  1. Everywhere I go, every interview I do, I basically say, 'If you're not a member of the NRA you're helping the enemy, which makes you the enemy.' Now, a lot of gentle souls across the land have their feelings hurt when I say that. but it's time to hurt some feelings because that statement is accurate. The top of the cultre war spear is our Right to Keep and Bear Arms." - Ted Nugent, interview w/ NRA ILA's Chris Cox, in May American Rifleman

    Is it illegal?

Good Lord, we had argument over nothing, now an argument over something. Read the statutes. The CHARGE is 39-17-1307. Unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon. — The DEFENSE is 39-17-1308. Defenses to unlawful possession or carrying of a weapon. — The impact weapon certification IS a defense to unlawful CARRYING of a club/baton, just as an HCP is a defense to unlawful CARRYING of a handgun. The possible max penalty for carrying either is Class A misdemeanor. The HCP or baton certification negates that penalty. In that sense, they have the same "weight", if you will, that being, keeping you out of jail for carrying your weapon of choice. Of course, you can still be charged with murder for using either one. - OS

  4. I have HEARD a rendition of that joke before, on TV, from some (almost certainly Jewish) comic. Jews have a historically self-deprecating humor that touts their own tendencies of business/thrift among other things. - OS
  5. Mike that's just not right. white gas = Coleman fuel is truer statement. But "white gas" is not at all the same as unleaded gasoline. Both "white gas" and Coleman fuel are basically naphtha, have octane of about 50, none of the additives in unleaded gas, which are many, even the increasingly rare type supplied without ethanol. Much lighter than gasoline, produces much more heat per volume of combustion, etc. Yep, I'll leave the rest to Mark, he seems to be pretty much the Coleman Dude. edit: meant to add, that when unleaded gas first started appearing (early 70's?), it was common to call it "white gas", and that inaccurate terminology has continued to some extent. But it's not at all the same. Matter of fact, when I was a kid, we'd get true white gas for stoves and lanterns from a store near the lake where I grew up. It was in a separate pump off to one side, next to the kerosene one, that you hand pumped into your container. Although we mainly used Coleman kerosene pressure lanterns for our night fishing, as they put out more light. You'd use wood alcohol, if you had it, though, to prime the generator. Lighter fluid would work, just not as well. - OS
  6. Well, depends on the stove vintage. Many of the ones now allow either. Those designed only for Coleman fuel/"white gas" will trash the generator, eat the pump and tank, etc. I'm sure Mark@Sea can probably fill in the finer points. - OS
  7. Quite a different makeup for combustion purposes, though. I'm sure no diff as far as using as a solvent. - OS

Who said they were? You can't carry a baton with an HCP only. You can't carry a handgun with a baton cert only. However, the charge is the same for carrying either one, is all I'm saying -- so they're certainly of equal weight as for as preventing you doing possible 11/29 in the hoosegow. I wish there were a certification to carry a knife over 4". - OS
  10. Who cares. The simple fact remains, that if there weren't a labor market for illegal aliens, they wouldn't be here. Sure, there would be some pure criminals, but the vast influx we have simply would not be in place if they couldn't get jobs. I also truly believe that, beyond the burden of mostly free emergency room visits, the amount of welfare illegal aliens receive is vastly overstated by some factions. And of course deadbeat citizens put the majority of pressure on emergency room visits. However, whatever welfare that illegals (or their now legal children in many cases) do receive and however much pressure they put on other social services would not be an issue if they hadn't been lured over the border by the likelihood of employment to begin with. - OS

Well, both exactly comply as defenses to exactly the same charge which stipulates the same penalty, so certainly they are of equal weight in that sense. (club/baton certification). Ah, interesting, I was misinformed, thanks. - OS
  13. No need to check laws if you are traveling THROUGH a state, including PA. Federal law specifically allows you to transport any legally owned firearm from one place where it's legal to posses to any other destination where it is legally possessed. I'm surprised PA is that strict about toting handguns around for residents. It must get tricky for hunters, since handguns are legal for some of your game, and yet according to your post, they can't transport. Surely every hunter in your state doesn't have a license to carry. - OS

  18. Well, I dunno... I was lucky to live through my first week with one at 20. Just because I could ride it "well" didn't mean I could ride it sanely. 'Course you had to be a little nuts to even get on them Kawasaki two-stroke triples, in retrospect. - OS

  22. I agree he's out of the loop on the "far right" take, and mostly on the "unregulated" and "unchecked" capitalism, but I dunno, he's got some of it right: "He curtly dismisses our two-party system as a mirage orchestrated by the corporate state, " Couldn't agree more. More precisely, I think it's proper to define the US Government AS the "corporate state". It's become a huge conglomerate, the largest single employer with over 2 million employees (not even counting the Post Office), with the largest budget, supplied by roughly 240 million stockholders and unsustainable loans, operating at an enormous loss. But "mirage" nails the perception that we really have a two party system. "...excoriates the liberal intelligentsia for being fops and courtiers and describes the drivel of the commercial media as a form of “brainwashing.†Surely you don't disagree with that? - OS
