  1. Note that since the AT is "owned" by the NPS, I guess you can now carry in at least 8 of the 14 states it runs through, with a TN HCP (plus, I guess Maine, which seems to allow open carry). Maybe more, if some states have an "incident to hunting, camping, hiking, ..." type provision like TN does. You'd have to research each state's firearm laws. The trail isn't necessarily "unsafe", considering the number of hikers that traverse it each year, but there have been any number of crimes committed on hikers through the years on the AT, including 9 homicides since the 70's. Obviously the higher risk areas are where the trail crosses roads near towns. - OS

    Marlin 1894C

Yeah, many lever gun "purists" hate the safety, though I don't really get that. I mean, you don't have to use it, current models still have the half-cock position and all. I will say the safety is sort of a comfort on a lever gun to me if you need to unload the tube by racking them all out, as of course the hammer is fully cocking each rack. - OS
  3. Yeah, they had a couple (or more) unfortunate runs with probs. And, IMHO, it was much like Toyota in that they didn't acknowledge/recall them sooner, rather than fix individual probs, and has hurt their rep some in the long run. Then again, as much as I've read about Kahrs on forums, not sure if anyone was every totally sure what really caused the peening at least. Maybe just out of spec runs on barrel or slide I guess. - OS
  4. The fact that the server is too overloaded to feed you a page doesn't mean either it or your puter is broken. - OS

  6. Whatcha got against good ole Weird Al? - OS
  7. '53 Pontiac Cheftain 4 Door Sedan, gift from my grandfather, who had bought it new. Chief Pontiac lit up on the hood. Great nookie drive-in car. The last 5K miles I drove it, had rod knocking, and compression was so low I had to turn around and back up a hill near my home, couldn't quite pull it in first. This isn't actually it, but same model and color: - OS
  8. First Glance: Charles Bronson Robert Stack Charleston Heston are deceased Elmer Fudd? okay. - OS
  9. May I be so bold as to not speak for David, but just to explain again what he has said numerous times: TGO often runs at the limits of its shared server resources. "Shared" means that X number of other "domains" (web sites) run off the same "server" (computer) at the "webhost" (the company that runs the servers with gateways to the internet). At any given time, total usage of all sites on a particular server will limit speed/access to x number of users of any given, or all, sites on that server. Not only that, but the total bandwidth (maximum amount of data through the provider's gateway) is shared among all the servers run by the hosting company. Solution of course is relatively simple -- "merely" throw money at the problem to upgrade web hosting. David has explained the dilemma numerous times, which basically comes down to money in vs. money out as TGO grows, a delicate balancing act. It's way beyond "hobby level" anymore. Not to mention his own time, so I won't. - OS
  10. Horse pucky. There are potentially deadly confrontations neutralized regularly by folks drawing weapons but not firing them. I dare say that if you did a poll of LEOs, the incidence of their having drawn a weapon and NOT fired it is much higher than the incidences of actually firing it. Almost certainly the same among civilian carry permit holders, too. - OS
  11. I must be really ignorant, as I've never discovered the knack of believing something I don't believe. Surely the Big Guy would demand more than lip service, and would know if one is hedging his bet (as I suspect many a "Christian" does). Harder to instill the spirit of heaven within a person than to simply scare the hell out of him. - OS
  12. There is always a ten second interval set for searches and PMs. Even if it hasn't given you the page you requested, it's obviously receiving your request click. - OS
  13. Adam said: "..should never be pulled unless proceeded by death." Though I don't agree, I take that to mean he feels you should never pull a piece unless you use it to kill someone. - OS
  14. You're probably right right. - OS
  15. "39-17-1351 (q)(1) In the event the permit expires prior to the department's approval or issuance of notice of denial regarding the renewal application, the permit holder shall be entitled to continue to use the expired permit; provided, however, that the permit holder shall also be required to prove by displaying a receipt for the renewal application fee that the renewal application was delivered to the department prior to the expiration date of the permit." I don't think I need a law degree, or the TNDOS's opinion, to interpret that. - OS
  16. You can be detained without being charged. 48 hours I think? - OS
  17. Well, I of course get 15 sec to 1 min delays before a new page is coughed up or refreshed from time to time, depending on shared server capacity/usage. I guess one could call this "freezing/locking up". Obviously, if you can surf normally on other sites at same time (tabs, ya know), it's not your browser; OP didn't mention if that's the case. - OS
  18. You just don't believe the statute that covers this is a real law, or what? - OS
  19. Whatever, but I don't think "I feared for my life" alone is gonna cut it at the scene before you toddle on home. You're going to have a nice little detailed chat with someone - if you insist on having your lawyer with you before you talk anymore, unless you have him with you at the time, you're gonna likely be detained somewhere until he shows, and you talk. - OS

    Cobra Shadow

Guess they haven't been making them very long, didn't even know they were. I have Cobra .38 derringer, the Shadow only weighs one ounce more than my two banger. - OS
  21. I don't understand your problem. You have previous permit and receipt for renewal. Why the stress? - OS
  22. Ok, officers, I'm going home now. I'll be in touch. Y'all have a nice day. I doan thin so, Lucy. - OS
  23. Thanks...yeah, I see what you mean, wonder where the actual prohibition is spelled out in TCA, and WHY is it even in there, since it is already illegal to carry without a permit, and the penalty is the same (at least for carrying in public)? - OS
