  1. Big deal. HCP holders are no more than 5% of the state population and probably only half of those regularly carry, or even care enough to avoid a posted biz. Unless you want to organize specific boycotts, 2.5% of the population spread statewide will have just about zero impact. - OS
  2. Actually, you have no idea of my knowledge of the Bible, its origins and influences, and the history of how it came to be accepted in it's present form(s). It's actually more extensive than you surmise, and while it would fail in detail compared to any particular seminary instruction, it succeeds in being far less biased. While it should be obvious that I love to play devil's advocate, I did indeed cite actual references found in the Old Testament, which is in use by all Christian sects and quite consistent even among the various translations. The point was to show that U.S. law is quite removed from being based on the oft touted "Judeo-Christian" tradition, which is where this thread became focused. Rather, it is based on freedom. That "Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness" thing, fettered only by proscriptions on behavior that deny the same to others. - OS
  3. Agree. If it's not gonna be a carry gun, go with the GP. - OS
  4. We also don't know what influence might be exerted from various merchant associations, either. Or from corporate headquarters of various chains, both restaurant and general merchandise vendors. When you make something so easy to do, a certain number of merchants are simply more likely to do it. Particularly if the ban sticker is given to them with the suggestion. - OS
  5. Protestants believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God. You dare suggest that some parts of the Bible are umm, no longer relevant? Blasphemy, sir, I say, blasphemy! (cause for execution, by the way). - OS
  6. Okay, let's legislate via the Old Testament: Illegal activities (punishment/fine to be determined by legislature): Consuming blood, blood in meat is not exempt. (Genesis 9:4) Performing any work on the sabbath.(Exodus 20:10) Cooking a goat in its mothers milk.(Exodus 23:19) Eating fat.(Leviticus 3:17) The consumption of pork.(Leviticus 11:7-8) Eating a fellowship offering more than three days old.(Leviticus 19:5-8) Bestiality.(Leviticus 19:19) Planting more than one kind of seed in a field.(Leviticus 19:19) Wearing clothing woven of more than one kind of cloth.(Leviticus 19:19) Cutting the hair on the sides of your head or clipping of the edges of your beard.(Leviticus 19:27) Tattoos.(Leviticus 19:28) Consulting a psychic or spiritualist.(Leviticus 19:31) Being a psychic or spiritualist, punishable by death.(Leviticus 20:27) Touching the dead carcass of a pig.(Deuteronomy 14:8) Eating aquatic creatures lacking fins or scales.(Deuteronomy 14:9-10) Transvestism.(Deuteronomy 22:5) Consuming the meat of strangled animals.(Acts 15:28-29) For women, speaking in church.(1 Corinthians 14:34-35) Offenses that incur exile/imprisonment: A male who is not circumcised. Genesis 17:14 Eating leavened bread during the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Exodus 12:15 Manufacturing anointing oil. Exodus 30:33 Engaging in ritual animal sacrifices other than at the temple. Leviticus 17:1-9 Sexual activity with a woman who is menstruating: Leviticus 20:18 Consuming blood: This would presumably include eating rare meat and black pudding. Also see above. Leviticus 17:10. Eating peace offerings while ritually unclean: Leviticus 7:20 Waiting too long before consuming sacrifices: Leviticus 19:5-8 Going to the temple in an unclean state: Numbers 19:13 Offenses that incur the death penalty (just a few of the MANY): Worshiping idols (Ex 22:20, Lev 20:1-5, Deut 17:2-7). Blasphemy (Lev 24:14-16,23). Breaking the Sabbath (Ex 31:14, Numb 15:32-36). Practicing magic (Ex 22:18). Being a medium or spiritualist. (stoning) (Lev 20:27). Trying to convert people to another religion. (stoning) (Deut 13:1-11, 18:20). Non-priests going near the tabernacle when it is being moved. (Numb 1:51) Being a false prophet. (Deut 132:5, Deut 18:20, Zech 13:2-3) Cursing your parents (Ex 21:17, Lev 20:9). Being a stubborn and rebellious son. And being a profligate and a drunkard. (Deut 21:18-21) Adultery (Lev 20:10-12, (man and woman). Premarital sex. Applies to virgin girls who are still in their fathers' homes. (Deut 22:20-21). (many more) All sounds pretty enlightened to me. I was wrong, let's roll with these Judeo guidelines. - OS
  7. Actually, that IS possible. I couldn't close my own threads in For Sale forum, and David found it was a permission prob, so hopefully he'll see this and check. Sadly, with the new posting law just about in place, it may be more practical to start listing where we CAN carry than where we CAN'T. - OS
  8. The question was, is "butterfly knife" specifically mentioned. Since the word "butterfly" is nowhere in the statute, the answer is clearly no. Certainly, the statute description would seem to support that balisong/butterfly knives would fit the description, though, that's true. Actually, so would just ANY loosely hinged folding knife that you could flick open. - OS
  9. Far as I know it's just under this catchall statute: 70-4-102. Illegal taking, possession or destruction of wildlife — Penalty for violations. — (a) It is unlawful for any person to hunt, kill, trap, ensnare, or destroy, or to attempt to hunt, kill, trap, ensnare, or destroy, or to have in such person's possession, any form of wildlife except subject to the restrictions and by the means and devices and at the time prescribed by this title. ( Any violations of the proclamations and rules and regulations proclaimed by the wildlife resources commission are punishable as provided in this title, and the illegal taking or possession of each bird, animal or fish constitutes a separate offense. © A violation of this section is a Class B misdemeanor. [Acts 1951, ch. 115, §§ 1, 4 (Williams, §§ 5178.30, 5178.33); Acts 1961, ch. 198, § 2; Acts 1974, ch. 481, § 21; 1982, ch. 738, § 15; T.C.A. (orig. ed.), §§ 51-405, 51-412; Acts 1998, ch. 909, § 1; 2003, ch. 61, § 2.] ------ - OS
  10. "Would" not is correct. Private individuals may send to FFL as per federal law. Otherwise you could never ship a gun for repair. GunBroker's suggested FFL in 'Nooga area, just for a few for you check with: GunBroker.com - Search for FFL - OS
  11. Yep, so much better to have important legal decisions influenced by legend and magic. Purely rational thought should always be discouraged. - OS
  12. So you live up maybe near Clarksville? Kill a few of the prolific cottonmouth population up there and FedEx 'em to me on dry ice. I'll give you $50 apiece for them. - OS
  13. Yes, same snake. Agkistrodon piscivorus 3 sub species known in US. There are any number of watersnakes in TN, indeed any snake can swim if it needs to, cottonmouth very rare. - OS
  14. Regrettably, I do not. And I'm often criticized for having a negative view with no real suggestion for positive change. I find the Tea Party movement refreshing and dare I say, a slightly optimistic sign, but I see no way they can "reform" the GOP, which is what it seems it mostly seems to want to do. I actually think it would have a better chance to actually change things by becoming a party in and of itself, or maybe even more effectively, due to existing organization/communication, to ally with Libertarian or Constitution party and change IT to suit. Supporting independents has always been a losing cause, simply because of financial backing, and I see no significant change in that. I just see no way that the GOP won't dilute over time any effort to really make it as conservative as needs to be to change anything. The corruption simply runs too deep. "Absolute power corrupts absolutely" and all that. And of course the Dems, well.... My estimation is that America will continue an ongoing decline, lowering the quality of life for all but the top 10% or so, and real change will come only after the pain of a near catastrophic number of years that affects all within, including that top strata. Aren't you glad you asked? - OS
  15. Yeah, I remember your saga re this over there. Just never had looked at our city code for it before. - OS
  16. If YOU must start the blade opening by physical effort of touching blade/blade stud, you're good. Way statute reads, you'd think that a balisong (butterfly knife) or just a loose folder you could flip open by flick of wrist, would also qualify as a "switchblade", but federal law (or TN AG, or both, I disremember), AFAIK, has issued clarification where those are not "switchblades". But don't take my word for that. - OS
  17. Sorry, Mr. Bunker. I also got the 1.75" Beltman, and it's remarkably MORE "stable" than the 1.5, works great in winter, but the belt loops on the dang cargo shorts I wear all the time won't quite do 1.75. - OS
  18. No, just the double layer bullhide. It's been fine. If you didn't get my drift, belt has not shrunk, I expanded. - OS
  19. No way, Jamie. Very limited range in TN, and small density even where they can be found. Certainly about zero from midstate and eastward. Copperheads can be at just about any altitude in the state, and don't care about being anywhere near water, either. Cottonmouths depend on wetland habitat. Warm wetland habitat, not mountain streams. Copperhead range in whole US is much larger than cottonmouth, also. - OS
  20. My BeltMan has seemingly almost overnight gotten smaller. I had to loosen it a notch. I just don't understand how that could happen after wearing it for about a year and half. - OS
  21. I certainly don't like that we have an Ivy League SCOTUS, and didn't realize we did until StPatrick's post. - OS
  22. Now now. I remember you were right about something last year. - OS
  23. I still just have factory grip on mine (with wood inserts, just to be artsy-fartsy), and don't find full load .357 objectionable, just a nice solid feeling. The fireball is nifty, too. - OS
  24. While looking up knife laws in Knoxville re a thread in the knife forum, I found this, so cribbing from there. I was actually quite surprised. Knoxville has the same bizarre statute that Kwik exploited in Belle Meade: Specific reference: reference: ARTICLE IV. - OFFENSES AGAINST PUBLIC SAFETY "Any person who shall carry in any manner whatever, with the intent to go armed, any razor, dirk, bowie knife or other knife of like form, shape or size, sword cane, icepick, slingshot, blackjack, brass knuckles, Spanish stiletto, or fountain pen pistol or gun, or like instrument containing a firing pin and capable of shooting tear gas or pistol cartridges, or any pistol or revolver of any kind whatever, except an Army or Navy pistol which shall be carried openly in the hand, or any other dangerous weapon, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor." Obviously, this statute is ignored, at least as far as HCP pistol carry. Anybody want to try the Army/Navy pistol thing? However, I imagine this was enacted long before the 1986 date, so technically it could be legally binding. "dirk, bowie knife or other knife of like form, shape or size" could cover damn near anything. "any other dangerous weapon" of course, would include EVERYthing. There is also a ban on SELLING most of the above, too. Which of course, is totally ignored, both by local vendors and gun show vendors. All Knoxville City ordinances at: Municode - Search - OS
