Yeah, I understood what you meant. Metal or kydex clips can work fine depending on style of clips and if they are off central part of holster...lots of good makers use them, like Bullard..but I admit I like leather loops more, and for that one reason alone I tried a new TT Gunleather IWB, which I love. I need to do a review of that. That one you have coming looks very serviceable to me...that front strap location caught my eye when I first saw one of these online a couple of years ago...I see he has improved upon it, and worst case I see you can get inexpensive replacement if necessary. I do like the idea of the front loop needing no extra leather area to hold it, while the back loop is attached to flat extension area for stability. I think it'll be a keeper. - OS

Only FEDERAL government buildings are blanket off limits. This is by FEDERAL law. State, county, city are not off limits unless they post like any other business. - OS

Sorry, didn't catch that is was for revolver...no, probably won't matter nearly as much as for a semi-auto, looks like very little of body of gun before grip touches one's side. Especially with no exposed hammer. - OS

Before we see a meltdown that would be severe enough to actually turn the US into a total barter economy, we'll lose 50-75% of our population, so if one don't have a couple of years of survival goodies for all involved and a plan to protect them, one isn't likely to be around for whatever economy that does evolve. But at that point, I'd imagine that entire guns would be generally too valuable for anything but huge deals. I'd think that ammunition might be more convenient, like doling out a dozen .22LR for food, etc. But again, in another possible scenario, if truly TEOTWAWKI happened as quickly some project, there might actually be a glut of guns and ammo around. - OS

Yep, agree, although I wasn't really asking a question, just pointing out the differences in the two parts of the statute. The most unfair part of the second part is "non-student adult". So students, of any age, can't legally have an unloaded weapon in the car. Part time students count, like adult education courses taken at night, etc.? It's just another asinine statute. Why should students who are old enough to own a firearm not allowed to possess them on equal basis of someone who is the same age but not a student. Absurd. Of course, students may be expelled from Tn colleges for possessing firearms legally under the law, just as employers may fire folks who also are not in violation of the law. Also absurd. - OS

Well, for a loaded firearm in vehicle, for which a HCP must be had to be legal, he's right. However, there are two situations whereby firearms are legal in a vehicle on school grounds. There are TWO sections in the schools statute 39-17-1309. b-1 is in regard to "intent to go armed". Defense is having an HCP and not handling gun while dropping off/picking up passengers. Presumption is that weapon is loaded, seems. Penalty is a felony. c-1 is exactly same wording but without "intent to go armed" Defense is simply leaving non-handled weapon in vehicle by non-student adult. Presumption is that gun is unloaded as per legal car carry for anyone. Penalty is a misdemeanor. This is as per the law. It does not prevent your employer from making its own rules and abiding by them, including firing you for non-compliance. However, your employer cannot have you charged with a criminal violation. - OS

Well, none of this helps OP, of course. He's only gonna be able to carry handgun that conforms to hunting regs. Although as already mentioned, as far as self defense, if you already have a big bore rifle or shottie on you, why worry much about having a pistol too, seems to me. - OS

That's all for hunting. HCP carry is a separate issue, legal in all state parks and as I understand it, all wildlife areas of any description that are managed by state of TN. I'd say TWRA is simply going to address hunting issues on their site, and since they'd prefer the law were not as it is, simply not mention HCP carry. The state parks system HAS acknowledged the HCP carry exception on their site though. - OS edit: okay, good find on the HCP quote from TWRA, FallGuy! I was pretty sure it was a separate and legit carry issue.

What if you are not hunting, have no hunting license, but are simply walking/hiking. Or maybe accompanying a friend who is hunting? Actually, I thought the new statutes allowed a HCP holder to carry his weapon in most all areas now, with Corps of Engineers owned land still gray. - OS

FFL: Federal Firearms License/Licensee FLF: ? FTF: "Face to Face", often seen in private legal sales. Well, at least seeing a current one proves that you're selling to resident of your state. It is not legal to sell to say, a Kentucky resident just because you are both in TN when you do it. - OS

Well of course you should know I'm a big fan of David's work. Glad you find this model of his stable, but of course it is thicker in the middle than one with offset attachments - carrying an already thick gun like my XD, extra thickness is the last thing I want. - OS

It is not an offense under this subsection © for a nonstudent adult to possess a firearm, if the firearm is contained within a private vehicle operated by the adult and is not handled by the adult, or by any other person acting with the expressed or implied consent of the adult, while the vehicle is on school property." - OS

I think you're ok on caliber, but pretty sure there's a 4" barrel minimum, at least for large game. But you should ask the hunting question in the hunting forum. Carry of any handgun is now permitted in most places one would hunt with HCP, but that doesn't concern you yet, and even so, I guess that would still be a violation if one intended to hunt with a handgun that didn't meet TWRA length/caliber rules. In your case, pretty sure you could only be carrying a handgun if it were okay to use said handgun on whatever game was in season where you are carrying it and of course you had a hunting license for that game class. Again, though, ask in the hunting forum, they'll set you straight. - OS

Wrong URL, FYI... I've always thought their stuff looks pretty serviceable, assuming you get a model with bodyguard.. their cut rate one without it that they've sold on eBay would be a no go for anyone who carries without an undershirt, especially in the summer, seems to me. - OS

Often debated topic. The gist of it seems to be: - It's perfectly legal for you to keep gun in car. - It's also perfectly legal for employer to terminate you for breaking its security rules (or for most any other reason that isn't discriminatory by federal definition). - OS

I tried any number of off the rack IWB holsters back when, including that Galco Stow and Go you're using...I found that anything with a single attachment point just wasn't stable. I also found that anything that attached in any way at the already thickest point of the holster/gun was unsuitable. Even though it generally makes the entire holster larger in surface area, having two clips/loops/whatever, off the middle body of the holster makes the affair thinner for less printing, and more stable; also, most allow for at least some degree of adjustable depth and/or cant. - OS
