for the shots with the Carcano. Besides the historic nature of it, it's really a much sweeter shooter than I had imagined. BlackBeltChick shook down her new RIA, and lemme tell ya, any bad guy that crosses her is gonna get accurately stiched with that heater, she can indeed shoot it! Mike brought estimated 125lb 1" steel plate, and unlike the 1/4", we had nothing do more than stongly dimple it. 125 yard trek with dolly to set it up. I was impressed, though I think maybe we should have EMT present in future. Perfect setup system for it is evolving. It only took three of us + a section of rebar + 10 minutes to open a big tin of the Czech ammo for the Mosins. My car is not put together as solidly as that ammo tin. Watched FtnCityFatBoy pepper same nice grouping with my XD 9 SC as he did with his XD 9 Service, so I'd imagine there's a subbie in his future. Garufa helped me sight in my scope on the mighty Plinkster (pretty clear he's our best shot) and now glad I went high end on the scope - the $16.95 was well worth it. My new Marlin 1894 .357 continues to be a joy; even in my unsteady hands with open sights, can pepper a plate at 50 yards pretty well, and it does better with bipod or in hands of real shooter of course. Most senior fellow there was gentleman with a neat variety of .22 stuff including that German machine gun pistola, three letter German company G__? (see edit at bottom). Nifty indeed. He was most impressed with my Hi-Tech Hi-Point NBR (Naughty Black Rifle) and when he learned it was only 200 clams, vowed to get one. And anyone who has Butler Creek steel lipped long mags for Ruger 10/22: I ran all four mags with the WallyWorld Federal bulk .22 flawlessly so that's now the official ammo for that. And that's the report from Lake WoeBegone ... - OS edit: the "machine gun" pistol I couldn't think of is the GSG:
  8. One of the most knowledgeable sources re older guns I've ever read, have always enjoyed your posts...even though you're outta the state, don't desert us online, and GodSpeed back physically as well. - OS
  9. In this context, an inclination to think or react in a certain direction. It seemed as though you were both espousing the notion that law should champion morality but somehow not address its opposite. As for your rather detailed explanation, thanks. I get it, though I disagree with your and (I'm pretty sure, the majority of TGOers') take on abortion. But that's even further off topic than we already are, so back to Comrade Obama's New World Order Health Care Socialist Agenda. My statement about that echoes my first post in this thread - if it's going to happen, I hope I get a better deal than I can find now. - OS
  10. Ok, I yield to your overwhelming statistical proof. - OS
  11. I just don't get your bent. Defining "morality" also defines "immorality". Legislation by/of either is legislation by/of the other. - OS
  12. I call BS on that statement. There's no diff between Glock and XD quality and reliability. Individual preferences for feel, pointability, and features are the only significant differences between them. - OS
  13. TN requires 12 shots each at 3,7, 10 yards and 12 more at instructor's option, which is usually one of those distances. Target is human sized torso, 70% hits required. One who has never even fired a pistol should be able to pass, as long as they aren't afraid of the thing too much to hold it steady. And by the way, any gun will do, even a .22. edit: sorry, it's 3, 7, 15 yards + instructor's choice. Total 48 rounds. - OS
  14. Well, you have to have permit to CC in Nevada, but of course the part about "brandishing" wouldn't seem to be right since OC is allowed without one. - OS
  15. OpenCarry.org lists Nevada a a "gold star" state: "Fully preempted open carry permitted on foot and in vehicles without a license; localities fully preempted." - OS
  16. Rats. Historical shooting postponed again! Looking forward to seeing you both, regardless. - Mac
  17. I profit about $150-300 per year by using one. Universal Card kickback. - OS
  18. So morality shouldn't be legislated, but morality should determine law? Umm, well, er, hmm.... - OS
  19. Ah yes, Ty is right up there with the great philosophers. "To be is to do"-Socrates "To do is to be"-Sartre "Do Be Do Be Do"-Sinatra
  20. Most any single stack 1911. But I don't own one - life's all about trade offs, eh? - OS
  21. Judge Smails: '... I'm no slouch myself.' Ty Webb: 'Don't sell yourself short Judge, you're a tremendous slouch.' - OS
  22. John Sevier, Norris, and Coal Creek are the only ones I know. Others?? - OS
  23. They said that a year ago. I assure you the temps they claim to have hired back then did NOT help. But there's no doubt that with a call around 30 days or so, most folks are getting their permits MUCH faster than a year ago. - OS
  24. 4.75. I'm coming, but I'm not all there. - OS
  25. If you mean federal, that's true for the most part, but you won't find federal law in TCA. State, county, city must post. There are some TWRC rules concerning guns, too, but I think most all of those have now been negated, except some questions about Army Corps of Engineers land? Also, National Parks carry doesn't go into effect till this coming Feb. - OS
