Rethinking HCP carry after San Bernadino
Oh Shoot replied to jgradyc's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
That hasn't really panned out as reliable info seems. Based on just one person saying that. Another guy who was sitting right beside him said he just left without saying anything, leaving his coat. Said he seemed sort of nervous, but who knows. - OS -
Again, at the press briefing today, the Chief said they only shot 380 rounds (total from 23 cops who fired weapons) so dunno what was said by whom previously. Here's the recap in print: http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/san-bernardino-shooting/san-bernardino-shooting-suspects-left-baby-daughter-grandma-n473261 Here's complete vid of the briefing: http://fox8.com/2015/12/03/san-bernardino-shooting-suspect-had-communicated-with-known-terrorist-suspects/ Hmm, maybe I got that part backwards. And I don't think that was in today's press conference, so may have conflated that with previous wrong info. Sorry if so. But it was my understanding that neither ever exited the vehicle, both were killed inside it, or in his case sorta inside it, he had opened the door to shoot and sort of slumped halfway out when he died? Here's a shot of the aftermath, before they took their time getting the bodies out: - OS

News keeps making much about them having this huge stash of ammo, so they suspect they might have been stockpiling it for other terrorist collaborators or something. So let's see: They had 1,400 .223 caliber rounds and 200 9-mm rounds on them/in SUV after the gunbattle. At the house they found another 2,500 .233 rounds and 2,000 more 9mm. Oh, and a "few hundred" .22LR. So, 3,900 rounds of .223 and 2,200 9mm. Total stash. And I see they had problems getting .22LR also. :) Reporter asked if that was even legal to have "that much". :) Chief told him no law against it. Guess they'd be floored just to see my stash, and I'm just a piker compared to many many here. The couple fired about 75 rounds at the murder scene. In the gun battle, seems the dame was driving and Farook was doing the shooting -- about 76 rounds at the cops, and the cops graced the SUV with 380 of them in return. - OS

A goodly number of TGOers will buy that, too. - OS

Um, no. Just you know, world history. Really, no Baptist churches back then. Not even Lutheran .. till Luther. :) But I know you to be quite, um, innovative when it comes to that sort of thing. Sort of like Ben and the pyramids. ;) - OS

I do believe a wild lynx would be bigger news than a cougar. Maybe almost as rare as a Big Foot, since their range hasn't been this far south since maybe the Ice Age? - OS

Gimmie a break. The Catholic Church took it over within 150 years and held the monopoly all the way until Martin Luther nailed them 95 Theses on the door. - OS

There was nothing but Catholicism for the first 1500 years of Christendom. Which is about the age of Islam now. So like Ford Guy mentions, they'll probably chill out, just give 'em time. ;) - OS

The only reports of three shooters were from a couple of folks in the building. Just like the reports of the Go Pros and bullet proof vests, they were apparently wrong. Hell, they also said it was three men. Also, only one person said Farook got mad at something and left, and one said he simply walked out after looking nervous for a while, so that's pretty much up in the air too. Also apparently false was the guy who said someone got out of the SUV and ran away after the gunfire started, tearing off gear and whatnot as he ran. Which all just goes to show the unreliability of eye witnesses, especially when there's shooting involved. - OS
-
As I suspected, no bullet proof vests, confirmed at latest press conference just now. Just tactical molle type vests holding mags and whatnot. That's always been the case with these reports in the media, they're always described as bullet proof, but never are. No cameras. Just something else some "witness" "saw". None found on their bodies or anywhere else they've combed through. - OS

Well, the most likely thing that will happen to any one of us in the future is that assault weapons will be banned again. Especially them Military and Police models -- hell, they're obviously deadlier than even a Bushmaster, I heard it on the news. - OS

Was claimed on one channel that there was a good bit of ill will from employees in that county structure over the last year or two due to management decisions, and a good many had quit. The talking head opined that it could have stared with just workplace resentment that also got conflated with Islamic retribution along the way, sort of a double whammy, which seems somewhat plausible. Still just pretty odd headwork on their part though, the way the whole thing played out. I mean, the duo must have known they were gonna get found out after his pulling the leaving stunt at the event. But they didn't flee the city which would suggest they weren't gonna try and get away with it, and were still in tactical gear when the cops showed up, which would indicate they had no intention of giving up. But then they flee rather than shoot it out, which would indicate they did want to get away, which they could have done earlier. If they wanted to die in blaze of "glory" could have done it right there at the original scene while racking up a higher count. But all in all, it's probably not reasonable to expect an abundance of logic on their part. - OS

On the other hand regarding "workplace violence", just confirmed by police press conference that Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, was indeed county employee for five years, was at the gathering due to his job, and was indeed the one who left reportedly mad about something. That's why they went over to the home in the first place to check him out, and that's when he and the woman split in the SUV, which triggered the chase and shootout. He's US born citizen. Woman is Tashfeen Malik, 27, apparently his squeeze, not sure if married. No info yet on whether she's US born or what. Though it still seems pert damn obvious it would have had to have been pre-planned, and not just triggered by some irk at the gathering itself. - OS

Well, 67 year old women have to obey the law, same as 67 year old Oh Shoot. Pointing a gun at someone without justification and also endangering two frigging bystanders (another woman probably likely in her sixties or more and grandchild, btw) are both chargeable offenses. I see no reason that being 67, or being a woman, or being both, is worthy of an exception. Suppose she accidentally triggered it and hit any one of the three ... should she still get special consideration because she's a 67 year old woman? What other offenses should a 67 year old woman be able to commit and walk scot free? Now, if they want to drop the charges, or reduce to a handslap for disturbing the damn peace or something, whatever. But at least she's had to go through hassle and apprehension of the process to orient her thinking on the matter -- in short, I think it's only right and proper they've treated her equally under the law so far, 'cause I think they would have done the same to me. - OS

There's no option to turn it off? Have seen people mention it in the past. - OS edit: Good, I see you found it. I wish everyone would, it's just a constant irritating distraction when reading posts.

Something to do with Tapatalk or phone OS I guess. (from which you should nuke the irritating reference, btw) - OS
