Unless you're seeing the stainless one, the higher one you're seeing is probably the "cowboy" model, has octagon barrel, barrel plug instead of band. The blueing on both 1894c's is described as "deeply blued" so I dunno about that, but the stocks are both American walnut, and both have the shiny "Mar-Shield" finish, sort of a urethane look. The cheaper 336's (A and W) probably do have lesser care of bluing, as they are not described as "deeply blued" like the 336C. The "plastic looking stock" on the A,W is wood, birch instead of walnut, but all current 336's have the "Mar-Shield" finish regardless of wood type. - OS

My understanding also, another reason I question the report of Haslam's claim that the ordinance had been "changed". I watched all the City Council debate on the park carry thing, and the law director's take was also that the ordinance could not be modified, it either stood as is or had to be repealed to let the state statute take effect. Apologies for my lack of tact with "Clarification" is unfortunately wrong" comment. Nonetheless, the ordinance is what it is. To my knowledge, no one has yet been charged under it, at least since the state modified its park statute. Remember the two weirdos that were arrested on the bike trail last summer? Can't remember the exact circumstances, both were armed, one had discharged his handgun, and only one of the two had a HCP, something like that. At any rate, they were both charged with something or other, but I don't recall that "possession in a city park" was one of them. Again, mea culpa for such a blunt statement, xreedx. - OS

Yeah, I had discussed this what seems to be the most gun knowledgeable Wally's in Knoxville, the Clinton Hwy. store. You have to pay for it upfront. Manager fellow there said that a 1894 in .357 or .45 might take 3 months, a year, or however long, no way to know. Said you can get your money back after a certain time period if it hasn't come, don't remember what that span was. So I didn't do it, but that WAS the store I eventually found mine at. The gal there at the time, who actually did know something about guns and was a shooter, said she didn't know off hand, but her guess was that this gun had been ordered by someone in the past who had given up on it and she did know it had only come in a day or two previous. And only the one. No way to verify the veracity of all the above, but unlike most stores, these two folks did seem to know their stuff. You'll often see a .44 mag at Wally's, and of course the very common 336 in .30-30, almost always the W model. - OS edit: btw, they have been making the 1894C in stainless now, and apparently this is even MORE difficult to get except maybe online. I don't know what you call "criminal charges", but the Knoxville ordinance violation IS a misdemeanor, and also carries the possibility of 30 days jail time: --------------- "Sec. 20-53. - Penalty for violation of article. (carrying in a Knoxville park): Any person who is found to have violated this article may be punished as provided in section 1-9. Sec. 1-9. - General penalty; continuing violations. It'll do ya well at any distance, trick is deciding what distance to zero it. Got mine set at 50 yards right now, does very well, even though the stock 10/22s are not tackdrivers. At 100-120 yards, drop is 5-9 inches, depending on ammo, and for the most part I can use the bottom of the vertical crosshair, where it first fattens up, to hit 9" plate while leaving the zero at 50. This with just cheapo bulk. Or you can zero it at a longer distance and just learn how much hold under to do at shorter differences. All kinds of methods, just depends on distance at which you want to be the most precise with the mighty .22LR, or say, distance you will likely see the most squirrels if that's what you're after. - OS

Here I be. Shot it some this very day as a matter of fact. Love it. Hey, come to think of it, you've shot it too, C.A.S. Took a year to find one locally, finally walked into the right Wallys on the right day. Only glitch was it shot a little high with rear all the way down, had Gander Mtn. put a taller front sight on (free, warranty). The Blackhawk is a good match, too, so you'll probably have to get a cowboy revolver to keep it company. - OS

I have no bones to pick with Crossbreed or Comp-Tac. They both offer super functional designs and are among the most popular sellers for good reason. And I'm not a total Kydex snob or anything, I do use one for my Kahr when I pocket carry it, and it's hard to beat a Kydex pocket hoster in general, a place where thinner is better. - OS

Don't forget the reduced size. Whole primary reason for the PM series. Doesn't seem like all that much between the CW and PM, till you try each one in pocket. - OS
