We only had right to carry in National Parks two months or so, best I remember. - OS

I'd call it a gift from a pig. Difference between a chicken and a pig regarding breakfast? A chicken was involved, but a pig was truly committed. - OS

Pretty wild. Is there any historical precedent of a TN enacted statue being overturned by a TN court? - OS

Just discovered that these are now sold from Ruger website, same $9.95 price, don't know what shipping is. The maker, Alangator, is also offering them a little cheaper from RimfireCentral website to registered members. - OS

Though the only rifled slugs I've ever personally shot have been through cylinder bore shotguns, there was recently a fellow shooting some slugs through his new Rem. 870 Express next to me with standard 28" barrel, which comes from factory with modified Rem-Choke (screw in) as standard. The conventional consensus is that modified choke or less is fine for slugs. Meaning, it's more a matter of accuracy than safety, as tighter chokes than modified may affect the already so-so accuracy of rifled slugs. Or not. You'll find some testimony that a full choke will INcrease rifled slug accuracy. YMMV. Obviously, there is nothing inherently unsafe about shooting a slug through a screw in choke, since they make rifled choke tubes especially FOR sabot slug use, although these are generally cylinder bore diameter. IF there WERE anything unsafe about shooting any kind of slug through any diameter choke tube, there would be big time safety warnings from both shotgun and ammo manufacturers. There are no such safety warnings. - OS

Oddly, the target hammer didn't make this one as nice as it did on my other 10/22, but it's still a lot better than the factory 10/22 clunker. - OS

Guys, it's perfectly legal for a non-student adult to have a pistol stored in car on school property as long as it is not intent to go armed, meaning unloaded and ammo not readily available. Anybody, HCP holder or not. So unload the weapon and separate ammo before you get on school property and stash it in car. 39-17-1309 ©(1) It is an offense for any person to possess or carry, whether openly or concealed, any firearm, not used solely for instructional or school-sanctioned ceremonial purposes, in any public or private school building or bus, on any public or private school campus, grounds, recreation area, athletic field or any other property owned, used or operated by any board of education, school, college or university board of trustees, regents or directors for the administration of any public or private educational institution. It is not an offense under this subsection © for a nonstudent adult to possess a firearm, if the firearm is contained within a private vehicle operated by the adult and is not handled by the adult, or by any other person acting with the expressed or implied consent of the adult, while the vehicle is on school property. This differs from ((1) which has same wording with addition of "intent to go armed". And there is no exception for possession in car under that part. - OS

Thanks, I'll be sure and bring gun. It's on there pretty well, I think. I can't take it off right now unless it falls off, though. - OS

Dang, that pistola has mystic properties! So does Suntzu, though. Good match. - OS

Appreciate the advice on that, bro. Works well. Yeah, and ya know, that doesn't get hardly ANY liberal media coverage. Well, lemme see: Not counting basic carbine itself ($199.99) To get the "look": Stock: 85.00 (Cheaper Than Dirt) See through rings (Gander Mountain): 16.00 Scope: 38.00 (Amazon) Muzzle Break: 20.00 (CTD) BC Steel Lips Mag: 28.00 (Midway, I think, everybody sells them) Bipod: 38.00 (WallyWorld) To improve action: Volquartsen Target Hammer: 37.00 (Midway) Volquartsen Extractor: 8.00 (Midway) Bolt Buffer (Yellow Jacket): $4 (eBay) - 30.00 selling the factory stock on TGO ----------- $244.00 (plus various shipping, but always bought things with other stuff) or less than $200 without the internal improvements (regarding flash suppressor): Gotta watch it on this stupid thang. I read comments on CTD about it, folks saying that Allen wrench that comes with it is slightly too small. I put it on and even though I read the comments, sure enough, wrung it out before getting it tight. Called company that made it, "big surprise to them", they sent me two more set screws and two more Allen wrenches for free, felt like good fit, but sure enough, just as I got it on (hopefully tight enough) wrench slips freely. I tried every Allen wrench on it I have, but maybe there IS a perfect size and I don't have it, dunno. Anyway, recommend finding exact fit wrench or finding another set screw before even installing, as I believe the screws themselves may be out of spec, not sure. - OS

I have Cobra .38 derringer. While it's not the most pleasant .38 in the world to shoot, it's not too bad. Doesn't fly out of my hand or anything. - OS

Just to show that my (NBR 2) Naughty Black Rifle 2 doesn't prove me totally insane, I do also have another 10/22 that looks rather normal. Bought hkusp40cal's stainless 10/22 some time back. Had Simmons .22 Mag 4x on it. An oddity is that this is serial number 252-xxxx, and the Ruger site shows serial numbers jumping from 252 to 253, no mention of 252. Anyway, it's from about 2000-2001, and has all metal trigger group and etc. It had a Ruger "boat paddle" stock on it, which I didn't much care for, but found that it was somewhat rare and desirable among Rugerites, so just eBayed it for about $80. I replaced it with the Hogue overmolded, added Wally's bipod, Volquartsen hammer and extractor, and a bolt buffer. Odd thing is, the hammer makes this model a little lighter and smoother pull than the other one I posted. The other one is modern plastic trigger housing, but don't really see why that would make a diff, as all the internals on both are metal, of course. Anyway, it's a nice shooter, and you sure won't loose your grip on that rubberized texture on the stock. - OS

So, I caught the Ruger 10/22 bug in the last 6 months or so. I'm sure that come The Meltdown, the critters will all band together to hasten our demise, so without getting totally carried away I put together this RLMED (Rodent, Leporid, and Marsupial Eradication Device): Took a stock carbine, sold the birch stock of it, added: - Butler Creek folding stock (easier to sling carry, muzzle down, when quickly evading groundhog flanking movements) - Volquartsen hammer and extractor, bolt buffer (need to be smooth against the critter hordes) - John Masen muzzle brake/flash hider (can't let them squirrel and rabbit scouts pinpoint your position) - Bushnell 3-9 x 32 scope (need to pick them off at a distance, all is lost if it comes down to mano a mano - "Winchester" bipod (precision head shots are a must, especially if the critters have been bitten by zombies) - See through scope rings (when running around in the hedgerows can't afford for broken glass to put you out of commission against possums and whistlepigs) - Butler Creek 25 round banana mags (hey, more is always better!) - OS

Not "evil" but certainly "naughty". Been meaning to catch up on some stuff to show, here's my 50 yard ICBM (Inner City Bad Mutha). It's just a plain jane Hi-Point 995, didn't add anything, as didn't want to detract from its natural ugliness!: I like it a lot, really do. The rifle has been 100%, the mags are the weak part. First time ever shot it, Mike .357 and I ran every kind of 9mm we could find: ball, hollowpoints, reloads, etc. Mixed them all up. Could NOT make it misfeed or eject. Then I loaded up my five mags before next trip and started getting some feed ramp jams. Hmmm. Mike and I polished feed ramp. Still intermittent failure to feeds. Hmmm. Reading up on things, discovered that by using an Uplula mag loader, I had spread the feed lips on the mags. The mags are all metal, but are pretty thin metal, and the metal plunger on the Uplula spread them some, as they are single stack and you have to be careful to center the loader. So now that I know to tweak them back together, all has been good. If anyone made a 25-30 round mag that actually works, they'd make a fortune! Don't know if many of you saw it, but here's Mike .357's model - it's the Hi-Point 995 TS (Tacticool Stock) he picked up at the last gunshow we attended. (great pic, btw). It comes stock this way, although he added the fore end vertical grip. I'm not sure whether I prefer the Old Ugly or the New Ugly! - OS

Promised I'd add my review some time ago, and finally got around to taking a few pics. First, let me say I'm still a big D.M. Bullard fan. I have 4 of his holsters, 3 Dual Carries for different guns and one BodyGuard (OW). But I've always sort of wanted one with leather belt loops instead of metal clips. The Bullard clips are very functional, just more of an aesthetic bent on my part. David does offer some leather loop add on for his Dual Carry, but I found them a little bulky on my already bulky build, since they use a additional upright piece of leather to attach to his design. Your mileage may vary though .. PM me if you'd like to buy my pair (in black). So, I still highly recommend David's work. One big plus is that you can GET a holster from him in about a month. When I first started recommending his work a year ago or so, it was more like a WEEK or less, but folks have "found" him now. Anyway, ordered a TT Gunleather (Tim Thurner). I got the Slim IWB "Mike's Special" which doesn't have a reinforcing band or any kind of trim. I've now worn this EVERY DAY for about 10 weeks now and in short, this holster is GREAT. Just like David's work, Tim's is great too. The TT is stiffer, while David's is more supple, but they both fit the gun perfectly, and were ready to rock right out of the box. Didn't have to wiggle, or saran wrap, or stretch, or anything with either one of them. The TT stays open quite nicely for re-holstering. The Chicago screw mechanisms that hold the loops lock in place, no swiveling, so you can even add a little more cant to the affair, even though the normal cant is already probably 20 degrees. Only drawback? 6 months, almost to the day, even though his site said "about 16 weeks" when I ordered. You can look on his homepage to see what order date he's currently working on. I see that he's now saying "20 weeks", but looks like he's still really on the 6 month turnaround: TT GunLeather High Quality Leather Gun Holsters Cost is another plus, though, as the the whole shebang was about 90 bucks, and that includes a second set of belt loops I got in 1.75" AND shipping. In short, it's hard to believe that anyone makes much better products. Though I haven't owned a Milt Sparks, I just don't see how it could improve on this. I HAVE handled a Broomeland, and for at least a couple of reasons prefer the TT Gunleather. One, the Broomeland was so tight I couldn't get the XD in there at ALL. I understand his theory on making them tight to loosen up, but wow. The other thing, the Broomeland has enclosed muzzle, rather than open. I'm not a fan of that. Sooooo, highly recommend TT Gunleather - assuming you have the lead time to wait, you can't go wrong. - OS

DeMint Introduces “Term Limits for All
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I've said it many times, was one of the great omissions by the Founders (to call for term limits). The idea of the career politician just never occurred to them. Likely would have changed they way America looks dramatically. - OS -
Many, if not most, modern rimfires are safe, both pistols and rifles. All .22 Ruger pistols and rifles are fine to dry fire, for example. - OS

Doesn't hurt it AFAIK, just that it's been demonstrated that shooting shot out of rifled barrel is relatively inaccurate. It tends to make the shot pattern swirl and clump, so you could actually miss whatever's in the middle of your point of aim! - OS

Welcome, gal. Permit can take up to 90 days, but more than likely no more than 60 lately. If you'll call to check on it after 30 days (if you haven't already received it), they'll usually issue it as result of your call, if you don't have any background glitches. - OS

I STILL don't know where you got it. It's wrong. There is no mention of "plain sight" in the TN weapons statutes. Indeed, I repeat, it is a VERY BAD IDEA, without a permit, and a pretty bad idea WITH one. AFAIK, closest TN statues come to mentioning how a weapon may be carried in a vehicle without a permit is: "39-17-1308. Defenses to unlawful possession or carrying of a weapon. — (a) It is a defense to the application of § 39-17-1307 if the possession or carrying was: (1) Of an unloaded rifle, shotgun or handgun not concealed on or about the person and the ammunition for the weapon was not in the immediate vicinity of the person or weapon;" Another statue addresses carry long gun in car WITH a permit, but again there is no "plain sight" mention. edit: Mods, might want to move this to the appropriate forum if it turns out to be much of a thread. - OS
-
Don't know where that's from, but that is NOT specified in TN statutes, and indeed is a VERY bad idea. (the "plain view" part). - OS
-
Handgun Carry/Self Defense probably get more views. But it's pretty simple. Without permit, handgun and long gun same rules. Must not be "readily available" for use to avoid possible charge of going armed. Not exactly defined, but obviously, - UNLOADED - Gun and ammo separated as far as possible. Best if gun in trunk, ammo somewhere in passenger section. - If no trunk, separate far as possible, certainly in that case a VERY GOOD idea to put gun(s) in locked case(s) of some sort. Alternately, could lock up ammo but not guns, as would also show "not readily available for use" but the locking up the guns makes situation less scary looking (legal term). It is of course totally up to LEO who they might charge with going armed, but procedure above will certainly almost negate that happening unless you've done something to really piss off the LEO. This pretty much applies nationally, as it is legal by federal law to transport your weapons from one place where legal to possess to another place likewise. Only way to have loaded handgun or long gun in car legally in TN is to have HCP. SOME states allow loaded guns in cars without permit in various ways. - OS

You will NOT find any magazines on eBay. If you do, it's an auction from a newbie that will be shut down before it ever closes. - OS edit: oops, pretty old thread, just noticed.
