Wiki says: "The current unofficial speed record for through-hiking the AT was set by trail runner Andrew Thompson in 2005, at 47 days, 13 hours and 31 minutes. Thompson made the trip southbound, from late June to early August." whiteblaze.net agrees, and cites these as the top speeds: 1. Andrew Thompson: 47 days 13 hours 31 minutes (2005) 2. Pete Palmer: 48 days 20 hours 11 minutes (1999) 3. David Horton: 52 days 9 hours (1991) 4. Karl Meltzer: 54 days 21 hours 12 minutes (2008) 5. Scott Grierson: 55 days 20 hours 34 minutes (1991) 6. Jennifer Pharr Davis: 57 days 8 hours 35 minutes (2008) [women's record] These were all supported hikes (think "runs"), Also found on WhiteBlaze, apparently record for unsupported is: 60.5 days, by Ward Leonard There is no "official" record, as there is no official AT "body", beyond the NPS, but these times have all been well verified by hiking clubs, support teams, and the like. Also, the exact length of the trail has not always remained the same, either. The club network is quite extensive, as a matter of fact, the clubs pretty much maintain the trail, rather than the NPS. I was acquainted with a fellow who reportedly had the unsupported record, twice, back in the late 60's, I believe it was in the 75 day range back then. - OS

Mayor dispels rumor about Belle Meade gun ban
Oh Shoot replied to TNTitan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Actually, re-reading this, it's essentially the same thing as state statue anyway, except looks like it would be illegal to carry even a 1" blade, or any of several other kinds of blades of any length, none of which is specified in state statute. Surely THAT'S no kosher under state preemption? Again, Knoxville said the were told they could NOT modify their old city ordinance, could only leave it as is, or repeal it. And even so, some of these bans are beyond state statutes. - OS -
Oh wow, reading up, yeah, looks like all 835 variants are overbored. Overbored barrels are definitely a no slug caveat. That might make a difference in your choice, Longshot1? - OS

Correct. - OS

Wow, me either, that IS rare. - OS

Mayor dispels rumor about Belle Meade gun ban
Oh Shoot replied to TNTitan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Knoxville City Council said they were told by the AG that they could NOT modify their old no carry in parks ordinance. It had to either stand as is or be repealed. They let it stand as is. Further, I don't see how Belle Meade can make a NEW ordinance against carrying an unloaded weapon, since that IS allowed by state law, and state law would preempt that, no? - OS -
Record is less than 48 days with supply support. Around 60 non-supported I think. - OS

I shot a guy's brand new Mossy 500 just this very day, just two rounds of standard Remington 2 3/4" slugs. Oddly, it felt like it kicked more than my 870, but has been maybe 6 months since I've shot any shotgun, so maybe my imagination. - OS

'Slaughter Solution' to Circumvent the Constitution
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
16 years is an aeon ago, compared to the accelerated speed of the population/resources/policy bubble popping in our society. It's like computer chip year comparison, political paleontology. That's one of the problems, the two party system is too slow to respond to societal problems, even in the rare instances when it is actually forced to consider the good of The Republic over its own interests of power - the tanker has run aground long before the rudder is changed. And the original course was never set logically, for the good of the vessel, only as a temporary bearing with the real interest being who's at the helm. The only differences now are in method - the effect on overall health of the Republic is indistinguishable. To belabor the metaphor, the Ship of State founders upon the rocks, while the pols plunder the hold. - OS -
Correct, of course. - OS

Remington/Mossberg. Can't go wrong. By all reports, you can even go cheaper with Mossberg's Maverick line and not go wrong. - OS ps: Now I know where Trigonia is.

'Slaughter Solution' to Circumvent the Constitution
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It's totally unrealistic to think that GOP gains, even total GOP majority, is going to make a whit of difference in quality of life in this country from here on. The corruption embedded by our two party system has become such tyranny that neither is any better than the other - indeed, they NEED each other, and have for many many years. And they count on the constantly evolving them/us battle, one being merely the current primary custodian of the corruption and the other the place holder for the future and equally corrupt custodianship. An outsider observation I've become fond of quoting because it is so succinct and accurate: "The Soviet Union had a single, entrenched, systemically corrupt political party, which held a monopoly on power. The U.S. has two entrenched, systemically corrupt political parties, whose positions are often indistinguishable, and which together hold a monopoly on power. In either case, there is, or was, a single governing elite, but in the United States it organized itself into opposing teams to make its stranglehold on power seem more sportsmanlike." Yeah, they are formed by length, but you CAN put longer gun down through there without too much resistance. I can use my XD Service in the Dual Carry. I also have a BodyGuard OWB for the SC, same thing, the Service goes down through there okay. But it's not optimum, as presents a little resistance on draw. - OS

Time limit on carry class certificate?
Oh Shoot replied to First Strike's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Obviously it must be six months, but dang if I can find that anywhere in the statute. - OS -
Sorry, but you sound like Spartacus. If you can't exercise a right, it doesn't exist. In TN, have the right to own and carry a weapon on your own property. Some states don't even allow that. You pay TN for the special privilege to carry a loaded weapon off your property. To some places. - OS

?? There's a whole series: -
It's laughable if any of you believe that ANY Rep or Dem would actually support term limits. If they did, they wouldn't have the party's support, since the party is all about keeping power, and the way to keep power is to keep the party's members in place for as long as possible. They know it's a helluva lot easier to get a man REelected than elected in the first place. - OS

"Good Gunshops in Knoxville" I thought this was a joke thread, like the world's shortest books: "French War Victories" "The Code of Ethics for Lawyers" "The Amish Phone Book" "Vacations in Detroit" and the like. - OS

I keep my XD SC9 under mattress at head of bed every night, but hope I have time to get to this: Laser on XD SC? Whatever. I'd suggest just a little more point and shoot practice at household distances, myself. - OS

You might try putting the clips on the outside of the slots in the "tuck" position. I wound up wearing mine that way all the time, lets the holster "wings" wrap around your waist nicely. Also, I put the forward clip in top hole and back clip in bottom hole to maximize cant. I see you got the optional belt loops. I tried them myself, but found them too bulky, what with the necessary vertical additional leather attachment. Happy carrying! - OS

MK9 is quite heavy for pocket, 27 oz w/ 6+1 in there, my XD SC9 weighs exactly 2 lbs with 13+1, so you're only saving 5 oz for a lot less capacity. But unlike the XD, it does FIT the pocket nicely if you can abide the weight. - OS
