  1. I only can cite the law itself: ------------ 39-17-1308. Defenses to unlawful possession or carrying of a weapon. — (a) It is a defense to the application of § 39-17-1307 if the possession or carrying was: (1) Of an unloaded rifle, shotgun or handgun not concealed on or about the person and the ammunition for the weapon was not in the immediate vicinity of the person or weapon; ----------- To my knowledge, there are only three other mentions in the weapons statutes regarding guns in cars besides this one. - non-student adult can posses gun (unloaded) in car on school property - HCP holder being able to have (including loaded) gun in car while dropping off/picking up - HCP holder may have loaded long gun in car If there is any mention in statutes of having guns or ammo locked up in vehicle, please someone point it out and I'll (not unheard of) eat some (more) crow. - OS
  2. While locking one or the other up is a good idea IMHO, but neither guns nor ammo are required to be locked up by law. "Not concealed on or about the person and the ammunition not in the immediate vicinity" are the only provisos in the statues. - OS
  3. Clarification: While it's IMO a good idea to remove any chance of an illegal possession charge, TN law does not require that either the gun or the ammo be locked away in any manner whatsoever. - OS
  4. That (in)famous gentleman is (or has been) a member of TGO best I remember - I disremember his user name, though... - OS
  5. Admittedly difficult to deal with fanatic munks. Watch out for suicide bombers promised furry virgins in heaven. - OS
  6. Best thing is delete cookies for TGO only, sometimes get corrupted. You can delete cookies for individual sites in FireFox, but AFAIK you have to zap ALL cookies in MS Internet Exploder, so you lose other automagic log ins and whatnot too. - OS
  7. Good recon, but I think you need to capture one and sweat him for intel. - OS
  8. Georgia Packing says ankle holster okay (underlines mine): "...law does not permit, outside of a person's home, motor vehicle, or place of business, the concealed carrying of a pistol, revolver, or concealable firearm by any person unless that person has on his or her person a valid license issued under Code Section 16-11-129 and even then the person may only carry the pistol, revolver, or concealable firearm only in a shoulder holster, waist belt holster, or any other holster (ankle holster, crotch holster, fanny pack holster, pocket holster, ect) and also a hipgrip or any other similar securing device (a hipgrip is a type of grip that has a clip sticking out to hook on to your belt or pants, a similar device to the hipgrip is a clip) at which point the weapon MAY BE concealed by the person's clothing, or handbag, purse, briefcase, or any other close container. (Concealed carry is an option but is NOT required to carry a firearm. Firearms can be openly carried. However if you are concealing, the firearm MUST be carried in a holster, clip or similar type of securing device) - OS
  9. He doesn't have pictures of BigFoot or black panthers, either, I'd imagine. Besides a flair for embellishing, does he maybe have a still out back, too? Yeah, and it's convinced me: groundhogs are killers, I don't know how I lived in the country all those years and survived. Best to kill them all; or even better, just wing them and torture for intel on location of the rest of the assassin horde. - OS
  10. DUI is specified in the statutes. "under the influence" while carrying is not. Like many things, up to the arresting LEO and later, the judge. Maybe you get a BAC test, maybe not. - OS
  11. Why did you give your post the thumbs-down icon? You hate Georgia or something? - OS
  12. No, not exactly. Only law re drinking/carrying before the restaurant change is 39-17-1321. Possession of handgun while under influence "Notwithstanding whether a person has a permit issued pursuant to § 39-17-1315 or § 39-17-1351, it is an offense for a person to possess a handgun while under the influence of alcohol or any controlled substance." "under the influence" is not defined. - OS
  13. It's amazing to me that with the ever increasing hunting pressure there's actually deer in TN that make it long enough to become a trophy like that. Congrats on an increasingly rare feat! - OS
  14. The main thing Tiger is: the best golfer who ever played. He has done more, in less time, and most tellingly of all, against MUCH stronger fields than Jack, Arnie, Hogan, et al, ever dreamed of. The overall skill level in pro golf today is super higher level than in the previous legends' heydays. There's hardly a statistic in the books that Tiger hasn't already surpassed, or will, assuming he stays physically and mentally sound enough to play another 10 years or so at even 90% of his best effort. Too bad he's maybe not nearly as personally NICE as Jack, but give a devil his due. And don't discount all the charity bucks he raises. Matter of fact, you can credit Tiger with a sharp upswing in ALL charity money from the Tour, since purses have gone up in direct response to his participation. In that sense also, he has changed golf in a way that one man has never before. - OS
  15. Mad Groundhog Attack at Schaeffer - MORE Forums Isolated forum story, don't give it much credence myself. --------------- Animals Most Likely to Attack Pets - Paw Nation Top 10 Animals To Attack Pets 1. Snakes 2. Coyotes 3. Raccoons 4. Squirrels 5. Scorpions 6. Javelinas 7. Porcupines 8. Groundhogs 9. Skunks 10. Rats Story should have read: "Top Ten Animals to BITE Pets". Most animals will bite if THEY are attacked. ------------------ Drunk groundhog attacks woman - Boing Boing Well, dunno. Maybe he WAS drunk. -------------------- VVVVVVVVVV Language warningVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV The Confused Dildo: The Great Experiment: Farm Teeth This is so off the wall, I give it total 0. "...chase children down to maul them to death"... Right. Find any "groundhog packs" stories, too? - OS

  19. They will of course fight in the burrow, when a dog digs one out...big teeth and claws. That's how most dogs get them, that's how ours used to. They'll fight to get loose if grabbed, too of course, but only to run if they can. But they will not "attack" anything. And, as I mentioned, they don't gang up either, so there can't BE a "pack" of them. - OS
  20. I'm not calling anyone a liar here, but I must say I find that totally unbelievable. - The only "packs" of groundhogs would be a single family unit of them, and the little ones leave home long before they are the size of adults. Groundhogs do not group together beyond their family units. - My frigging cat used to chase groundhogs. They are very timid creatures, with their main defense being to run to burrow. Perhaps the neighbors don't know a groundhog from a raccoon or something. - OS
  21. Regards to that legislator you were talking to, but methinks he has not truly thought this through yet. How could they exempt all restaurants from being able to post, and yet let any OTHER business do it? This would seem to be clearly a discriminatory type issue, and I would think would generate MORE suits. - OS
  22. Pretty simple. If you want to do one session you pay $15 plus a key deposit of maybe 10 more, can't remember. Have to drop key back off after to get deposit. Or pay $30, you get key good for a year, June 30-June 30. Range is maybe 7 miles from PD. No brainer if you intend to shoot 2 times or more in that period. You'd get about 7 months for the bucks if you joined now. PD is open 24/7 btw, range open all year daylight only, except for about 2.5 weeks during hunts in Oct and Nov. -OS
  23. Again, I've set up reactive steel targets many times at 20-30 yards, steel plate at 120 yards, plastic bottles, etc. There's nothing on the rules sheet they give you against it. There is an older sign at range itself that says, among other things, "paper targets" only. I've never been shooting the steels, skeet, or plastic bottles there when an officer was around, so I don't want to blanket say it's "okay". - OS
  24. It's a rare and fortunate man who has never needed to eat any crow in his life. - OS
  25. Agree. Especially in Texas; all the cowboy mystique is for naught. - OS
