History Channel Armageddon Week
Oh Shoot replied to midtennchip's topic in Survival and Preparedness
Yeah, "After Armageddon" wasn't bad, not overly horrific but certainly grim enough to be pretty realistic IMHO. Though they use a pandemic as the impetus, there are plenty of scenarios where total monetary meltdown would be almost as quick, and I see this as the highest likelihood these days. I've also enjoyed seeing the rest of the "Life After People" episodes that I never caught, which they've been playing in between new programming last couple of days. Strangely fascinating concept to me. Dogs and dolphins are generally better than people anyway. - OS -
You're trusting your life to a ten round test? Wow. - OS

That was actually apprehension. - OS

The plastic bayonet really makes it, I'll give ya that. - OS

That puppy oughtta be right up your alley, Ron. Assuming it's as reliable as the full sized version, it oughtta be aces what with being easier to conceal and all. - OS

Not sure why so many folks do it in general. Although a thumbhole stock does indeed put a different angle for your wrist and trigger pull. Sort of like using a pistol grip, without a pistol grip hanging down below the stock. The one I have shot a little with really WAS quite comfy, felt very ergonomic. I changed stocks to the Hogue because I bought a circa 2000 stainless model that had the boat paddle stock on it. I just didn't really care for it, and it didn't have sling swivel adapter (wanted to add bipod), and way it was made I didn't feel comfy adding one. That stock was fairly desirable among collectors, so sold it on eBay for about $80 which was more than the Hogue cost. Also, the Hogue has swivel adapters on it. If the rifle had had a conventional stock, either synthetic or wood, or a thumbhole model I wouldn't have bothered to change it. Here it is: One thing's for sure, it's really "tacky" feeling - you won't lose your grip on it! Some complain that every little thing likes to stick to it, though, and it's somewhat true (dust, cloth fibers, etc). - OS

Suggestion for all you folks looking to use birdshot, mini-shells, etc instead of buckshot for home defense: Do NOT load your shotgun. Grab it firmly by the barrel with both hands and CLUB the bad guy with it. Be sure and keep a firm grip so that the gun does not fly from your hands and penetrate walls behind which crouch the loved ones you are protecting. Oh, and be sure to put birdshot in all your handguns, too. - OS

Not the stainless, maybe the "blued (actually painted). - OS

Absolutely. Their search bots will find it, flag it, and possibly nuke you. Same as the eBay engine when you list an ad. General rule of thumb re eBay/PayPal: anything that is "required" to make a gun function is verboten. That includes guns and ammo of course, but also magazines and most critical gun parts, like barrels, triggers, bolts, etc etc. The only thing required to ship ammo through UPS or FedEx is that it has to go ground, and the words: ORM-D Small Arms Ammunition are on it. These can be written with Sharpie or similar in large legible letters on one side of the box, doesn't have to be a special label. (and by the way, "small arms ammunition" includes up through .50 caliber) Rules the same for intrastate or interstate ammo shipping. No USPS period. - OS

Yeah, and lots of folks with target barrels find they can't shoot any old bulk ammo with them, either. Then again, if you're paying extra for a barrel with a precision chamber, I guess you're willing to shoot higher priced and more precisely made .22 rounds anyway; think CC Mini Mag at the least. Nosnos, if you want a precision chamber but still keep the lighter standard barrel, look on rimfirecentral.com; there are a couple of places on there they recommend that will take factory tapered barrel and rechamber it, apparently for about same price or less as buying a bulll barrel. - OS

Oh, it's polymer with spun glass fiber as part of the construction (think fiberglass), lots of guns use this type frame material. Overall, it's certainly nothing to turn the semi-auto world upside down or anything, but it looks to be a serviceable carry piece. Satisfies those who just must have a manual safety, two choice backstrap, and adjustable sight, for probably about $450 street, maybe less after a while. It won't be a killer product like the LCP, but should do okay, probably about as well as the LCR, maybe better. - OS

I have the rubber textured Houge (black) on one of mine too, I like it just fine. They also make a harder textured version, little harder to find, but some hard core 10/22 target guys say it even better - they claim the rubberized one flexes enough to affect accuracy. From my level of expertise, you couldn't prove that by me. - OS

My suggestion is to shoot the cheapest you can find, and clean the pistol. Heck, I even clean my .22's every thousand rounds or so. Maybe. - OS

Their retail sales site link shows they all ship with 30 round mags. - OS

Yeah, I never knew them to have good deals on any guns. Even their Hi-Points are higher than gun show prices... Far as these I.O. AKs, it's quickly obvious that most forum posters don't think much of them, but then again, if they actually WORK for 3 bills, then hey... There are a whopping four articles on I.O. website that of course indicate the line is pretty good... Maybe they are the Hi-Points of AK-dom, which is not a bad thing at all, except that you'll quickly find rants about the poor I.O. customer service, something quite the opposite of Hi-Point. - OS

Left-handed holster for right-handed person
Oh Shoot replied to wipfel's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Several makers recommend an opposite hand holster for small of back carry. But it needs to straight cant or cross draw cant to work. The effective and commonly used forward cant that increases concealment and accessibility would be counterproductive is implemented in a an opposite hand method. - OS -
SP101 hammerless carry holster?
Oh Shoot replied to rogue_rob's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Yep. It's the ONLY place except he sometimes sells a few of his models on eBay. - OS -
SP101 hammerless carry holster?
Oh Shoot replied to rogue_rob's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
A well made IWB holster that actually fits the gun needs no retention strap. For example, here's my Bullard Dual Carry for SP101 bobbed hammer: - OS -
Let me google that for you - OS

Which models do you mean? The Target Tactical is $555 MSRP and the SR22 is $625 MSRP. Surely neither of those can be had for 3 bills? - OS

Actually, the lowest price TI mag is less expensive than Butler Creek steel lips. But it doesn't have steel lips, while the two other models do. All three you can take apart and clean, and all three are adjustable, unlike Butler Creek. From TI site: Rimfire Rifle Mags - Tactical Innovations Inc. TI25 MACHINED ALUMINUM STEEL LIP MAGAZINE FOR RUGER 10/22: $59.99 TI25 ADVANCED COMPOSITE STEEL LIP MAGAZINE FOR RUGER 10/22: $39.99 TI25 POLYCARB ADJUSTABLE MAGAZINE FOR RUGER 10/22: $17.95 - OS

Consensus re RamLine and Eagle is: no. Not as bad as ProMag, but almost. - OS
-
There are really only 2: Tactical Innovations makes three different 25 round models, and are generally considered to be the best, as they can be adjusted for variances in each individual 10/22 rifle. Range from 20 to 60 bucks. Butler Creek steel lips are probably the most used...a widely used tip is to simply blast inside each one with spray silicone lubricant about every 1000 rounds or so. I have 4 of these and they are 99% reliable with most any .22 ammo. The cheaper "hot lips" Butler Creek models may or may not hold up nearly as well. Another increasingly popular gizmo is the TriMag, which bolts 3 factor mags together...Ruger has picked up this fellow's product and is even selling them for same price off their website (10 bucks): - OS

I like how somebody points a semi at someone, THEN, to make it really plain they are really really serious, they THEN rack the slide. - OS

Don't know of site with "ammo laws" specifically, but I assure you that hollowpoint ammo is legal in TN. Matter of fact, New Jersey is the only state I know of that has limitations on hollowpoint use. - OS
