  1.   Well, except for folks with 5 shot revolvers, like the most popular ones for carry. :)   Also, how does it guarantee that the hammer is over an empty chamber just because folks are told to put 5 in a 6 shooter?   - OS
  2.   I get all that. But my question is specific: what will be this next civil war you foresee? What are the sides?  Who are the participants on each side?   And what would kick it off, assassination hit list, states seceding again, a thousand good ole boys storming DC, military coup, or what? And what's the actual end goal?     - OS
  3.   Until he shows....   WASR 10's are double stack, and made from all new parts at the Cugjr factory, chrome lined barrel.  In the last couple of years, the incidence of shoddy workmanship like canted sights seems to have been almost entirely eliminated and Century mods on this end seem to be better also. They also now are using solid wood stocks instead of the laminated plywood ones.   The ones I see on the usual suspects' sites have gone up about a c note in a year; I'm a bit surprised there are any to be had new right now at all what with this suspension from the source and the upswing in sales overall recently.   - OS
  4.   Just trying to be accurate. Again, it's not 5 "weapons", or even 2 "weapons".    It's 2 or more handguns in all states and 2 or more certain semi-auto rifles in only 4 states -- and that only if done from same FFL, who is responsible for filing the additional form.   If there is any additional federal reporting on purchases, it's illegal secret squirrel stuff I reckon.   - OS
  5.   So let's see, you think that we'll have civil war between "the people" and The Republican National Committee? Or who? Who will "we" go after en masse with our armed citizen army?   - OS
  6.   Then all they have to do is get 2A repealed, eh? Then the rest would be a piece of cake.   - OS
  7.   AWB had been in effect for 3 years when survey done, and even before it there wasn't near the proliferation of AR/AK stuff around. The AR hadn't really become "America's gun" in a real sense yet to civilians.   But the main reason is that most crimes have always been committed with handguns, for obvious reasons.   - OS
  8.   You should know you need to wait an extra few minutes for me to edit. :)   I threw in the "street sales" and "illegal sources" too, whatever those terms actually mean, as they really aren't descriptive for the vast majority of states. I can only assume those folks paid a much higher price than necessary. :)  But those guns all come from somewhere and I doubt enough firearms are stolen to feed the demand in these underground markets nationwide.   The sampling actually did seem fair enough though I guess.   But anyway, I guess just because I would go to a gunshow to score if I were a prohibited person doesn't mean your average felon is as bright. Or at least the ones that get caught anyway.  ;)   - OS
  9.   Well, that seems like pretty good data, and I did indeed find the gummit study report too:   http://bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/fuo.pdf   'Course, data is going on 20 years old now, and we don't know a breakdown of where all these "family members and friends and street people and illegal sources" get all those guns from.   But I'llI retract my contention for lack of any more current data -- even though an anti would maintain, if you can stop even .7% and all like that ... ;)   - OS
  10.   Yep no proof. But logically, where else can a prohibited person shop with a wider selection and better prices than gun shows in the roughly 3/4 of states which still allow personal transfer? Not to mention a perhaps equal number of folks who are truly engaged in the business of selling firearms without a license. Not to mention folks on both ends of the transactions popping over the state line from their resident states.   Perhaps an "inconvenient truth" for us?   So you'd have been fine if he had just put a "likely" or "possibly" before the "represent"? ;)   - OS
  11. Well, considering that's the logical place to go shopping if you are prohibited from owning firearms, he may well be right. It's certainly where I would if I were a felon and wanted a gun or ten.   - OS
  12.   Well, it's debuting on 3,900 screens across the US, so your odds are pretty good.   I see that is actually a comparatively small number for such a big time flick, comes in at only 11th place for 2015.   - OS
  13. I wish you could buy only the dark meat half.   - OS
  14.   Well, actually, they aren't addressed at all. Lawful behavior is generally not mentioned in statutes, except as an exception to an unlawful one or to differentiate some fine point in the difference between the two.   - OS
  15.   I guess you mean Manchin-Toomey bill that was defeated in Senate? If so, I followed all that pretty closely and don't recall anything in there remotely like that? (hoping not to have to look it up and read it :))   - OS
  16. The other issue the antis keep harping about are these "internet gun sales". Manchin-Toomey had a provision in there for that also, but don't remember the details.   Meaning, what, exactly? Any internet sale from a retailer already requires that the firearm be shipped to a FFL for transfer. Anyone else is still bound by federal and state law dealing with the actual personal transfer.   Maybe means no Trading Post type component like we have here? If so, again, with what kind of possible penalty that could actually be called for beyond existing federal law, under which it is not now illegal?   - OS
  17.   Well, unless he wrote in an actual criminal charge for you and me in the EO, there's nothing to be "upheld" in that regard.   Well, as far as that goes, TN has law that no state resources will be used to enforce federal gun laws or EOs that conflict with ours, so that might not be an issue at all. - OS
  18.   A tired old internet falsehood.   - OS
  19.     Mike's point is the practical kicker. To my knowledge, there is no penalty in federal law for a private citizen ignoring a presidential order?   - OS
  20.   That's what I said. Folks' own testimony has provided it, though, was just watching an account of a case not long ago of a guy who mentioned "putting one more into him to finish him off" while perp was on the floor. I guess he was one of those "if he's in my home I can kill him period" thinking guys.   - OS
  21.   At any point, if you can be shown to no longer have had a reasonable fear of death/serious injury, the initial presumption of that can be reversed.   There was a case a few years ago here where a fellow shot some burglar and then the perp made it into another room closing the door.  The guy then shot through the door some and finally opened the door and shot him some more. Charged with murder 2 I believe, dunno that I ever heard the outcome.   Say a perp falls to his knees and puts his hands in the air, then you go right up to him and put one in his forehead. If proven, that could certainly sting you. Or worse, Monkey's scenario as actually going as far as tying the guy up first. Or even capping off a good shoot with a final close one with the powder burns and blood splatter to indicate it, whatever.   Obviously, would take some pretty clear forensics or witnesses for that sort of thing to come back on you, but it could. As Monkey said, each situation can be unique in some way.   But his main point is valid, that the "castle law" is no more carte blanche to be judge and executioner than using deadly force anywhere else,  it's only to save your life and limb while you still had a reasonable fear of losing it. And remember that the "reasonable" part ain't ultimately your call.   - OS
  22.   I'd opine that a loose interpretation on various parts of the Patriot Act can be argued to justify damn near anything.   - OS
  23.   No, federally, the only triggers (that we know of) for additional reporting are:   - 2 or more handguns within five days from same FFL (Form 3310.4) - multiples of certain semi-auto rifles in the southern border states. (Form 3310.12)   - OS
  24. nm, misread
