Where does the stereotype come from?
Oh Shoot replied to -boatman-'s topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Well, at least they didn't charge him with carrying in a posted area. It's my understanding that all of Beale St. is legally? posted. - OS -
I already posted that BATF is wrong in their FAQ about notification. Law says that notification only required if sending to UNLICENSED recipient AND it is an INTERSTATE shipment. But I do apologize, since my sweeping statement was also wrong, but for purposes under this thread, most all shipments WOULD be to an unlicensed individual, but would NOT be INTERSTATE shipments. So, in short, no notification needed as to contents of package. "922... (e) It shall be unlawful for any person knowingly to deliver or cause to be delivered to any common or contract carrier for transportation or shipment in interstate or foreign commerce, to persons other than licensed importers, licensed manufacturers, licensed dealers, or licensed collectors, any package or other container in which there is any firearm or ammunition without written notice to the carrier that such firearm or ammunition is being transported or shipped;" I had actually forgotten WHY the BATF FAQ is wrong, since I've only sent guns to FFLs in the past. Also, though, note that the law specifies WRITTEN notice. Mea culpa for any wrong info...I'll modify my previous post too, just to be factual. - OS

Yow! (guess I won't post a pic link) - OS

It might not be enough. I've got a case (we think) of both anterior and posterior blepharitis, and it's probably from seeing pictures just like these. The drops cost $85 AFTER $45 insurance discount! - OS

They'll jerk around an individual more than a company, but they'll eventually pay off, but you do have to persevere. Most folks blow it because they (as receiver) try to make a claim, and only the sender can. You have to put pressure on the sender, like rescind credit card payment if the shipper doesn't jump on things, or send you replacement while they jack with UPS/FedEx. This, of course, makes it difficult if you've already paid for a gun, say, with Money Order and the sender drags his heels. Or, as mentioned, if the sender used a non-approved method of sending it (like hand gun in ground shipment), likely nukes any payoff, since you didn't adhere to the shipper's stated policy. - OS

It is unlikely EVER to be pain free if you notify ANY of the carriers. Which even though BATF says you must in their FAQ, according to federal law, you do NOT, except to unlicensed recipients in interstate shipments. So admittedly, for purposes under discussion here, most shipments WOULD be to unlicensed individuals but would also be intrastate shipments, and hence it is not necessary to inform. Federal law does not require handguns to be sent overnight, either. Again, though, if you don't follow UPS/FedEx policy and need to file a claim, you're probably toast on that, otherwise a no tell policy on your part will work fine, and is not against federal law. - OS

M82 is 12 million light years away, so even at 4x the speed of light, it's going to be a very slow conversation. - OS

Quite the opposite. Map shows states that allow open carry WITHOUT a permit. Looks like just the "gold star" open carry states, where is preempted by state law. - OS

I don't know what the above is meant to convey, but twice you plainly advocated shipping ammo through US Postal Service, simple as that, and thus my simple repeated replies. - OS

You require creedence [sic] to laugh? - OS

To be exempt from carry, 'Nooga city/county parks must be posted with the exact sign requirements of the statute. The website notice you posted, or indeed, even exactly the same on a sign at the park entrances, would NOT qualify. - OS

Dude. UPS is not "the post office" as you've been saying. UPS = United Parcel Service USPS - United States Postal Service You can ship ammo UPS or FedEx ground. No ammo USPS at all. - OS

Last line: "Open carriers ... have pretty much the same body type." Pretty funny, I thought. Wonder if a real survey would reveal that most open carriers are indeed, umm, waistband challenged? - OS

Nope. These items can never be mailed in any quantity: · Alcoholic beverages · Ammunition · Drug paraphernalia · Fireworks and other explosives - OS

No no no. No live ammo through USPS. None. At all. Ever. - OS

Special Army Unit to deploy is US

Well, Strick, the source is impeccable, Some Guy Named Anthony G. Martin Somewhere in South Carolina. - OS -
Handguns are the problem. Can't use USPS. If you play by UPS or FedEX rules, have to do overnight and has to go to licensed recipient; if you don't inform them and send another way, good luck on collecting any insurance claim if it's "lost". - OS

Yep. I said much the same, so far. If the Tea Party is to change anything, they'll have to run their own candidates, or at least maybe support Libertarian Party ones. Some folks here say that the Tea Party can "transform" the GOP. Hah. The GOP will only dilute and corrupt; it will not be fundamentally changed. - OS

Leave loaded gun in car while at work?
Oh Shoot replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Oh, okay, I see. That's TN's take on metal piercing and "cop killer" bullets. An additional charge if used in a handgun crime. The "infamous" Black Talon bullets have a polymer coating of some kind.I didn't know this was still on the books somewhere. It's not in the weapons statutes, though, so not sure where it is tucked, because it's not in any of the statutes mentioned as far as I can see: "(SOURCES: Tennessee Code § 39-11-106, §§ 39-17-1301 to 39-17-1323, § 39 17-1351, § 39-17 1357, § 39-17-1359, § 62-35-118, § 70-4-123)" I suspect it may even have been repealed, but don't know for sure. Notice that none of this is definition of a hollowpoint bullet. Note also, that you may fire any type bullet for practice, or even to defend your life, but probably best not to be using an armor piercing one to do it with. - OS -

You must have misread. Certainly, your description of "no hollow point or any plastic in the tip when one is in a criminal act" makes no sense. It's a law that you must remove hollowpoints before you stick up a gas station? At any rate, New Jersey is the only state I know of that has an restrictions on hollow point ammo. There may be more, but TN is not one of them. - OS -
Well, I personally just don't see any particular self defense demand for shooting 9mm, .380, and .45ACP in a revolver in the first place. There are already plenty of guns that shoot those rounds in about the same physical size weapon, AND they almost all have greater capacity than a revolver. I bought the Blackhawk .357mag/9mm mainly as a companion piece to my .357 Marlin rifle, and got the convertible model just as a possible TEOTWAWKI enhancement, to double up on caliber capability. But it had nothing to do with self defense in the normal day to day sense. - OS
