  1. I didn't realize East Ridge was a town, thought it was just a section within 'Nooga proper. - OS
  2. Yeah, thanks, I think you're right. Couldn't find thread, but I didn't search too long. Don't think it was "bad" ammo per se, but sounded like they'd need stronger spring or something if they were going to rely on it. Never did hear the upshot of that. If Todd doesn't see this thread inna day or so, I'll try to remember to PM him a pointer to it for his comment. - OS
  3. Bought some .357 mag and .38 special cowboy loads couple of gun shows ago from Georgia Arms. Both are round nose flat point lead bullets, 158 gr. I knew they were low powered (they both claim only 800 fps). I'd been shooting them in my new Marlin 1894 some, and able to hit paper plate hand held at 50 yards about half the time hand held, and most all the time steadied (this with open sights). Well, just so happened that last Sat with the boys, I had gone over to the pistol range and fired a few chambers' worth through my SP101 and I couldn't even HIT the pie plate at 10 yards maybe 1 out of 5 times! Was shooting with BlackBeltChick and we had sort of intervened over there, so didn't stay long enough to really suss it out. I shot a quick mag through my XD SC from same place and they were all grouped pretty nicely, just to prove I hadn't gone blind or something. So I didn't get to shot it anymore to really suss things out until today. So, sure enough, 10 yards, I finally put a big target up, start shooting the cowboy loads, and sure enough, they are all over the place. I mean, we're talking a FOOT or more from 10 yards! At random. High, low, left, right, whatever. I even used a monopod to rest barrel on and couldn't get two shots in a row anyway near each other. So, an older (than even me) guy comes up and says whatcha testing and such, and says that yeah, cowboy loads do indeed go all over the place, and especially with a short barrel (my Ruger is 2 3/4") there's no telling where they'll hit. Sure enough, I hadn't shot the .357 Golden Sabers I leave it loaded with, and bingo, all were adequate toward plate center. Same with some WWB .38 I also had. So, long story short (too late), any of you folks noticed very decided inaccuracy from cowboy loads? I can't imagine what you could do to load a cartridge to MAKE it that bad? Or maybe they do okay enough with longer barreled revolvers that the cowboy shooters use? I don't really know anything about the size targets they use during competitions or anything. - OS
  4. I was shooting my (stock) HP 995 at range today. Guy asked if it was some foreign model gun (I said, yes: Ohio) and if it was legal (16.5" barrel). He did agree that it was ugly. - OS
  5. A LEO on here, I can't remember who, might have been from over at Hero Gear's stable?, posted a thread where the local force's XD .45s were stovepiping with a certain round they were testing. Pretty sure the gist was that the round was too hot for the factory spring, and the slide coming back to battery was actually too quick for the previous round to eject. By the way, I'm leery of "+p+" labeled 9mm. There is no SAMMI spec for it, and 9mm already has a lot of pressure. - OS
  6. I can't believe you make a statement like that. The XD is as much of a "duty grade" weapon as Glock and MP. Indeed, the XD (as HS2000) is actually USED by an army (the Croatian military) unlike MP or Glock. It is also used nation wide by Croatian police, and who knows what other European agencies. In America, any number of PDs use XD, (admittedly, not perhaps highest profile ones like NYPD or LAPD) and the XD is often on the short list of weapons allowed for personal carry by off duty LEO's, where a mandatory list is implemented. The Glock is certainly not warranted or supported by a top tier American manufacturer either. But maybe you don't consider Glock a "duty grade" weapon either? Matter of fact, our own US military uses a pistol that is not warranted or supported by a top tier American manufacturer! I wouldn't have probably even commented on the statement, except I was so amazed to see it coming from you, David. - OS
  7. That's David Bullard Gun Leather, Concealment and Cowboy holsters, Azle, TX. Highly recommended, I have FOUR of his holsters. Have worn the XD in avatar daily for about 9 months now. When I got the first one about a year ago, could get in less than a week, and he was even doing eBay. Now he's about a month and my guess will keep getting longer. I have a TT Gunleather on order to try, only because the one thing that David doesn't really offer is a pure belt loop model IWB because of the nature of his design, and I've always wanted one. - OS
  8. Reading another forum, Kevin did state he's shutting down. No details given. TT Gunleather has risen to premier holster maker. The bad news is that Tim is already up to 4 months turnaround, guess will soon be a year like some of the other ones crafted from tanned unobtanium. - OS
  9. Highly sophisticated acronym: Bad Guy. - OS
  10. You can carry in TN and 34 other states, just as before. - OS
  11. Well, once you own one, the "Produckt Karlovac - Croatia" on the slide and "Made in Croatia" on the frame really ought to be a slight clue, eh? - OS
  12. Isn't there something about that arrangement that can also jam up? - OS
  13. Hi-Points are impervious to normal visible wave lengths. You have to use tactical ultraviolet lighting. - OS
  14. Yeah, it's a "i've got good news and bad news" kinda thang. - OS
  15. You don't have to clean a Hi-Point, just shoot it till it locks up or the barrel rusts in two. Then send it back to BeeMiller for a free refurb. Cheaper than buying the Hopps over time. - OS
  16. No, not for a long time. The Springfield Armory of today (Geneseo, IL) was/is not connected to the original Springfield Armory (Springfield, MA). XD's of course, are made in Croatia, Springfield is the importer. - OS
  17. That was a followup picture thread. The shoot was at the Norris range, you'd be more than welcome of course. here was the lead in thread: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/events-gatherings/24204-east-tn-monthly-shoot.html - OS
  18. I kinda doubt I would have bothered with notifying the LEO in that situation. During a traffic stop I would, since likely to run DL anyway. - OS
  19. Yeah, 10-30 second delays. Over the last week or so. Happy Bday, David. My age, you dread them, sigh. - OS
  20. Oh Shoot

    GSG AK47

All that gas block stuff is just AK simulation, right? Meaning, these are still just straight blow back actions? - OS
  21. A lot closer than I would have bet. - OS
  22. There is a section in Patriots where one of the heroes wets down the ground area around the muzzle just for that very reason. - OS
