  1. Proof? No. Found the original post where link was: Guns-in-restaurants bill advances in House | tennessean.com | The Tennessean "Although Tennessee code does not define bars, there are dozens of restaurants across the state that do not meet the minimum food service requirement. In response, establishments are paying a monthly fine to the state’s Alcoholic Beverage Commission." Perhaps just an echo, but here's another: TN bill would ban guns in bars, allow them in restaurants | tennessean.com | The Tennessean Tennessee law says all businesses that serve liquor are restaurants and must make more than 50 percent of their take from food sales. But many restaurants across the state do not meet that requirement. Those establishments pay a monthly fine to the state's Alcoholic Beverage Commission. The fine is a pittance compared with the money made serving liquor. So, maybe these are ones that simply have been paying a fine since the last rounds of audits. I have no idea. I'd say if ABC lists their accounting stats anywhere, would be only way to know for sure what they officially collect. Of course, any under the table money for NOT auditing a given restaurant wouldn't be included, eh? - OS
  2. It was stated by some state official during the last debate on the restaurant carry. Maybe during committee meetings, not sure. I'll look back and see if I can find the original thread and/or link. - OS
  3. Possessed in his HOME, not on his person? Discussing selling and owning, not carry. All the definitions I find do not mention age of the item. typical definitions of "curio": Something unusual -- perhaps worthy of collecting. A strange and interesting object which invokes curiosity. (etc) How about "ornament" and "keepsake". Neither definition hinges on the age of the item, either. - OS
  4. No. Stick with one type of ammo in a mag. It simply adds one more variable for failure to mix rounds. With extensive experimentation, the ONLY way I found to make any of my 9mm XD's jam was to shoot some aluminum cased 115 gr FMJ alternated with some 147 gr flat nosed something or other. There's just no defensive (or tacticool) advantage of adding complexity to the equation by alternating types of rounds. A quality 9mm +p JHP is your best all around defensive carry option. 124 gr +p seems to be the sweet spot. Shoot as much as you can afford of the selected ammo to ensure reliability, minimum of 100 rounds IMHO, more is better. - OS
  5. Even the ageless Mr. Shoot has finally given in to more exercise. Even though I walk 25-50 miles per week, upper bod is out of control, too big and too weak, carries all the extra 25 lbs or so I need to drop. Just went to seed in couple of years of retirement. I'm limited with crummy lower back as to what I can do, so joined the Y couple days ago. Hit the pool first time yesterday. Did 1/3 mile in 40 min. and was whipped. Last time I had easy water access, could do a painless mile in an hour or less. Wow, that's sad. Walked the 8 mile round trip to the Y, though, just to complete the punishment. Hoping if I can get the first 10 lbs off, and add a little more muscle tone down there, can add some water aerobics and later some other weight training stuff. Weight is about 225, will happily settle for a somewhat toned 200. - OS
  6. Yep. Won't need sun screen anymore down there either, just hit the water for instant even coating. Pan won't have to be greased to cook fish, either. May turn out to be a big improvement over all; guess I need to look on the bright side. - OS

    XDm in .45 ACP

About par for AR, seemed to me. They simply wouldn't publish an actual diss. 'Course, it would really be stretching to diss any XD. Really. - OS
  8. Well, I am almost giddy. - OS
  9. I can hardly even comment any more I'm so exasperated, flabbergasted, discombobulated, and just downright sick over the whole thing. The oil is bad enough but now the lies, spin, subterfuge, stonewalling ... Hell, wait and see if down the road the damn variety of dispersants alone will prove to have horrible effects, like two headed grouper ... and children. - OS
  10. If we could follow the money, we'd understand. You realize that x number of "bars" in the state pay a monthly fine for not conforming to the liquor permit rules, yes? Just like NYC paying the mafia for monthly right to do biz. Which almost certainly means that there's lots of "undocumented" fines happening, too. - OS
  11. Yep, hate to rap our own Linoge, but: "Of course, as a side effect Randy Rayburn’s stupid “No guns ever, free parking always†sign will be legally binding as of July 1, and it will be a B misdemeanor if you’re caught carrying there or any other place with the symbol." Rayburn's sign would NOT conform, not by a long shot. July 1st may be wrong. " If you ever do it again, it’ll be an A misdemeanor with 48hrs in jail and you’ll lose your permit for a year." Don't know WHERE that little tidbit of misinformation came from. Probably his source, who doesn't understand the bill he passed. - OS
  12. You really don't follow TN politics, do ya? - OS
  13. I don't guess I've ever been inside a doorless building. What's THAT about? - OS
  14. Same form letter that others got. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/tennessee-politics-legislation/40161-restaurant-carry-vetoed-4.html#post525934 And of course, it's not like HE took time to send it. Pretty much echoes letter he sent to Senate: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/tennessee-politics-legislation/40161-restaurant-carry-vetoed.html#post524989 - OS
  15. .45ACP is wider than .357. - OS
  16. They did pass the concealed carry in restaurants, but I don't know the effective date it takes effect. - OS
  17. Sure it is. Check back in 25 years, if that option still exists. I'll keep voting, just for the illusion, and the "right to beef", but I'm just mostly watching America as a dispassionate contemporary historian now. - OS
  18. Yep, same as anywhere else. - OS
  19. I do too. I don't carry a switchblade, which would be illegal, but I've got a couple of junkers at home, which is legal. "Curio, ornament, or keepsake" obviously covers it fine in the second instance. - OS
  20. Obviously the DA's and police don't echo your legal opinion, since cheap, currently made switchblades are openly sold at every gun show I've ever been to. Is there some definition of "collecting" that negates everything except of a certain vintage? More importantly, is there a LEGAL one? No. - OS
  21. You won't change the ensconced two party system. It can no longer happen. The only hope is to completely take over without either of those corrupting influences, and make drastic changes once in power, and cut the tendrils of corruption that enable what has become tacit tyranny by elite rule. Since it now takes at least a billion dollars to elect a president, I don't foresee much changing there (we really shouldn't even have the Prez elected by the people; we should end this laughable American Idol contest, but that's just a part of the whole problem.) As long as the current system of the money flow into elections and through lobbyists on Capitol Hill, and no term limits so that a pol's job can be bought, there will never again be a "for the people" rule. I keep thinking that if just ONE electable pol, like Rand Paul, would divorce himself from the existing party influence and just declare as an independent, I would have a glint of optimism. But he won't, so I don't. The "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" motif is no longer a possibility. If men like Paul must have the GOP's support to win, nothing will change. He, along with even a dozen like him, won't change the party; he'll only be diluted and corrupted, and if that isn't possible, simply neutered. At best he'll rise to be the same type "maverick" that they ran last time around. We've "thrown the bums out" for a long long time. Except for the ones we don't. Either party is happy to accept new Mr. Smiths. - OS
  22. Best to read ALL of TCA 39-17-1302: "It is an affirmative defense to prosecution under this section that ... ...The person's conduct was relative to dealing with the weapon solely as a curio, ornament or keepsake, " - OS
  23. The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but that's the way to bet. - Damon Runyan "The Soviet Union had a single, entrenched, systemically corrupt political party, which held a monopoly on power. The U.S. has two entrenched, systemically corrupt political parties, whose positions are often indistinguishable, and which together hold a monopoly on power. In either case, there is, or was, a single governing elite, but in the United States it organized itself into opposing teams to make its stranglehold on power seem more sportsmanlike." - Dmitry Orlov - OS
  24. Yep, pretty much, just sized down some for 5.56. Although I think the 6.8 version and the Mini 30 are all pretty much the same physical specs, too, with of course bore and minor bolt differences. - OS
  25. Well, that's pretty cool. I told CaveMan his weren't, 'cause he only has little black plastic sleeves in his, instead of some sort of eye catching bling. He gave me the "old fart tells ME I'm not kewl"? look. - OS
