I think that's the logical way to precede. Also, even if there is a "no firearms" clause in the lease and you're found out, that doesn't necessarily mean they'll enforce it. Depends on how place is managed, who runs it, all kinds of stuff. Though my apt. complex doesn't have the guns thing, they do have a number of other no-nos that I openly violate. One of those, "who you are" kind of things .. many rules are in place for liability purposes and many aren't enforced unless they want to get you in general. And of course, this doesn't just apply to rental properties, but to many aspects of life. - OS

Yeah, I've heard others state they've "heard" of a case like this; have yet to see one documented. On the other hand, the strength of a lawful contract is traditionally quite solid. Of course, anything's possible through the various courts. The only thing that is certain is that the justice you receive will likely be proportional to the money you can spend. And of course, in a case like this, the actual damages you can prove are likely way under the cost of the "justice", unless your case is so compelling as to receive a big time punitive judgment. But the Knox Country sheriff will not stay an order of eviction on "2nd Amendment" grounds, so you'll be handling any legal proceedings from different digs in the meanwhile. - OS

Assuming privately owned housing, if it's in the lease, then yes they can legally require it. It's not a criminal offense, of course, but one can certainly be evicted for it. Simple contract law...no different from "no pets" or "only one car per tenant", whatever. - OS

(re "safe action"): well, I guess I really meant the trigger part. XD has the middle "safety" built in like Glock. As far as the selection you quoted is concerned re "single" vs "double" action, many feel that it's archaic to classify striker fired guns in those terms, even with a striker fired oddity like a Taurus model or two where you can indeed re-strike an unfired round without racking; I'd think that should be called "double strike" capacity. Anyway, whether the XD is "fully cocked" as opposed to a Glock "mostly cocked" is really splitting hairs. Both still have drop safety engaged, which is not released till trigger is depressed, neither will fire out of battery regardless of trigger/grip safety state. And most importantly, whatever intricacies are involved internally, they are transparent to the user - all you need to know is that when you pull the trigger they go bang. Reliably, in the case of both. The extra grip safety on the XD has always been a comfort for me when reholstering, and the old saw against reflexively grabbing for a dropped handgun, the danger is reduced with a grip safety. And one last thing about the grip safety: hey, John Browning thunk it up, so who am I to diss it? - OS

The first round chambering prob is common: you using slide lock release to chamber first round? Do it. In the manual, and often necessary for a good while, especially with the 7 rounder since more pressure on the spring. Far as not locking open, compare the tops of the followers in each mag...look the same? The 7 rounder SHOULD lock open. Does it lock open when you hand cycle the slide? Another possibility is the mag lock...they made them from polymer for a while and then metal. Could be that it's not holding the longer mag firmly enough for the lockback to occur, but that's doubtful...most common symptom of that is that mag drops during firing. You shouldn't have to worry about pinkie pressure..mine works okay... I have two of the 7 rounders, we can test in your gun on Oct 11th if you're going, or if you're really hot to test, can mail you one or something, lemme know. - OS

Oh, I don't think that's a very fair description. XD has same "safe action" trigger as Glock, drop safety is still on until trigger is pulled fully, etc. And of course, Glock has the shorter initial trigger pull, too. While there may be a slight mechanical diff between them in how the striker is actually finally released, I don't think there's a whit of difference between them as far as how they work user wise - if slide is racked, they both go boom when you pull the trigger. The XD grip safety is no more "needed" than a grip safety on a Glock. Indeed, just as on a 1911, you can remove it, and it's still just as "safe" as a Glock. - OS

As I mentioned, round capacity is the big trade off....if you're comfy with 6+1, then no worries. I wasn't, because of where I live and my lifestyle, so that's why I'm not relying on my Ruger revolver or Kahr PM9 daily. - OS

Well, now, to be fair, the .40 SC only holds 10+1 with the flush mag, which is the way most everyone will carry it, otherwise they wouldn't have wanted the subbie in the first place. It does indeed hold 13+1 in the extended mag, which of course is the same one that fits the service model. - OS

Ditto. All the double stackers are gonna be about the same thickness - meaning, chunky. I had narrowed it down to G26 or XD9 SC. There isn't 1/8" diff in any dimension and same thickness... XD gives you 13+1 now in the short mag, though, plus the grip safety was a big plus in my consideration. Others see it as a detriment. You get into single stack guns like the even smaller PM9, and you're in really an even different league. It's even more concealable. But now you're only carrying 6+1. And though my PM9 has been 99.9% reliable,even through the recommended 200 round break in, it still HAS failed, unlike my XD. - OS

I understand that miniaturization demands smaller tolerances and whatnot, but I feel that good engineering should for the most part at least take the very slight standard deviations in factory ammo in stride. Witness my Kahr PM9. Though I can't claim the same 100% as from my XDs, it's very close to that, and none of the few glitches have been ammo type specific. - OS

Doesn't chafe me any. You're just emphasizing the point I was trying to make, that you shouldn't have to "find the right ammo" for your gun, as far as reliability is concerned. - OS

Somehow I just can't buy that. Maybe if I didn't own two XDs. 500 or so through one and 1500 or so through the other. At least 7 different brands of FMJ, maybe 10 brands of HP. 115 gr up through 147 grain. Round nose, flat nose, hollow points. Brass case, steel case, aluminum case. Reloads, factory loads. Shot 100 right out of the box through each on purchase day, just glanced in barrel to make sure was clear. No FTF, FTE, stovepipe, jam, whatever. Never one glitch. Not one. - OS
