  1. My guess is you'll still be singing that tune in 2022, after 8 years of GOP reign due to current backlash, and the first 2 years of the next Democrat majority elected in backlash of that. Same ole. The overall game doesn't change, the house always wins. - OS
  2. Perhaps a technicality, but parks have to be exactly posted correctly, verbatim wording as per the statute, even minimum size mandated. So if it isn't, well.... - OS
  3. Well, looking at Knoxville City Code: Municode - Search there is the same bizarre statute that Kwik used at Belle Meade: Specific reference: reference: ARTICLE IV. - OFFENSES AGAINST PUBLIC SAFETY "Any person who shall carry in any manner whatever, with the intent to go armed, any razor, dirk, bowie knife or other knife of like form, shape or size, sword cane, icepick, slingshot, blackjack, brass knuckles, Spanish stiletto, or fountain pen pistol or gun, or like instrument containing a firing pin and capable of shooting tear gas or pistol cartridges, or any pistol or revolver of any kind whatever, except an Army or Navy pistol which shall be carried openly in the hand, or any other dangerous weapon, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor." Obviously, this statute is ignored, at least as far as HCP pistol carry. Anybody want to try the Army/Navy pistol thing? "dirk, bowie knife or other knife of like form, shape or size" could cover damn near anything. "any other dangerous weapon" of course, would include EVERYthing. Also, to support your statement, which admittedly I originally scoffed at, there is this about SELLING: specific reference: ARTICLE IV. - OFFENSES AGAINST PUBLIC SAFETY "It shall be unlawful for any person to sell or offer to sell, or to display for the purpose of selling or giving away or otherwise disposing of any dirk, bowie knife or other knife of like form, shape or size, sword cane, slingshot, blackjack, brass knuckles, or Spanish stiletto within the city." Which of course is completely ignored, at least by resident merchants, or those at gun shows. So I can see where some vendors might not want to ship certain knives. Although how they define which ones must be really nuts. I was REALLY surprised to find the same Belle Meade ordinance in the Knoxville city code. I couldn't find anything re weapons of any kind in the Knox County Code. - OS
  4. The way it works in with the money and strings in America anymore, by the time one has a chance to win, he is unfit to hold the office. Most any front runner is smart -- about winning an office. But few show much wisdom after they get there. - OS
  5. Only one side sharpened. A design drawback actually, IMO. Probably any number of states where double edge is no no, though. - OS
  6. Only one side sharpened. A design drawback actually, IMO. - OS
  7. Only when fully loaded. Push up on bottom of mag and hold, before pushing mag release if you want to drop a full one. - OS
  8. Helluva solid gun, you'll never regret owning a SP101. I'd EDC mine, but just feel more comfy with more rounds. - OS
  9. Urban Pal goes in your closed fist, with just blade sticking out tween second and third knuckle, You strike and slash with it from closed fist. Back of handle abuts to lower part of palm. It's quite secure and does a real number, far beyond its length would suggest. See video at: Urban Pal : Utility Knives (Fixed Blade) - OS
  10. Sometimes, of course, TGO just crawls, period. Like late afternoon and now .. 1-5 min pauses before link coughs up. Ping and tracert both go through fine and quick. Just server overloaded I reckon, as often happens. - OS
  11. double post..site crawling Oh well might as well mention: 90% of all the copperheads killed in TN, weren't copperheads. 99.9% of cottonmouth moccasins killed in TN, weren't cottonmouths. And 100% of coral snakes killed in TN, weren't coral snakes. - OS
  12. It's a lot quicker to just step back out of the way. - OS

  14. Any IWB holster that has attachment point at the already thickest part of the rig is much less than optimal, IMNSHO. - OS
  15. Next to last, anyway. - OS
  16. It's not like Jimmy wrote it, ya know. - OS
  17. And even though times are tough, I don't think you want to settle for a "descent" job - unless you're interested in coal mining. Seriously, though, wishing you all the luck in the world. - OS
  18. "They" who? Just the lost work wages from fishing/processing already accrued is staggering. BP CEO admitted that they don't really know how much oil is cranking out of that thing. I'm sure than BP, Transocean, and Halliburton combined will never cough up a fraction of the actual damages that will result. The initial attempt of all three passing the buck around today is of course business as usual. The BP mouthpiece in Congress today answered direct questions about 5 times that they will pay "all legitimate claims". Watch BP's 10 year battle in court over that word. BP's now TWO attempts to get cleanup hirees to sign a no sue waiver, and the same for the injured they took off the rig (some of them didn't even get on shore till 40 hours AFTER the accident) is another telling indicator of how they will fight this tooth and nail, regardless of the make nice talking heads now. Well, it's over a much larger area than Prince William, and of course have so far been quite lucky that it's not totally engulfing shore yet. Course, we only see the TOP of the the main slick, which was compared to size of Puerto Rico 10 days ago, so there's sure not much living in THAT area of the gulf now. Also, it's a lighter grade than what came out of the Valdez, which is sort of good and bad news. Knock on wood, haven't even had a good sized tropical storm there since this happened, but of course .... - OS
  19. I don't much care any more. Seems the only advantage to the whole thing might be in a worse case scenario of paying $500 for a Class B misdemeanor rather than facing Class A 'meanor. That is, I mean, IF someone packing should just happened to take his mom to a booze infested restaurant this Mother's Day as opposed to carrying past the no gun sticker they'll have up for the next one. - OS
  20. I wouldn't worry about that as much as the shape of the OWB holster. As I'm sure you know, Packin', the best IWB models have the belt clips or loops off the body of the main holster on additional leather panels, or "flaps". Also, the angle and depth of how it will ride will matter. At any rate, if you want to make precise and easy holes in leather, borrow one of those rotating wheel punches somewhere: - OS
  21. I keep one on my keychain, as possible last ditch effort. - OS

    Glock 23 rtf2

Is that what we call Generation 4? I held a Glock 19 the other day, had 3 letters after the name on the store label, and couldn't make my fingers work in the finger grooves, and I don't have huge hands or anything. I've held no finger grooved 19's, and they felt fine. Since that's the Glock I would buy if I ever buy one, I guess there will be no Glock for moi, unless it's an old one. - OS
  23. Well, you are right, but remember, what Christians call the Old Testament was compiled from 1300 BC to 2 BC, long before the Christ story (re)surfaced. But see my other post, certainly even old Hebrew law did not have a worldwide influence, and many cultures predated it altogether. - OS
  24. Rule by a set of laws has been a part of every significant culture, well documented since at least 3000 BC in Egypt, and seemingly as the much earlier Sumerian culture -- and certainly the majority of them are similar to the basic tenets of our own, as regarding property, theft, murder, etc. Commonality of laws well pre-dating the Hebrew Bible. Point is that almost all societies evolved similar basic laws; one might argue that they are are almost innate to the phenomenon of group dynamics, probably because they are simply the most practical way for a population to interact within itself, regardless of whether it's ruled by a parliament or dictator. It's perhaps instructive to remember that only 3 of the ten commandments are against the law in the United States. (maybe 3.25 if you count isolated Sunday "blue laws"). It's also instructive to remember that there are a bazillion reasons in the Old Testament for which Yahweh instructs us to kill the perp, and it's certainly a fine thing that 99.9% of them did NOT find their way into our laws! - OS
  25. 90 more days at current rate, whatEVER it is (or worse if they futz well head), and the gulf may be toast for many years. - OS
