  1.   If you want them in quantity, you can buy them from distributor cheaper, just like Wally does. And just like people who do sell them in stop n' robs and malls.   Of course, you'd leave a paper trail, and that's probably one thing these folks didn't want to do, because that wasn't really their aim.   - OS
  2.   Now more complicated than that legally, seems,  and I wonder how much John Harris might have had to do with it, even though she doesn't cite 39-17-1314, something else John thought had legs to stop it.   http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/politics/2015/12/03/barry-has-legal-questions-halting-fairgrounds-gun-shows/76722214/   - OS
  3.   Is it just me, but I don't get why "lemur" was descriptive of that task?   - OS
  4.   Thanks for that but I get they eliminated the residency period "rule" (not called for in USC, btw), but a non-immigrant visa didn't allow firearm purchase then or now.   edit: OIC what it must be, apparently he didn't buy the gun from an FFL in the first place, so I guess the rest is sort of immaterial anyway as far as this guy was concerned. Same ole, a criminal will break the law, duh.   - OS
  5.   I don't understand any of that in the least.   Only legal permanent residents may legally buy or even possess firearms under federal law. A non-immigrant visa does not qualify except in rare exceptions.   edit: read up on it a bit, and still don't get it.     - OS
  6.     Guess I've been pretty lucky, lived in same apt complex going on 19 years now, with majority of the residents on some sort of gummit assistance or other (not me, though)...worst thing that ever happened was some kids keying one of them years ago. Various stuff piled in the bed with a camper top that just pulls up with a firm jerk even if locked. Nothing super valuable showing, but there's probably 50 bucks worth of odds and ends back there visible, just not stuff much worth fencing though.   Then again, maybe that's why, less than stellar digs and my primary chariot being a '95 S10, no alarm even, but also obviously no "sound system" or stuff like that. So my AR stays behind the seat for about a year now.   Of course, knowing Mr. Murphy pretty well, my luck will probably change this very night now that I've said that.   - OS
  7.   Well, that point of view is all well and good in theory, but if you have a gun that you consistently shoot the same way and it's consistently off the mark in the same way, what's wrong with tweaking the sights to the way you shoot it?  I mean, it is your heater after all, and as long as it hits to point of aim when you shoot it, that's the idea isn't it?   - OS
  8.   Now that, SCOTUS would likely hear.   - OS
  9.   Rachel is sharp, I've always given her that. And half of what she expounds is actually spot on in my opinion. It's just that the other half is beyond the pale (compared to maybe a quarter of what some of her leading conservative competitors spout).   - OS
  10.   They would have outlawed them to begin with if they could have foreseen what custom gunsmiths could come up with to get around the statute wording.   - OS
  11. I have orginal XD Subcompact 9 and love it. It is rather chunky but carried IWB is quite comfy. Shoots as accurately as my XD Service, too. It's sort of voodoo how it holds 13+1. Carried it IWB for good while, but admit I've been carrying a Kahr in the pocket for much longer due to having to be more discreet dressing at the Y and whatnot. But I'm thinking seriously about going back to it on non-Y days, I sure miss the comforting thought of the extra rounds, plus can tote a 16 round backup. I guess the new version is nice, but the original Service and Subbie are a steal at ~$400 for the Essentials version that just has two mags with it. Here's the promo, 2 more mags, carrier, and dual pistol range bag for any Springfield pistol bought by Dec. 31st. https://www.springfieldpromo.com/Gearup.asp - OS
  12.   Whatever. The media calls things whatever they want.   Those states have exact definitions for "assault weapons", as did the AWB. And of course, the only reason to need to define them is so they can be banned.   - OS
  13.   Yes, because then they are no longer "assault weapons". All those states use basically the same basic definitions that were in the original federal AWB, with some additional tweaks here and there. Including certain named models period as in Kali, which I guess you can't even modify to pass muster period or whatever.   And of course just like the AWB, not limited to only the AR platform, or even rifles, as "assault pistols" are verboten too.   - OS
  14.   And the most liberal states have already banned them anyway. This doesn't change anything at all from the existing status quo.   But yeah, better to keep this in the other earlier thread.   - OS
  15.   There is no federal law to repeal to allow any firearms, except NFA ones.   Just what would a new federal law look like that would ban the states from outlawing a certain type of firearm? And how could you get it passed?   - OS
  16.   GCA, oops.   Because yes, 18 USC 921 says they are firearms, and this bill does not amend that statute. It only removes them as NFA firearms from the IRS part of code.   "The term “firearm” means (A) any weapon (including a starter gun) which will or is designed to or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive; ( B ) the frame or receiver of any such weapon; ( C ) any firearm muffler or firearm silencer; or (D) any destructive device. Such term does not include an antique firearm."   It is seen as a better chance to get passed,  a sop to the namby pambies, at least keeping these "Al Capone hitman" type devices under control by having to do a background check same as other firearms. Much as TN does with the parts of the law to assuage the hand wringers with most every new part of firearm freedom it enacts.   Until universal background checks are enacted though, in most states you could sell them in personal sales, just like any other GCA firearm.   - OS
  17.   It takes two criminals to knowingly transfer a gun to a prohibited person now. If universal background check becomes the law, would still take two criminals, only diff is that the seller becomes a criminal transferring a firearm to anyone.   Logically, universal background checks would indeed lessen the ease and increase the price for prohibited persons to acquire firearms. Because law abiding sellers, which includes most of us, would quit selling them in personal transactions.   I've said it many times -- while there isn't a "gun show loophole" per se, if I'm a prohibited person, that's the first place I'd go to score some, simply because of the selection all in one place from personal sales.   Whether it would actually reduce overall crime committed with illegally obtained firearms is a tangential but really separate issue.   - OS
  18.   CA, CT, NJ, MA, and NY already ban assault weapons.   - OS
  19.   Well, the act simply removes them as NFA, no difference mentioned between those already registered, so existing ones would simply become GSA GCA firearms I reckon.   But no rebate. ;)   - OS
  20.   I bit thrice, but it just didn't hook me, didn't even think about watching it tonight, so I'm out.   - OS
  21. Meh, I split the diff, keep a basic 10.5" AR pistol behind the seat.. It's bout as accurate as a rifle up to 100 yards, and with ~ 2700 fps soft points in there should be plenty effective. Plus I get 20-30 quick tries. :) Only got about five bills in it, but it's plenty reliable ... sure, would hurt to lose it, but the comfort it gives me being there is worth the risk. And should circumstances ever require it, can even tote it around on my person: - OS
  22.   Yeah, his youth and good looks will contrast nicely against the old bag,  also likely to draw the Hispanic vote, stuff like that. Also, my mother likes him. :)   - OS
  23.   Oh, I heard him say it myself on a radio interview less than two years ago, but can find no reference to it, which is kind of amazing since other candidates would want to use that against him.   Realistically though, it matters less what any of these folks actually believe than what they'll actually do, and he'd likely be as resistant to more restrictive federal firearms laws as any of the others if elected. Which of course seems to be non sequitur anyway, so whole thing is moot anyway.   Yep, I contend Rubio is the only one in the bunch that has a chance of beating Hillary. For various reasons, but not the least of which have nothing to do with his policies or competence.   - OS
  24.   See my edit above -- I can't find any documentation that he ever said that, which is kind of amazing really.   - OS
  25.   What has he done in that area? The only gun related thing I know of before this was that he also vetoed a bill that banned .50BMG. He also did an exectutive order making it easier for (admittedly, the few) folks who "qualify" for carry permits to get them.   Not that he could get any repealed if he wanted to anyway, but I know of no new ones enacted under his terms?   To my knowledge the most grievous thing he has done regarding firearms issues is to say that NJ gun laws are "about right". Oddly though, that quote which I heard with my own ears on a radio interview doesn't seem to appear anywhere.   - OS
