Just get a Marlin 60, there isn't too much more you can do to it once you've added a scope. You don't even have to spring for additional mags. BTW, I need to shoot that WinClean before it goes dead! - OS

Love it! The kitty raved. I also like the stock made from the rare Blue Wood Tree, found only in the remote regions within the Islets of Langerhans, I believe. - OS

There's a reason that a NICS takes 10 min but a HCP check can take 90 days (or more) and it's not ALL due to inefficiency at the DOS office. There have been several reports here of folks who were able to buy guns but had their HCP denied until they worked something out with some boo boo or other on their record, so I don't know exactly how the two checks differ but it's pretty obvious that the HCP one is more extensive. Seems things that happened at a different address or especially in a different state may not always show on NICS but will on HCP check. - OS

Well, it IS really MEAN looking...and I AM a fan of the genre. Here's my lower tech SGA-NBR (Small Game Assault Naughty Black Rifle): - OS

Right, this is by Tim Thurner. TT Gunleather. Hated to be unfaithful to David Bullard, but always wanted a model with leather belt loops integral to the design. Been wearing it daily for 3 months or so now...nothing but praise. - OS

Nope, I'm still showing up. Maybe we get to shoot a BearCat, too! - OS

One more little possible irony in all this is: When a TN HCP holder files for renewal, assuming he does it before HCP has expired, the old HCP, along with receipt for the renewal on your person also, is valid even beyond the expiration date, no matter how long it takes. You might also get a clarification on THAT little point from Ms Knight, meaning, maybe your CO CCW permit is still legit here. Sometimes though, you just don't know, you know? - OS
-
Willing to bet you're in the "renewal" file rather than the "new issue" one. A drawback of saving a few bucks, I guess, as the TN code doesn't specify a time limit on renewal. At any rate, Ms Knight will likely move things for ya, but be nice, y'know? - OS
-
Past a certain point, it's hard to pick a winner, looking at all the incredible things folks do to customize them. Was just ogling a bullpup mod yesterday online, for example. I'm impressed though, for sure! That baby has got to be in the top 10 percentile! - OS

You mean the 90 days? In 39-17-1351. Handgun carry permits Michie's Legal Resources HexHead had a good thought though, as I see TN allows CO permit holders to only pay the renewal fee also. So, did you pay $50 or $115 when you turned in paperwork to Dept. of Safety? If $50, maybe they ARE treating it as renewal, which almost ALWAYS takes longer than original application. In any regard, I certainly advise to email Ms Knight as per my previous post. - OS
-
Maybe they shouldn't offer the bazillion models they do, and concentrate just on 50 or so and improve them! - OS
-
Okay, then we got that going for us, too. - OS

Well, "a" factory is located there. Mossberg is in CT, but they had to get parts for my Plinkster from Brazil. Which they couldn't. - OS

Don't have one, but maybe I should bring my big van, back it up to table, two could shoot out of the back of it with heater going full blast! Weather for tomorrow: Snow showers. High near 40F. Winds NNW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 70%. A slushy accumulation of less than one inch. At least it's apparently not gonna rain! - OS

If the first amendment was treated like the second

Man, that is a GREAT perspective, can't believe I've never seen that before. Thanks for posting it. - OS -
Oh, I'm far from a gun snob. I have two, count 'em TWO, Hi-Point guns. I EXPECT them to need repair, and one already has. Diff is, a phone call to Ohio, and free parts were in my hand 3 days later. Didn't even ask for the serial #. I've also never heard of anyone who needed to send one in having to wait over a couple weeks or so, and they're always returned with an extra free mag or two. And never a refusal to fix them, even if gun was obviously abused, like run over by a truck or something. - OS

Very few horror stories about S&W service. MANY re Taurus, including some doozies by TGO members. - OS

Generally means you'll need it in the LIFETIME of the gun, and it might take a LIFETIME to get it repaired. (couldn't resist), - OS

Beck should sign him as co-host. - OS
-
Sure, but Beck now has plenty of wealth. His book sales alone make him a millionaire several times over. So he has "made his" and could simply duck out if he chose. I think some folks like Beck, Limbaugh, even lesser personalities like O'Reilly, Bortz, etc really may continue past a certain point because of what they believe in, rather than just for the money. I believe Lou Dobbs in in this class, too, if not the epitome of it. But power and ego also figure in, not denying that. Yeah, totally agree with that. Plus I think he has a chance of snapping and needing a rubber room - OS

As far as places that serve booze, correctamundo. - OS

To "tranfer" a GA permit, you still have to take the course. The only break you get is that you only have to pay renewal fee of $50 rather than the $115 first time fee. "Georgia Applicant must be twenty-one (21), complete a DOS approved handgun safety course, complete the Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit application, provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency, and pay the applicable renewal fee." All requirements for changing other state carry permits to TN one is at: Handgun Carry Permit Application Requirements - OS

Can you move to Washington DC with a gun
Oh Shoot replied to analog_kidd's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
If you'll do some searches, I believe you'll find that the basics of this fellow's following post to be relatively accurate. In short, to be legal, it's a mess, and your friend will have to make a hard choice on compliance with letter of the law. ---------------------- "First buy the gun while he is still resident in another state. There is no gun shop in the district and the only FFL doing transfers charges $125 per. So buy all the handguns he wants prior to moving here. If he wants a semiautomatic it cannot have a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds. He must then have the following in order to register a handgun. Proof of training including four hours classroom and one hour range; two passport quality photos, and an ID. He will need to call firearms registration when he is coming down and advise them he will be bringing a handgun. Bring the handgun in a locked container without ammo but with the magazine holding 10 rounds or fewer. He will fill out several forms, be fingerprinted, have a ballistics check on the weapon, and pay around $60. If he has more than one weapon he should be able to register all of them at the same timefor $25 for handguns and $13 for long guns (which do not reguire the ballistics check). Again, no semiauto can have a magazine with more than 10 rounds. In addition, there is a so-called assault weapons bans, so if the weopon is a tactical rifle or shotgun he will need to verify in advance that it can be registered. If there are any questions, you can PM me off line. SGt Hall at the gun control office is also vey helpful..." ----------------- Several others cite that all rules/procedures are somewhere on DC govt. site at: District of Columbia Here is the actual DC Code § 7-2501.01 which several say contain the actual laws: DCGunCase.com D.C. gun laws In short, I don't envy any of your pal's options if he wants to be legit with owning handguns there. - OS -
I see her email doesn't seem to be listed on DOS site anymore, but try emailing Lisa personally via info in first post in the following thread. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/handgun-carry-self-defense/27451-email-check-status-handgun-carry-permit-application.html#post363238 The state is "required" by TN statute to issue within 90 days, regardless of status of background checks. Include your pertinent info, ESPECIALLY that it has been over 90 days. It has been the experience of many here that once you get her individual attention, and not one of the folks who answer the phones (who may be a temp), you'll get action. - OS
